The best parties around!!! – I attended my sister's wedding rehearsal dinner at Matthew's 1600 on July 19th and I must say that this place is AWESOME!!! We arrived a little bit early for our scheduled party time as the rehearsal didn't take as long as we thought. The hostess greated us cheerfully and made us feel comfortable from the start. She went to check on the room to see if it was ready for us and to our surprise it was! We were escorted to our room and I was amazed at how large the restaurant was and exquisitely decorated. Our private room was located on the top level of the restaurant just above their main dining room. The room was perfect for the rehearsal dinner and everything was so fresh and clean! We started with some Crab Dip with French Bread which was the best I'd ever tasted & a cheese & fruit display that was absolutely beautiful. We then had a buffet dinner with a seafood dish with huge scallops, shrimp & crab which was to die for, tender beef tips which melted in my mouth, and a vegetarian pasta dish as my sister's husband is a vegetarian. Everything was so delicious and hot! Our server and bartender were so gracious and professional and made us feel as if we were in our own home! Just when I thought I couldn't eat another bite, out came this beautiful dessert display with assorted bite sized desserts. I had to try each one and was not dissapointed! This was my first time at Matthew's 1600 and I was very impressed! We're going to book our company holiday party there this year!

Bad Buffet – My family and I went to Matthew's 1600 for dinner on Mother's Day. I will admit I made reservations last minute and that Matthews was the one local place to have a reservation still available. My mom enjoys eating breakfast there on Sundays so I decided to try it. Upon arriving we were just given a buffet menu, they were not offering anything off of the regular menu that day, which I was not informed of at the time I made my reservation. The cost was $28 for adults and $18 for children ages 4-8, children 3 and under were free. The price seemed steep for the five children we had with us but what other choices did we have at 7pm ? So off we went to the buffet to find the fruit tray depleted, cold entrees, and just a few choices for desserts!! When we told the wait staff about the cold food they said that only one burner could be lite under each chaffing pan or the food would be too hot. I'd rather it too hot than end up getting sick!!! The dessert table had no serving utensils to pick the desserts up with and we ended up waiting way too long for the chef to get some since we had interrupted his conversation at the bar. My sister in law then found what looked to be a very long hair in her piece of cake. The waitress took it and then came back saying that it was "just a piece of string, ha, ha". After all was eaten the bill came and we were charged for 11 adults and 1 child. Never did the waitress ask the ages of our children, two of which were indeed 8 yrs old and we were charged the $28 adult price for!!! They did change the bill to reflect the correct ages and we left that evening with not such a great Mother's Day meal with our Mom. Next year we stick with fixing the meal ourselves!!!

A hundred-year-old restaurant in Catonsville is the spot for new takes on American-style classics. – In Short
Diners can choose from the cheerfully painted bar area, with its casual booths and handsome wooden bar, or the more formal dining area, complete with tablecloths and cloth napkins. Either way, the menu is the same: classic seafood, steaks and other fare, all delivered with a dash of something different. Pan-seared scallops, for example, are served with a sweet-and-sour pineapple-ginger sauce. Desserts, provided by a local baker, change seasonally.
