A relaxing time--I was out! – I went to Silk Day Spa for my bday. I got the stone massage and the house facial. It was amazing! I was in a total zen place the whole time.
Not Recommended at all – I had been to Silk in February and had gotten the Eastern Indulgence. It was an amazing experience and so i returned again, with my boyfriend for a massage. When i booked the appointment, i asked for 2 massage therapist that had previously been employed at Silk Sookie and Way but both were now gone. The receptionist gave me the names of the two people that would be massaging my boyfriend and me, and they both sounded like women names so i took the appointment. Well upon arrival, we found out my massage therapist would be a man. What the hell? They had suddenly changed. i was very uncomfortable with that but i still went along with it. Anyway, i proceeded to have the worst massage ever. My boyfreinds massage therapist did not even use the essential oils that Silk promises. He claims it was the worst massage he's ever gotten and mine was not good at all either. With the high amount that Silk now charges you would expect to receive excellent service. Well we recieved much less than perfect. My boyfriend told me the crappy massages i give him every night are much better than the one he received at silk.
I would not recommend Silk again and will never return.
Great Massage, Reliable Service – I've been here twice for a Hot Stone Massage, and each time they've been great. The service from the receptionist to the bathroom attendants was perfect...they were calm and didn't interrupt the flow of the experience. The ambiance was perfect as well. It's a peaceful and clean place. I recommend it.
A sumptuous decor and excellent service provide the backdrop for an exotic menu of services. – The Scene
Descend a staircase off Silk's street-level retail space and suddenly, you're in a whole other world: Rich fabrics, wood accents, flickering candles and Asian-inspired design mesh perfectly with supple leather seating and top-of-the-line equipment to create a vibe that's both modern and exotic. Past the amenities-stocked locker area and adjacent steam room, clients relax in a quiet, circular lounge; chairs here are separated by flowing curtains for added privacy.
Combining Eastern healing techniques with modern spa technology, Silk's services deliver visible results and ultimate relaxation. Massages incorporate a variety of modalities and focus on releasing blocked ki, or energy. Facials cleanse, oxygenate and fight aging using June Jacobs, Peter Thomas Roth and Darphin products; the decadent 90-minute Signature Facial is like a mini-vacation. Unique body treatments use ingredients like lemon sugar, papaya, mango or freshly grated apples to polish and tone. Waxing, manicures, pedicures and numerous packages are available.
Ask for Tom and the Untie the Knot Massage – I've had hundreds of massages in my life and I'd rank Tom as one of the
best massage therapists I've ever encountered. He read my intake questionaire
carefully, was friendly and easy-going and really got all my painful, knotty sore
spots. He really worked magic. I'm definitely going back, just for him! One note -
they should enfore a "quiet" policy in the relaxation area and i would prefer dried
fruits/nuts to the jellybeans. But otherwise, an excellent, wonderful massage experience.
Now a loyal customer – I am a frequent spa goer and Silk is by far the best spa in New York. The staff is really friendly and always looking to help. It seems like they really care. Whenever my girlfriends ask where to go for a spa visit I now tell them to go to Silk.
not all services are created equal – while I've had excellent massages at Silk, I recently made the mistake of adding a pedicure. The seating was extremely uncomfortable, especially for a tall person, and since it was scheduled after the massage, I lost all the benefits of the excellent deep tissue treatment. To their credit, when i complained, they did not charge me for the pedicure. Although I appreciated that, it did not make up for the pain I was in or the waste of time and money for a massage whose benefits I did not get to enjoy.
Who would have thought... – That this storefront spa had a gorgeous underbelly of spa treatments and excellent service.
I have been to the TOP spa's of NYC (including the $1000 price tag of the Mandarin Oriental) and Silk takes the cake.
From your choice of music, to the excellent selection of product to the no pressure sales technique to the amazing array of services and the cool waiting area, this place is the BEST!!!!!
Details,Details,Details!! – Walking into Silk Day Spa, I was warmly welcomed with the staff already knowing my name when I had never been there before!! The reception staff all were so eager to help out offering different fruit infused water, tea, and jelly beans. The questionairre had questions that no spa I've ever been to has ever asked and this made my massage that much better. The locker room was fully stocked with everything I needed for my dinner appointment that followed. My massage therapist was so personable and made me feel like gold in both skill and the comfort level he created. (I was hesitant on trying a male therapist). From head to toe, and the places I requested focus on, all knots were untied. As busy as this spa is, it amazes me how much attention to detail Silk puts into everything. I would rate this a 6-star spa!
Horrific Experieince – I had the worst experience from a stone massage. It was like a nightmare. The girl has absolutely no clue what a stone massage should be, just did the regular sweedish moves except used stones instead of hands. The stones were hot and burnt my back. She appologized and 10 minutes again did it again. Used way too much oil and just repeatedly stoked my back and legs with the rocks. Needless to say they will never see me there again.
Waste of time and money.
