great haircuts (fair pricing, similar to other places) – when you go in there are many women working there walking around everywhere, they all dress in black but in whatever style they want. it's a very airy, open environment. you can smell the Aveda products right away, very refreshing. you might feel a little intimidated since there are so many female workers there but also because they of course all have great hairstyles and so their appearance is more "upscale."
pretty much don't walk in dressed like a slob.
this place was recommended by my mom, who absolutely loved a hairstylist named Brandy. apparently she just always did a great job of cutting my mom's hair. so my mom set up an appointment for me and i went. i think i got lucky because Brandy seemed like the friendliest, most talkative and just really positive person in there. not everyone was like that in there, though i don't blame them. she really did do a great job cutting my hair too, but i have short hair and didn't really care what it looked like and i wasn't there to get it bleached or colored.
so....i think it really just all depends on who your stylist is and whether or not you're going in there with a specific goal in mind. i went in pretty carefree and open-minded. i'm sure if i had gone in with a very detailed, picky picture of what i wanted done with my hair, it may have been a different story. the simple basic cut was $36. it's also good to tip.
overall, i had a good experience but it all depends on the stylist, the day, and your mission.
Great Curly Haircut! – Modern at Birkdale offers great customer service and I always have a positive experience.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! – Everyone I came into contact with was completely Snobby, from the front desk to the stylist. I spent a fortune to be treated like I was dirt and on top of it I didn't even like my hair. What a disappointment. On a recommendation of a friend I next went to Valeria Salon and saw Hudson. He did a great job and was really nice. It also cost less for better treatment.
Color was great, but be careful of the cut!!! – This was my first Aveda experience and it was a recommendation from a friend who is an avid Aveda fan for hair. I trust this friend completely as her hair is always awesome. I paid over $200 to get a nice color, they'll match your natural hair color even to a tee, but the cut was the worst I've EVER received by far! I was almost in tears for the first time and I am not a dramatic girl. I might recommend you go there and pay those prices for one thing- color. Otherwise, you could get a better cut at so many other reasonabley priced salons.
Best haircut ever! – I just visited Modern Salon & Spa (Birkdale) for the first time, and I cannot speak more highly of my experience! As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted warmly by two staff members and immediately taken to my stylist. Cade (the stylist) gave me the BEST haircut I have ever had and styled my hair better than I ever could. Plus, the wonderfully scented Aveda products made my hair look gorgeous (and smell great, too). My husband not only noticed my haircut, but he went on and on about it himself! I will never try another salon in Charlotte again--I'm completely hooked!
The manager saved the day... – Every woman has that special thing that they love about their face. I love my eyebrows.
I went to the Ballantyne location expecting above average service. I was livid when my eyebrows were butchered!
Still fuming from my eyebrows I go and get a pedicure. The woman informs me( this was a moment where I wondered if she was bold enough to mention the price because of my race) that my $35-$45 pedi was basically the same as a polish change. No scrub. No parafin. No massage. When this sorry idea of a pedicure was done, with wet toes, I had to walk down a flight of stairs, sit in the lobby and wait for my feet to dry siting next to the reception desk, to hear the conversations of the employees.
I frequent spas often, everywhere I go. I've never had an experience like this before.
This is NOT my idea of a spa experience. If a business is going to have a "Park Avenue" address they should have "Park Avenue" service.
The layout of the place was tacky. The staff was tacky with the exception of the manager who when I complained set me up with a woman who threads eyebrows. She fixed my eyebrows a bit, but not enough for me to go back to the this day spa. The manager seemed really out of place like she should have been working at a REAL upscale spa...
The best thing about this spa is the Boutique next door..."Her Therapy" where I got a great T-Shirt...
Best service!! – It's not very often you receive excellent customer service anymore, however Modern Salon still does. I had a discount coupon for another salon in Huntersville, so I decided to give them a try. I went in for an arm wax, and left half way through the first arm because the poor girl didn't know what she was doing. It felt like she was pulling my skin off. I rushed over to Modern Salon; to see it they could squeeze me in for an emergency fix. They not only fit me in, but Kristy missed lunch to help my poor condition. I always get great service and leave with a smile on my face, so I won't stray again, even for a coupon.
Jane is the best! – I am a Hairstylist myself, and although I work in the area, I like to visit other salons. I went to Jane on a referral from my yoga instructor at the Y in Ballantyne. I was skeptical about Modern Salon at first because I've heard that their color line isn't the greatest. I went to her for a hilite/lolite and the lolite is a red RED! Not only did it look great (not fake) from the get go, but I have never had a red that held this long...in my hair or my clients hair! I went in telling her it was up to her to do whatever she wanted. From the moment we met, I knew I met the stylist I have been looking for! She is sooooo friendly, attentive, conscientious and enthuiastic about hair! It was very refreshing to see all of those qualities in one stylist. Then to have great results on top of everything! I left it all in her hands (I also told her to cut whatever she thought I needed)and I have had more compliments on my hair since the first visit (I've been to her twice now) than ever in my career in the salon. The only downside is when I'm somewhere and someone asks where I get my hair done, I have to tell them to go to her and not me!!!! ;-) I need to have her teach me how to give an awesome scalp massage and shampoo! It's sooo relaxing and calming! I would spend $$$ just to go there and have her wash my hair!!! The front desk is also very well run.(This is the Ballantyle location-Jane works at several locations)The receptionists actually look up from their computer screens and make eye contact while they talk to you!! Very well run salon! Very educated and professional atmosphere, but not stuffy! Price point is high, but you get what you pay for when it comes to hair!
Beautiful enviornment, friendly people, extraordinary service. – Modern was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed the open areas, high ceilings, lots of light - the place is squeeky clean. Everyone I came in contact with was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The services I received were the best in the Charlotte area. Highly Recommend!!
