I love this bar so much!!! – I think this is my new favorite bar! So cute inside! Great music! And very friendly staff, which is rare in New York CIty! There is no pretension here, just great atmosphere and great cocktails and wine. Had such a good time at their happy hour that I forgot my wallet which had a bunch of cash in it! they went above and beyond to contact me and I actually got my wallet back with absolutely nothing missing! So refreshing to be so well taken care of during and after my visit to the Dove.
BEWARE! Charged other people's drinks and food to my tab! Overpriced! – DO NOT OPEN A TAB HERE. PAY CASH. Went here for Happy Hour with a few close friends. Found it odd when one friend left with only a $12 bar tab after 3 hours of drinking and eating. Only later to find out that not only had her drinks and food been put on my tab, but additionally another $81. Instead of taking off these charges, they ran my credit card thru twice resulting in me getting charged around $200. BEWARE! Make sure you keep an eye on your tab, or you too might end up paying for a bunch of strangers night of fun! DO NOT GO HERE!
very nice – i had a birthday get-together there. made a reservation one day prior. they set up a nice roomy corner for us. music volume was loud but not too loud. an overall great place for a great time. (clean restroom for us girls)
Fantastic bar with great ambience – A great, grown-up place in a neighborhood full of college bars. Nothing wrong with a beer-soaked fraternity party, but the Dove is a nice exception. Deserves its romantic reputation, though it can get pretty crowded on the weekends. Attracts a pleasant crowd. Fantastic ambience, attractive decorations, great couches if you can snag one, and good happy hour prices. Absolutely worth visiting.
great conversation bar + creative inexpensive drinks – I finally got to check this place out after walking by it so many times. I was curious after i read some review calling The Dove a "bar for people who like to read." Sounds weird, but totally true - this is an intellectual's bar. No rowdiness here (at least not at 10pm on a Friday night), just cozy groups/couples chatting it up. I love the decor in this place too - victorian, lush red upholstery, ample seating, cool center ceiling. They played varied music, some i liked better than others, but all of it was happily muted so that you could hear what your companions were saying. My only disappointment was that I didn't get there in time for the happy hour (ends 8pm)! I had a Peach Cobler specialty cocktail - creamy peachy goodness (no sick refs intended), $9, well mixed. I would definitely come back! It's a good place for a small gathering or a date.
High-flying Victorian grandeur and low-budget beverages. – The Scene
Greenwich Village sensibility meets 19th-century charm at this sub-sidewalk level watering hole. The decor is straight-up Victorian--complete with red brocade wallpaper, ornate gold moldings, frilly pillows and matching teacups filled with snack mix. Despite the lavish details, the drinks are served at dive-bar prices, drawing a mixed crowd of fresh-faced college kids, gray-haired ladies, dressed-down dudes and glammed-up gals.
The bar offers 10 draft beers--poured through a shiny gold tap system--and a well-chosen wine list. On the drink menu, classic cocktails, like Manhattans and sidecars, are listed beside decidedly modern originals, such as the Honey Dove, a creamy concoction of vanilla soy milk, honey and cognac. But the most unlikely combination of all? The downtown-chic servers are disarmingly pretty, yet girl-next-door friendly.
great bartenders and great atmosphere – i love the bartender here she is hot and the place gets 10 trendy points from me! i love teh areas where you can hang out with your friends and the bathroom makes me happy when i have to use it. This is the type of bar you can spend hours in having a great time with friends or if you want to meet people.
Crowd pleaser. – Everyone is super friendly, the drinks are cheaper than you'd expect, it's super clean inside and anyone I've ever brought there loves it- a total crowd pleaser.
Surprising – I have never been to a bar that has been as accomodating as The Dove. There were 8 girls in our party nor had we reserved a table. Even though the place was fairly crowded when we arrived the hostess (potentially owner?) continually made sure we were sitting somewhere and comfortable. The place also had charm and was very laid back. Service was great. It was an all around great time!
Mellow, Classy, Upscale yet Unpretentious – The Dove is the best bar I've been to in a long time! As a single guy, it's nice to be able to actually carry on a conversation with women- there's no loud music, no sports on TV, and no meatheads to bump into. Just a classy place, nice decor, mellow music, great service, and relatively inexpensive. Also would be a great "first date" place- very romantic lighting and she'll be very impressed that you know of such a cool place :)
