Though known for its Asian cooking, Nectar also specializes in products from local makers in Chester County — their post-dinner options include an amazing cheese board highlighting artisan cheesemakers located just a few miles from the restaurant.
Horrible front desk customer serice – I stopped by on the Eve of a holiday to pick up 2 gift certificates for no less that $400 and this ignorant female at the front acted as if she was too good to even open the locked door to let me in. I had to wait in the car and keep calling in to request that she let me in. If it had not been someone else's favorite restaurant, I would have went elsewhere where they appreciate the business.I know this is an upscale restaurant but to "that girl", you are no better than the rest of us, you work there, honey.
pretentious mediocrity – I've dined in some of the finest restuarants in the country. This is not one of them; realistically, I don't expect four star food and service from this level suburban establishment. So, let's just leave the discussion to "what do you get for $200 for three people for dinner?". In my case, three drinks, appetizers and three entres. The soup was way too salty. The foie gras, maybe OK, but the portion was so pathetic that taste wasn't a consideration. My companion was picking her copious croutons out of the salad. The asian duck could be had in many local chinese restuarants. My crab cake was average at best, certainly not up to many decent seafood eateries. The service was a laughable clown show of confused immigrants for whom I actually felt sorry in that they had no business being put in the situation to meet the expectations of the paying public. Enough said.
Good Food, Small Portions – I ate at nectar for the first time this evening and really enjoyed the food. I was surprised by the small portions though. I usually leave with a 'doggy bag' but was hungry enough to get some Baskin Robbins on the way home. The meal was also pretty expensive considering the portion sizes, about $55 for two people without drinks or dessert. The decor in Nectar was really modern and flashy - I loved it, but the tables were WAY too close together. I'm glad I was there on a Sunday night when the place was empty. I'd go again, but will definitely try some other places first!
Swanky sushi – I've dined at Nectar on several occasions and each time the food has been great! It is a little out of the way coming from the city, but when I know I'm in the area, I like to stop in. The last time visit, we had a group of twelve. The server recommended an assorted selection of sushi, sashimi, potstickers, crab cakes and spring rolls, a great choice for the numerous palates at the table. There was something for everyone. The sushi is good (I recommend the foie gras sushi, one of my personal favorites) I have also tried the filet and short rib combination, the filet was cooked to perfection, however the short rib was a tad on the dry side. Nonetheless, I enjoyed myself. The noise level is a little much for it to be romantic, but it does have a nice ambience. The bar tends to get packed later into the evening. I have been please with the service and food each time I've been there. I can see where other reviewers say "it's pretentious", you kind of have to know that when you come, apparently it's the 'place' for the Mainline moms to be seen on a Friday night.I have always come with great company and haven't really noticed much.
Great Food and service – Amazing Food, Amazing Service. Highly recommened. The best place too go to eat.
No recommende for children under 10 years old. It is very romantic. Causal but dressy.
Boom Box Beat, Good Food, Self congratulatory – I suppose I'm among the old type who fail to see the lure of this place.
First, you do need reservations.
You go in - you are met by a bar and the "aren't I beautiful" people. (Do I really care?)
The ears are immediately affronted by the constant four/four thudding that you might hear from the hopped up cruiser at the stop light in the hood. (Why would I want to have a nice dinner to this noise?)
Oh, yes, there are candles, and dim lights and high ceilings - all the trappings of "am I not only beutiful, but I know all the chic places" - But again - what has that to do with dining?
So, I asked for a more quiet table. They were most accomodating. Upstairs we went. But now, at this height, the "music" was lost and all we heard, the entire time, was "thud, thud, thud," beating in our ears.
Is this supposed to enhance something I'm not aware of?
Then there is the noise level in general - the loudness of table conversation. I suppose if you are simply asking your spouse how the day went, and you have to compete with the ambiant boom box thudding, everyone is obliged to raise the level of their speaking volume. The result - LOUD!!!
What is this trend? It's the same at so many places.
The food was nice - nothing superlative, but good. Nice bass, nice scallops and beef. The duck was nothing more than you'd find in any Chinese restaurant.
The service very good as well.
WHY - WHY dp they have to be so loud? If you're spending $100 for dinner for two, you want to have dinner and a civil conversation not a battle with some homey's g---to blaster.
I think this is another of the every increasing self-congratulatory restaurants for people who need to feel that they are "IN".
Terrible service and attitude – My husband and I had 8:30 reservations on a Saturday night. We got there at 8:25 and were asked to go to the bar because our table was not ready. Well, the bar was packed and there was no where to stand. We found a corner and waited . . . and waited and waited. Finally, at 8:50, my husband asked the hostess how much longer it would be. She said another 20-25 minutes. No apologies, and no offer to remediate the situation. We had another engagement we needed to get to so we could not wait. This seemed to fall on deaf ears, and they did nothing but look at us with blank stares so we told them we were leaving. Again, no reaction. The valet asked us how dinner was, and we told him we never ate because our table was not ready, and would not be until an hour after our original reservation time. He explained that they were busy because other restaurants had power outages and they had a lot of walk-ins. He told us that he would go in and get us a table right away. The valet was great, but why was the valet the only one offering to fix the situation? And, why are walk-ins treated better than those who have reservations and have dined there before? I called to speak with a manager, but only an asst. manager was available. I explained our experience and he said that service is usually better, but never offered an apology either. He took my name and number and told me that the manager would call me back, but, not surprisingly, I never heard from the manager. It is incredulous how unresponsive and unapologetic they were and I could never go back there or recommend Nectar to anyone. I would rather drive the extra 15 minutes to go downtown and experience better service.
Did Not Dissappoint! – We thought it was just great! Great atmosphere - great bar and drinks and great food. They have a large selection of items, so there is something for everyones palate (as long as they like Asian food). Highly recommend.
A Real Winner on the Main Line – My boyfriend and I have been here twice and we've had nothing but impeccable food and service each time. First time was on a Sunday - it was quiet and everything was perfect; We went back on a Friday night and it was louder but the service was still perfect and the food was exactly as we remembered it. Do not hold back when you go - the pre-dinner martinis are to die for, and make sure you save room for dessert. This restaurant has the best of land and sea, so there's something for everyone.
Creative Menu, Eclectic Ambiance – The cavernous 19-foot ceilings, stonework walls covered with candles, and swift and efficient wait staff make any meal at Nectar memorable. Sampling off of several of my companions? plates, it was also clear that every dish, from the tenderloin with shrimp to the calamari with squid, was creatively displayed and incredibly delicious. Portions were reasonable despite the impression of gluttony the menu gives--especially the dessert menu. Though we were seated a good half hour past our reservation (made a month prior), and the prices are rather extreme, Nectar is a great destination for a dinner with friends. This not a good place for a quiet, romantic dinner on the weekends: the atmosphere is eclectic but the place is loud and crowded--especially around the bar.
