Citysearch Editorial Review – There are plenty of places to find Vietnamese-style sandwiches (banh mi) all over the city, but for inspired twists on the traditional sammie, there are none like Baguette Box. With locations in Fremont and Capitol Hill, the little sister to popular PNW/Vietnamese fusion eatery Monsoon makes a splash on the local lunch scene with hot and cold sandwiches filled with crispy chicken, braised pork belly, grilled eggplant, tuna in olive oil and more. Sides—beet salad, fries with truffle oil, etc.—are more exotic than your standard deli, but not as exciting as the sandwich/salad menu. Take-out is the dining method of choice here (and busy lunchers can order online in advance) though there are a couple of shabby communal tables if you choose to dine in; dog-friendly diners will appreciate the décor, a mix of poochie paintings and photo portraits of man’s best friends.

The best sandwich money can buy – I was so happy to discover this place. I had always dreamed of a place with crusty baguettes topped with a variety of delicious ingredients. I love the lemongrass steak and braised pork sandwiches. I would eat here every day if it was near my work. We need more places like this in Seattle!

Definitely Not a 5 Star Lunch Spot – My wife and I went to the Baguette Box this past Saturday. I ordered the Tofu sandwich with Avocado; she ordered the Lamb sandwich. After waiting over 25 minutes our sandwiches were ready. Yes, it was the Summer Solstice Parade, but there were only 2 active orders in front of us (the 3 employees ran helter/skelter with no real order to what they were doing and/or cooking).

So we receive our food. The lamb was doused in the yogurt sauce, as if to put out a fire. The little lamb that was there was adequate, but the overall presentation of this sandwich and the associated mess it resulted in was unacceptable. My Tofu and avocado had 2 little slices of avocado I had to search for. Notably, we could have called these Bread Sandwiches with a bit of flavor, or more appropriately a Baguette with sauce!

I would strongly recommend going next door to PCC and eating Real, Healthy Food.

Big messy sandwiches with sophisticated Asian and Italian flavors keep Capitol Hill happy morning, noon and late. – The Scene
Not much bigger than a bread box, the tall ceiling, mismatched tables and chairs and angled glass window put this wee cafe right in stylish step with other functionally funky spots in the Pike/Pine corridor. Customers order at the counter and wait for staff to bring out their order; the open kitchen allows cooks to offer advice if a decision simply can't be reached.

The Food
One simple Italian sub features cured meats from beloved local institution Salumi, but flavors range around the world. Grilled pork loin topped with caramelized onions and fresh cilantro, and spread with a house-made herbed mayo, tastes just like summer in Cuba, while the Drunken chicken has a sweet tangy flavor, but too much crispy breading. Hot sandwiches include a Vietnamese beef stew and a giant, tasty meatball sub.

Try the Chorizo – I don't know why, but this sandwich sounded odd to me too before I tried it. Holy mole is it good. I dream about it. It's a full 12"ish chorizo (small diameter- so not overwhelming), and comes with caramelized onions, grilled peppers, and fresh cilantro. Man. I'm hungry. A friend and I often go around 2 and there is usually a place to sit (there is probably a total of 20 seats, and the food is great, so be prepared to battle for seating once in a while). Their beet salad is a wonderfully simple plate of sliced cooked beets with a drizzling of olive oil and fresh pepper. So yummy. The truffle fries are worth the $2 or $3 hike in price (compared to the non-truffle oil tossed) - if you've never had truffle fries, you will crave them frequently after you indulge. They offer Thai iced tea and/or red wine, as well as Cricket soda, orange/lemon pelligrino, or just a glass of water. Order at the counter and the food is brought out to you at lunch. I've never tried dinner, but would be eager to...it's nice to see they're open late on weekends. Parking can be a B so enjoy a stroll down from the Hill or up from downtown. It's dangerously close to both. Just save a spot for me, alright?

mmmm... such good sandwiches – The Baguette Box has amazing sandwiches. I would recommend the Braised Tofu Sandwich with Avocado and don't forget a side of Truffle Fries! Unfortunately, I am a vegetarian and most of their sandwiches have meat in them. Their space is really cool, kind spare art loft-y-ish. The staff are not the friendliest of people, but are never rude or anything like that. I highly recommend this place.

Very good Grilled Lemongrass Skirt Steak Baguette. – I have not been there but they catered our company meeting and wow, this sandwich was delicious! I love vietnamese sandwiches but sometimes their meats are dry. This sandwich was definitely juicy and the cilantro and other vegetables made it a fantastic version of the vietnamese sandwich. I had already eaten but I finished the whole thing! Couldn't get enough. I have also heard great things about their Drunken Chicken sandwich. Can't wait to check it out for myself. Also, their fries were really good, meaty. :)

Yum! – I adore their "Drunken Chicken" sandwich -- with an order of fries and a copy of The Stranger, this place is perfect for a quick lunch bite. It's hip Capitol Hill but not to the point of being uninviting, as I have found so many of the area restaurants to be. Whether they are busy or slow, the sandwiches are also mouthwatering and the staff is always very welcoming.

Highly reccomend!
