Management has changed... for the better – To defend Hedeh from the previous review, the quality has gone up again because of new management. I believe they took over March 2007. I really love their shrimp tempura and their fresh sashimi. I live close by and usually try to take advantage of their happy hour.
Now the average overpriced sushi restaurant – I found this place about 2 years ago and after my first meal there was hooked. I would go there at least once a week bring sushi lovers from all over town to taste the food I would rave about. While expensive(about $85 - $100 a person) the menu was filled with wonderful delicacies and exotic fish. I even turned some non shushi fans into sushi lovers after visiting with me. About a month ago I came back to find that the regular sushi chefs were gone. The management told me they had a falling out with the owners. I gave it a shot anyway and was terribly disappointed.
The menu is now the average menu with fish you can find at any cheap sushi/Chinese restaurant. My companion had the tempura and grease was literally dripping off of the food. The quality of the sashimi went from superb to somewhat average except for the yellowtail, which I must say was pretty yummy. It almost seems like they are getting the fish from a different supplier.
I am not trying to trash what used to be my favorite restaurant in Manhattan. In fact this is my first review ever. This is more of a heads up to the owners that they should go back to the old menu and find some sushi chefs that substantiate what I would now call a well over priced menu.
The service also went slightly down hill, but since it was a Saturday night I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
Great place! – I've been to this restaurant quite a number of times and every time, I enjoy myself more than the last. The environment is so gorgeous and perfect for a romantic dinner or just a dinner with friends and family. I see a lot of businessmen here too, so it's really just a great place for everyone.
I tend to go for their sushi (eel and yellowtail sashimi) and my husband orders the prime beef filet everytime. We recently tried their shrimp tempura, which was also delicious.
I would recommend this restaurant, especially if you've got a date you want to impress!
Cool atomsphere! – The design of this place is great, you cand watch chefs in their work and even the restrooms are tiptop. We ate sushi, which I tought was really good. Good service.
Come for DRINKS, not for food – Went here last night for a late night snack. Was really excited about the small plates concept but ended up disappointed by the food. Soy chicken was too tough and better, fresher sashimi can be found elsewhere. GO HERE FOR THE DRINKS! Sake flight! Sake Sangria!
Best drinks in The World!! – This place is absotely the best place to go for drinks. They have a sake sangria with many fruits, yuzu margarita, lemongrass margarita, sake martini, AND if you ASK, a bartender can make a special drink for you!!! trust me!! He makes the best drinks ever!!! he uses many fruits for making drinks. please stop by, and try it!! I am sure that you will love it!!
Food sub par-left hungry! – 4 of us were looking forward to this meal for weeks. Ordered the mixed yakitori skewers -overcooked and bland. Ordered the sashimi -toro belly, salmon, scallops and yellowtail -fresh and flavorful. And also ordered the Red Dragon Roll and the Fois Gras roll-very disappointed. Decided to order 2 hot appetizers -they never showed up as the restaurant became overwhelmed with people and food orders. So we cut our losses at $200 and caught a cab to grab another meal! Wouldn't recommend the hot food-do not subject yourself to sub par food.
I love Hedeh!!! – This is probably the best place in the city to meet up with friends and spend the rest of the night chatting away, while tasting amazing food and sake. It's so good that I'm hesitating about sharing it with too many people. Once the words get out, I know it will be hard to get the tables. I love this place in my neighborhood. Please don't share it with the tourists.
Quaint and Delicious – A couple of friends and I went on a Friday. The appetizers are great and the ambience is great as well. The food was excellent. Both of my friends absolutely loved it. The sushi was exquisite and very fresh. OUr waiter was so sweet. Quite expensive but worth the mula. TRy the tiramisu desert, your mouth will water.
The Perfect Date – Thanks to my friends for letting me in on this special secret. Everything was absolutely perfect, from the uncrowded dining area, unique decor, impeccable/friendly service, and of course the incredible food. The rock shrimp appetizer is a must have, as are the oysters and salmon skin hand roll. The sushi-sashimi dinner might have been the best I've ever had, and the presentation was gorgeous. The assortment of fish is chef's choice, but the server was quick to ask for any personal preferences I may have. My date ordered the freerange chicken, which I thought was a rather boring choice, but the server informed us that the recipe had just been revamped. After savoring each bite, she simply described it as "memorable." This place provided everything you could hope for in an unforgettable date - a peaceful, romantic setting, wonderful service, and delicious food. Can't wait to come back.
