Great Martinis but Why the Loud Music? – I went in there Thursday night with a friend to talk over martinis. The doorman was very friendly, we sat down in a nearly empty bar. There was one other small group on the other end of the room. It is a dimly lit dive bar with the glass candles on each table. The martini was near perfect- vodka martini dirty with the thin layer of ice on top. The bartender was kind, everyone was kind.
My only beef is the music is loud and inconsistent. It would be roaring one second (with 5 people in the bar) and then lowered to a decent audibility and then fluctuate again to roaring for about an hour it went up and down during the same song. It was aggravating.
I hear its packed on the weekends, maybe I wouldn't care then.
Not a good location – Used to go to the bar often to listen to great 80's music and be around a good crowd. But being robbed at gun point right outside the bar made me never return. It is not in a good area.
Good Place To Meet People – A bit far from the center of the nightlife activities but a cool place for a romantic evening. You might meet someone... you'll never know...
Not too bad, and better than anything else. – I've been hopping among all the recommended "it" bars and so far, this one has left the best impression. The drink prices aren't *that* bad and the outdoor smoking alley is tight. The doorman is totally sweet.
Overrated – Everyone was raving about this neighborhood bar, so I decided to check it out. Went on a week night and was very disappointed. The drinks were expensive for what should be just a little dive bar in East Hollywood. The staff was pretty horrible- from a sleezy pretentious door guy to snotty bartender. There was no where to sit and the whole bar smelled a little like a farm house. The only draw was that the DJ was pretty good. But I'm definately NOT planning on going back.
LOVE the BAR – this is a great spot. overall, i think its one of the best bars in LA. the decor is spot on.
our drinks were stiff, super easy to just walk in and meet friends. perfect size and the music is great. not trendy, good mix of funky people....this place rocks!
a total gem...LOVE The BAR – this is a little gem of a bar....the bartenders pour great drinks and the place it totally cool. moved here from NY and so happy to find a real bar without a velvet rope. the drinks are great the vibe is perfect. kudos to the owners, they did a great job.
Modern makeover gives this longtime dingy dive bar a new lease on (night) life. – The Scene
Around town, slick lounges are fast replacing dives as the places to get stiff drinks, rock out or simply kick it. This geographically apt named venue used to be Raji's--an establishment straight out of a Bukowski novel. While the exterior has been only lightly touched up, the new owners have completely renovated the inside. The narrow, yellow-tinted space resembles a vintage parlor with its deep-brown color scheme, wall sconces, flickering candles, hanging fans and high ceilings. A fire-engine red, rock-and-roll-packed jukebox sits next to the well-stocked bar. Outside, a bamboo-lined smoking alley outside shares a wall with the St. Moritz Motel.
The brooding crowd prefers to sip drinks, silently stare at the coquettish bartenders and nod their heads in tandem to the sounds of the Ramones or the Hives than to meet and greet with other patrons.
This nice place needs a better name!! – I liked the place. It's too bad it was WAY TOO crowded to appreciate the looks of the place. No cover. I have to say, lots of beautiful women, it's trendy, music is great (most of the time it was the '80's!) Parking is not too bad $5 right next door in a lot. Drink are HOOKED up but pricey. The only downfall is the amount of people and it does get stuffy!
Very... average. – After being charged $75 for 5 drinks... yeah, that's what I said... I decided this place was just another LA bar claiming to be neighborhood but striving to be trendy. Oh, and here's a hint: ladies, beware of one of the two owners - he owns a bar for a reason.
