The Worst Service Ever!! – My wife and I, with another couple, went to Strip House to celebrate her birthday Saturday night (1/28/12). All I heard about last year was this wonderful restaurant she and her friends go to when they're in Las Vegas (5 times), so I was excited to finally find out what the fuss was about. We had a 7 pm reservation, spent about 30 minutes talking and reviewing the menu. We ordered appetizers, half way thru them, we ordered our main entrees. We waited...and waited...and waited -- NO FOOD. We finally asked the distracted waited to check on our food, he came back to tell it will be out soon. Every table around us received their food, including the 9 patrons who were seated about an hour after us, so we requested to speak to the manager. Once he finally arrived, we expressed our concerns about our order, which he agreed to check on. He came back to tell us our order was delayed because we ordered our food late. At this time we were extremely disappointed with the service, so we decided to leave around 9 pm. I'm uncomfortable with using the RACE card, but we were the only African American patrons in the restaurant and we were the only patrons who didn't receive their food. I don't know if race was a factor but it certainty had a BAD SMELL. As we were awaiting on valet to bring our cars - the manager came out to let us know our food had been delivered and would we consider coming back in. Needless to say - we left and have no plans to ever return. My wife and I go out to eat - two to three times a week, and find dining at least twice a month. The Strip House had the worst service we've ever experienced, I can't comment on the food, since we never got the chance to eat - unless you count the appetizers.
Sexy atmosphere! – My husband and I have been to the Strip House quite a few times, and we've always enjoyed ourselves. Both the service and atmosphere are wonderful. Their food is excellent! The lobster is truly some of the best I've had, and trust me, I've had my fair share of lobster. The decor throughout is sexy, from the low lighting, to the red walls and furniture, to pictures of pin-up girls covering the walls. For those of you that are shy, know the pictures do contain a little bit of nudity, but you'll get over it quick. It's what makes the restaurant different than most - you sit wondering if you're really supposed to be looking at these images at dinner.
After dinner, we always manage (twist our arms) to squeeze in a few more drinks at their bar.
bankrupt for a reason – The food is sensational. Absolutely second to none. However.... the AC has been broken for YEARS? has anyone else gone to the strip house Houston in the summer time? the servers are literally dripping sweat. Why can they not afford a new AC? My server told us they are under chapter 11 and actually had their CAPPUCCINO machine repo'ed out the front door. HILARIOUS!!!! wine list is skimpy but solid. Why do the forks not match? why was my table served mismatching wine glasses? management needs to get it together BIG TIME. Besides that.... service is excellent, atmosphere is stellar and the food is masterful.... so... close..... to greatness
Mmmmmm! – Love this place. Atmosphere, service, food, wine. Can't say enough good things.
Best Kept Secret !! Amazing – This is by far Houstons best steakhouse. The Service is wonderful and the chef prepared meals is second to none. The bacon appetizer is wonderful and a must have. Never dissapointed and cant wait to go back !! The caviar baked potato is a must order also. Finally the wine selection is great and price great.
StripHouse Sensual Food – I absolutely think this is one of my favorite steak houses in Houston. Such an artistically interesting concept and the food is magnificent. For starters we had the bacon salad. Hands down the best bacon I've had in a LONG time. It was fat, juicy, and fully of flavor.
My husband and I both ordered a New York Strip and a Bone-in Ribeye, which came out gorgeous and cooked to perfection. For sides we had the black truffle creamed spinach, the creamed corn, and one of our favorites, the Romanov potatoes. The creamed spinach had such a pungently good flavor that matched the taste of the steaks. Each entree also came with grilled garlic - YUM!
We finished everything with the 24 layer chocolate cake, which basically put us into the best food coma we've had in a while.
I love the ambiance of the old photographs from twentieth century Europe -it reminded me of sitting inside the Zumanity Cirque du Soleil show and eating the prized meal of the day. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves there and we were definitely very well taken care of by the staff.
Aged to Perfection – I was privledged enough to attend a tasting of some of the Strip House's new menu items with the CitySearch Dictators last month and was not let down. Their delicious steaks are aged for 24 days. Lightly covered in salt and pepper they cook the steaks at 1800 degrees F and then let the meat rest for 2-3 mins to allow themeat to sitand reabsorb the juices. The result is perfection!
The Strip House even offers a 24 layer chocolate cake, that is featured on the television program, the Best Thing I've Ever Eaten. I will say that it is certainly good, but I am still searching for that cake personally.
Other new items of interest were the crab cakes, the sliders, the sprig rolls, and the grilled tuna. I will hav to go back to this wonderfully decorated establishment in order to check out the bar as well as some of the classy pictures on the wall.
They have been in the same location for five and a half years and offer complimetary valet parking for paying customers.
Fabulous Place – My boyfriend and I have visited the Strip House several times and always leave impressed. Truly one of the best steaks I have ever had and the Blue Cheese fondue is a must! The service is always wonderful and the waiters are very informative. We always have a great experience and the Strip House is a must try and least once, especially for steak lovers
Excessively Expensive – How can they seriously charge $4 for Diet Coke and $14 for house Cabernet. That's despicable. I also happened to have a $100 gift certificate that I tried to use, but "it has no cash value", which means I had to spend it all at one time instead of $50 for one visit then $50 for another. Very poor form on their part. Needless to say, I'll only go one more time, to use the gift certificate, then no more.
Mediocre – Took my husband here for his birthday after hearing/reading the great reviews and was severely disappointed. First, the valet was $7. Valet should always be complimentary, especially when you're shelling out $200+ for dinner and when you don't have a choice.
The ambience...The place tries very very hard to be posh but falls short everywhere. The best they could come up with is the opulent-looking velvet wallpaper. The rest is a bit schizo, trying to be both hip and modern and classic steakhouse at the same time. There are red leather booths, but they're cheap and uncomfortable. The crowded table setup, and substandard furniture reminded me of a strip mall mom&pop and left no room for intimacy...we could hear the conversations of both the table right next to us, and the one 2 tables down.
Onto the food...I ordered the foie gras to start and was served a large, cold, unrecognizable tube of paste served on a whopping king size bed of straight-out-of-the-jar dates, with a plate of extremely large baguette. This place needs to take a serious lesson in SUBTLE foie gras, from the venerable Cafe Annie, where foie gras is always done right. The green beans were completely undercooked, and my snapper, which was just decent, was served on some sort of frothy green liquid. This place is all about gimmick and needs to spend more energy on creating good food. The steaks are all ridiculously overpriced. It's like they're trying to convince you they're good just through the price (not through the taste). I don't mind paying a high price for a good cut of meat, but for the mediocre skills of the chef, it was nothing short of presumptuous.
The service. Decently attentive, but not polished. There were complimentary shot glasses of soup and pecan praline from the chef, but both were served flippantly. The service, like the food, reminded me of Outback Steakhouse pretending to be a Mark's.
And to round off the evening, when we went to retrieve our car, the valet left our keys in plain sight on the valet stand, while both he and his partner left for 5+ minutes. Very agitating.
If this place was a $ or $$, I would probably give it a 3 or 4 star, but considering the price you pay, the overall grade is 1 star.
