Do not waste your $$! This restaurant has a great location and is very nice inside...the only things missing are a good cook and good waitstaff. If you want good food, pass on this restaurant.
Emperor's Clothing - Overpriced, Underwhelming Poor Service – 12/31/2010 Very Disapointing. Overpriced, untrained servers ("lobster biscuit" for bisque) and more. Mediocre taste, poor preparation. Ciopino bland, sandy, green beans luke warm, mashed potatoes cold, OVERPRICED, UNDERWHELMING. The emperores clothes. Flaminco guitar not there although we had confirmed in advance, had DJ music instead that was harsh, tinny, loud. Desert finished before coffee served, calamari greasy, service slow, way off. Never again. Too bad.
Osetra San Diego – This place was amazing from the decor, to the service, to the wonderful delicious food. My friend and I arrived on Thursday night in San Diego from Madison, WI and had a coupon from an online vendor for Osetra. We are both very happy we chose this as the restaurant to spend our money on. It is more pricey but no more expensive than it would be in Wisconsin for a good seafood dinner. We both had the Stuffed Mexican Shrimp which was AWESOME! We also had the spicy tuna roll for an appetizer, also AWESOME! We were so pleased with our choice. As far as any fishy smells, we smelt nothing of the sort. We also had martinis during happy our...scrumptous! We have nothing but the highest regards in terms of this restaurant. Definitely try this place out!
Bad food. Worse prices. – It was my first time in San Diego and I was looking for someplace to treat myself to a great meal. Unfortunately, I stumbled upon this place. It looks great from the outside (and the inside). The decor is great, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the service is attentive (even though my waiter made an odd comment about me dining solo). But the food left much to be desired. I ordered a lobster and crab ravioli that was a huge disappointment. It was the fishiest-tasting and smelling lobster/crab I've ever had. And the wine (granted it was a "by the glass" variety) had clearly been open for a few days. Any subtle flavors had been long gone. The worst part of this all: It's an expensive joint and it's surrounded by plenty of other restaurants to choose from. So keep walking. . .
Service and Menu Items not worth the cost – Live in AZ and visited this weekend expecting a nice seafood meal. The hostess and support staff were very pleasant. All except the person who actually served us. Found his arrogance nauseating as he snapped at our 4 yr old, suggested to one of our guests that he did not know how to order a steak (which, of course, came out undercooked), and in all gave us the genuine impression that our presence was not appreciated. For a restaurant that was half-empty on a Friday night I was somewhat surprised.
The 4 of us (my son was not too picky) could not decide on what to order. Not because of all of the selections, but because nothing on the menu was all that intriguing. Having dined in Seattle, San Francisco, Vancouver B.C. and many other great seafood environments, I was disappointed that a restaurant that portrays itself as a top seafood restaurant couldn't come up with something more appealing. Fortunately for them (and unfortunately for us) we were not in the mood to hunt around for another place to eat. We won't make that mistake again. For less than what they're charging, you can find much better service and a more appealing menu. My recommendation is to skip this one - there's plenty of other San Diego restaurants that DESERVE your business.
Bad service – Osetra prompted me to write my first review. A few things were noticed from the beginning: an overwhelming & unappetizing smell of disinfectant from the open door to the service kitchen, the bathroom was shabby & the rug littered with linty stuff, my menu tattered & worn (attention to detail is why it is called FINE DINING), & my glass of Roderer Estate Rose was flat. So, while the worm in the oyster was disconcerting, it was the waiter's reaction that really put me off. His first comment after being summoned to view the unexpected garnish, still wiggling, was that ALL seafood have worms. OK, well, I am not accustomed to having them served to me. He then started to remove the oyster in question, leaving the rest. I asked him to please take them all bc I'd lost interest. He was audibly (ungh) & visibly annoyed. The manager did come by shortly, appropriately apologetic, and offered to send a mixed appetizer of some other items. Great, thanks for that. Though I haven't encountered lamb chops as an appetizer before, the accompanying crab cakes & tempura shrimp were tasty. Still, the heat of the crab cakes & lamb chops severely compromised the integrity of the tuna roll ( I think that is what it was) and I was feeling nervous about what could possibly come next, having ordered Maine lobster.
I expected superlative acts of polished service after the worm but we were barely seen to and, though my second glass of champage bubbled properly, the spinach I ordered was forgotten & the waiter had the uncouth-i-ness (thanks, Colbert) to let us know that we wouldn't be charged for the oysters. Of course. I can't believe we were charged for anything. I should've told the manager of all the other incidentals. Thought about it, but on the way out, I stood next to him at the hostess stand being ignored even after I complimented the lobster as being the best I'd ever had (true). He grhmped & continued ignoring me. Not worth even great lobster.

Located in the heart of the Gaslamp, the restaurant is spread throughout two floors and includes an imposing wine tower that waiters scale using pulleys to retrieve hard-to-reach bottles.
