pleasant – Nice decor, aside from the unfinished (aka exposed brick) walls. i like the uniforms.
essence of relaxed sophistication – love this new branch of the venerable bar veloce group. i have been going to the one in the east village for years, but was happy to discover this one in my own neighborhood.
nice to see a classy place branch out.
horrible – My group of four was treated as rudely as I have ever been treated in any bar or restaurant. The manager really used a two prong approach: to utterly ignore us and then to be aggressive and hostile when he deigned to speak to us. The highlight was when he belittled a woman in our group for trying to order a drink that they did not happen to carry. This was only topped when someone else asked him to recommend a wine and he said "They are all good. If you want to ask me about one in particular, you can." There was some speculation that we were actually on Punk'd and just being provoked, but I think not.
Fierce – Thank the stars above for this place. They don't put up with amateur customers who are looking for trouble, a bad time, or just to bring everyone else down. It's just negative energy and I don't blame whomever is working there to make whatever decisions necessary to deal with that trash. We had a fierce time because there was a medley of people of ALL types. It was a soothing, comfortable environment which helped our digestion. We're tired of the loud music, obnoxious customers and thoughtless menu. You won't find it here, so much to choose from. If you have a negative outlook on life, stay at home.
An intelligent wine bar that's kind to the wallet and the palate. – The Scene
This wine bar practically gleams on this slightly shabby stretch of Seventh Avenue. Its frosted-glass entrance leads into a clean, almost gallery-like space. Inside, the object of veneration is clear: Brick walls set off the perfectly stacked rows of wine bottles behind the long, unfinished wood bar. Early in the night, arty neighborhood folks join with an after-work crowd. Later, a post-dinner and date crowd trickles in to enjoy the grown-up, but not stuffy, ambience.
If reasonably priced glasses of wine served by friendly suited bartenders isn't enough of a draw, the tempting array of Italian-inspired tapas, including paninis and cheese plates, should do the trick. The prosciutto bruschetta, with fig paste, rosemary and pine nuts, offers a burst of sweetness in each bite and pairs nicely with the Lugana, a crisp white. Those looking for a more full-bodied red, should sample the Cannonau Riserva.
Warm & Elegant – This warm & elegant Italian wine bar is like a slice of Rome in the Chelsea area. Bar Veloce possesses a rare kind of energy and the knowledge that there is value in sitting still for a moment. Very interesting menu, from Italian wines to after dinner drinks, plus a selection of tantalizing cheese and cold cuts, hot pressed paninis, insalatas, and sexy desserts. Excellent service and ambiance.
Wonderful Service – Our experience at Bar Veloce was wonderful. The bartender was not arrogant, in fact, quite helpful. We wouldn't categorize him as a 'sommelier,' because that word alone sounds pretentious. We're in the restaurant industry and like to visit a place where no one knows us, so if the bartender wants obnoxious customers to leave, we really don't blame him. My friends and I were more than delighted to see 'coat hooks' to hang our purses and belongings on. And the bartender didn't "neglect" to give us toothpicks because this place just doesn't have them. There's something unappealing about toothpicks in general. We loved the food and choices of wines on the menu. Most of all, being in the company of appreciative people was rewarding.
always looking forward to stopping in when my work gets crazi. i know i'll never get hit on by obnoxious men or bartenders, i can't tell you how refreshing that is. it helps with digestion, you know? i love bar veloces wine list and fun snacks. not trying to fool you, just pure and simple... i can enjoy eating and drinking, while getting my work done at the bar. bar veloces is definitely #1 in Manhattan, I don't care what anyone else has to say, I know what's the real deal.
THANK U!!!!!!! – MY GIRLFRIENDS AND I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A PLACE LIKE THIS IN CHELSEA FOR A LONG TIME!!!! ITS REALLY BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND WE LOVED IT!!!!
Theres no other place like this in Manhattan. We didnt feel rushed when ordering off the menu, delightful selections to choose from. Our bartender and the chef was helpful and courteous-- very hard to find nowadays, so we much appreciated the professional service here. A joy to see them taking pride in what they do and in all honesty, taking their profession seriously. Handeling of products with care and a sense of cleanliness, which we found refreshing. The bar menu food was fresh, a burst of flavor with each bite. We explored the different wines from various regions of italy, which our bartender discussed with enthusiasm. Seriously, a great place to be. Cheers from all of us!
