The Best Part of Our Trip to Denver – My wife and daughter and I were in town and went to the Capital Grille despite some of the negative reviews on this site. From the minute we walked in we were greeted warmly and treated by the staff as if they cared about us despite knowing that we would probably never be back. Our server, Michelle, gave us excellent recommendations for both our steaks and our wine (a superb Syrah) and we were so pleased with them. The service was just right... not too fast to be pushy but not so slow we forgot what we ordered. Michelle was back numerous times to make sure we were happy and our wine was poured. She asked us about our family and seemed genuinely interested. As for the food, I had the Porcini Rubbed Delmonico with 8-Year Aged Balsamic (so unique and full in it?s taste), my wife had the Sliced Filet Mignon with Cipollini Onions and Wild Mushrooms (absolutely able-to-cut-with-a-fork tender), and my daughter the Kona Crusted Dry Aged Sirloin with Caramelized Shallot Butter (from the sample she gave me even better than my steak.) My ?Wedge? lettuce salad with Bleu Cheese and Crumbled Bacon was fresh as if it came from the garden and the dressing was so delicious I ate every dribble. The entire night was beyond our expectations. Comparing it to another famous steakhouse we had gone to our first night in town revealed the Capital to be the winner in all categories. Expensive... yes, but well worth it. It will be an experience we will remember for quite awhile and, if ever again in Denver, we will certainly be back.
Not so good anymore – At one time, Capital Grille was a great place to go for a special occasion. Unfortunately, our most recent visit will be our last visit. Food was subpar, service was pretentious, and the overall experience was a huge disappointment. For a restaurant to command such high prices, they should be ready to deliver impeccable food and service, not just rely on their reputation.
Wonderful steaks and service – I have never the steaks at the upscale steak houses were any better than you could make on your grill. You hear me Ruth?s Chris, adding butter doesn't make your steak that much better. But the Capital Grille charged my mind. The steak was cooked to perfection (assuming you know what medium rare really looks like) and so very tender. Likewise our steak tartare appetizer was just as favorable, well seasoned yet not so much as to hide the true flavor of the beef.
In addition to the terrific steaks, the service is the best I have ever encountered. No attitude from the staff-just smiles and an "aim to please" attitude. When you make reservations, they will ask you if it is a special occasion. If so, your table will be decorated accordingly. In addition to a hand written anniversary card at the table when we arrived, our waiter sent us a thank you card a few days latter. This was also hand written and even made a joke relating to our conversation that evening. I have nothing bad to say-although it is pricy, but well worth it.
Best service and food – We had a family dinner at this restaurant and were impressed by the staff and their willingness to go above and beyond to make our evening un-forgettable. When we realized we forgot a camera, one of the stuff members ran out to get us a disposable camera. Our food was superb.
What a great place! – I have now eaten here a few times and the food has been amazing. The service has been a little up and down but still pretty good even when it was not so good. Everything was explained well and all the food came as it was supposed to be prepared. We have always made reservations and have been promptly seated which is a plus. I would recommend this place to anyone as a definite destination for a top quality steak in the Denver area.
Steaks bad......restaurant over-rated – We have lived in Denver for a year and have read about the Capital Grille and their aged steaks. We had some friends in from Tucson and they wanted a greak steak before the Avalanche game. We were greeted promptly by a friendly hostess, seated immediately as there were only two patrons in the entire restaurant and they were sitting at the bar. Cutting to the chase, the service was poor, the steaks were not cooked to our specifications and were sent back to be re-cooked. Once they were brought back the second time....they were dry and could not be eaten. Did I mention we were there forever......and a day? Our friends left disappointed and hungry. Thank goodness for the many options for food at the Av's game.
Excellent, any way you look at it. – I went with my mother-in-law for lunch and we were treated like royalty. They changed our table linens from white to black (as I was wearing a black outfit). Service was prefessional, attentive and prompt. The food was amazing and well worth the price tag (lunch for 2 with soups and dessert was $120). Will definitely return again and again.
Outstanding experience – This is by far the best restaurant I've ever been too, across the country. Friendly, motivated staff combined with exceptional service and complimentary valet make this a sure thing when I want to entertain visitors to Denver. This restaurant thinks of everything, from bringing your car up as you are finishing desert to even placing your leftovers in the back seat for you so you don't forget them. Excellent food is experiences by my entire party each time I've visited (5 thus far). The staff is wonderful as they happily cater to your every request and provide complementary dessert should you be celebrating any occasion!
SO-SO food. – I went there last night to cleberate my anniversary with my boyfriend. We were really disapointed. The service was great...in fact if it wasn't for the service we would have been completely and totally disapointed. I ordered a filet and specified medium to medium well...Anyone that knows filets knows that if you're going to cook it a little more butterflying is the best bet..the outside was really good but the middle looked almost rare and I was gagging on my steak...for 40 dollars I don't want to be gagging. My BF ordered the Kona sirloin also medium and he's came out rare-med rare he sent his back and the outside was fine but the middle was still a little to rare. After complaining once we didn't want to complain again so we just got boxes so we can grill it a little bit more. The Chocolate hazelnut cake was great though. The service was great, the food not so much.
The Rat Pack would have fit right in at this elegant, clubby LoDo steakhouse. – In Short
Dark-paneled walls accented by hunting-dog oil paintings surround white-linened tables. Leather booths offer limited privacy, while curtained French doors hide four private rooms. A digital ticker broadcasts up-to-the-minute world news to buzzing bar patrons who include local sports celebrities and power brokers. The specialty here is dry-aged steaks and their sauces--from simple au jus to a Courvoisier cognac cream and peppercorn sauce. Try rich au gratin potatoes or creamed spinich on the side.
