I love Dustys! – This is such a great restaurant! The staff is so friendly and unpretentious and the food is consistently great.
I have tried many items on the menu including the turkey burger, salmon, various soups and salads and each one of them have been delicious.
Everyone I know agrees.....Dustys is a gem.
Best neighborhood restaurant – We have been coming here semi-regularly for about the past two years and have never been disappointed. These have all been dinner visits, so I cannot comment on the breakfast. The ambiance, wine and food are perfect. We always want to try new, nice places, but always end up at Dusty's.
Hipster/Waiters – Gawker once listed restaurants in Brooklyn with different types of terrible, holier-than-thou hipster service. If they reviewed LA, Dusty's would make it on their list. The particular hipster/waiter that served us this morning could not have been more disinterested if he tried. He was so hipster-indifferent, that it was kind of charming. I couldn't order tea because the restaurant did not have hot water. Disturbing? But ok, I can deal with that. The hipster/waiter actually appeared out of the blue the first time and dead-panned "do you want to order?" No hi, or what do you want to drink. This hipster/waiter was not one for small talk. Ostensibly, we did want to order, ordered and that was the last we saw of the hipster/waiter. He never checked in to see if we liked our food - we did, it was delicious - and he never cleared our plates when we were done eating. He was way too cool to be bothered with that.. The fact that he didn't even try made it somehow ok, though, because it was not like bad service that intended to be good service. That would be worse. We knew we were done with him and had no false expectations. Oh, wait, he did reappear once when the table next to us asked for Equal. Without making eye contact, he grabbed the Equal/Sugar/Sweet-n-Low holder off our table and gave it to our neighbors. But even that was funny and gave us an opportunity to talk to our neighbor who kind of looked like Ryan Phillipe. In short, the food is good, the service is what it is but does place you in the proximity of servers who are so cool they are almost tragic and the clientele is really attractive/famous.
One of my favourites – I too am equally as mystified as the last reviewer. I've been a regular at Dusty's for the last few years even though I no longer live in the neighborhood. As a Londoner I struggled for a bit to find an LA spot that had that great combination of delicious (consistent) food as well as a fun layed back atmosphere.. with out pretension. I found it in this one of a kind Bistro. I love it best at night and have always found the service to be friendly and spot on. I always see the same people there (there's a strong following) and I think the music is by far the most diverse and interesting of any place I've been in this town. I can only imagine that those who wrote negative reviews had a bad one off experience (which can happen anywhere) or just don't get it.. more room for anyone I've ever taken there!
Silver Lake's Gem – I am totally mystified by all of the reviews below citing terrible service at this charming-yet-hip spot with an excellent, varied menu. I have been eating here regularly for nearly two years and have NEVER had even average, much less poor, service. The wait staff is professional, knowlegable and efficient. During Sunday brunch the wait time for an order may increase but that's due to the heavy traffic. In my experience, even when there was a delay the wait person checked back in and apprised me of the situation. Besides, people-watching and celeb-spotting aren't the worst way to pass the time here. Exactly the kind of place the neighborhood needs more of.
LOVE IT!!!! – Wow, I'm new to city search and decided to look up my favorite places and now I feel I must defend them! I ABSOLUTELY love Dusty's. I've been there for b-fast, lunch AND dinner, totally happy with them all! Yeah, Sunday brunch is totally crowded but it's the same anywhere in the neighborhood, you might have to wait for stuff, geeze! I love brunch here! Obviously there's a reason their so busy! p.s. have you seen the size of that kitchen? Tiny, I'm sure their working hard. The dinner menu is amazing and I come here with my husband and w/ friends at least 6 times a month (or more) thank god it's in the neighborhood! All you complainers, just go somewhere else and give this restaurant a break, it's wonderful!!!! GIVE DUSTY'S A TRY!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT! Now I'm off to defend my other favorites (you city searchers are harsh sometimes, it's just food)!!
great dining experience – My friends have been talking about Dusty's for some time. I finally went, and I am very happy I did. We were five people, and all had different dishes, and all of us enjoyed our meal immensely. I had the organic filet with foie gras. Cooked to perfection, and to die for. I am looking forward to going for breakfast. I hear they are great and not to miss the crepes and french toast with fruit. Their fruit is the best, I am told. Everyone was so friendly and relaxed. No attitude. I didn't go sooner because I thought it was one of those trendy hip places with attitude. I thought wrong. Will be back again, and again. Thanks for a great evening.
Great salad, great food – The food at Dusty's is some of the best I've had in Los Angeles. The Scheherezade salad is a fantastic vegetarian salad, combining hummus and eggplant caviar amongst olives and other interesting ingredients. The portions are large and we can get a side of french fries with most things on the menu. They are extremely good french fries. It's a relaxing atmosphere at night when the candles get lit. Take a journey to Dusty's.
friendly service – In defense for all the good servers I have encountered at Dusty's I felt I had to put in my personal opinion. I have had many meals at Dusty's and have seen many servers come and go. Some have all the qualities of a freindly and capable server, and some are actors wanting to pay their rent. LA has many actor/waiters. Sometimes they make up for their lack of food service knowledge with personality. Silver Lake abounds with artists, actors, musicians. Give them a break! The food is way above the rest. The breakfasts are always enjoyable and have many original dishes that we never see anywhere else, such as eggs chasseur, eggs baked in wine, tomato, mushroom, onion and wonderfully spiced. The wonderful bread basket with baguette and pecan raisin breads, served with butter, and jams come to the table promptly. My birthday party of 16 was very enjoyable. I will go back for my next.
Nice ambiance, unfortunately poor service – Better late than never! My friends and I went to Dusty's when it first opened. Now that I have decided to share my LA dinning comments with citysearch I thought this was an important experience to list. In short the atmosphere was comfortable, however, the service was horrible. We had the tuna tartare and did not enjoy it. I'm not sure if they still make it the same but it previously incorporated coconut sauce. Being tuna tartare experts, we took one bite and decided to send it back. Our waiter sent the manager over and we told her it tasted poor and asked her what it included. She came back from the kitchen and revealed that it had coconut sauce. She removed the dish from our table and nothing else was done. When we asked for the check we saw that the tartar was still on the bill. Outrageous! For a new restaurant (at the time) this was a horrible play. We have never been there since, and by the look of the reviews on CS, Dusty's continues to support their bad service practice.
