Dirty – Ok, here is a situation where a company could have received a 4 or 5 star rating, but they blew it in the details. Darque Tan from what I am told is run by a company based in Texas.. The owner has put a lot into the facility, with many beds and two spray booths.. Now here is the part that makes me so pissed.. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to there and the spray booths are broken or out of spray. I have been there on a few occasions where the spray just pumps out air and not spray.. but what is a real pain is when you enter the booth, disrobe and find that there isn't a towel or the barrier cream is empty. The employees are nice enough, but have little control over what the owners choose to do with the shop. This issue of parking is something to keep your eye on... Beverly Hills has street parking, meters and residential permit only parking near this store. The store has spaces behind the shop, but the spaces fill quickly... when you park on the street MAKE SURE You check the time, after 7pm.. they start writing tickets like crazy.. and on Wilshire, if you park in the afternoon, you will come out of the booth just in time to see your car being loaded on a flatbed...($375 tow) plus a $75 ticket. Because of the size, Darque Tan has been able to keep prices low, spray tanning has a monthly unlimited price that makes the shortcomings worth the hassel. The bathroom, (this is nasty) is always a little dirty...
FUNGUS FROM DIRTY TANNING BEDS – I started tanning at Darque Tan a couple months ago, and after about the first month, I noticed little white spots all over my body. The staff told me to use lotions and I did, and the spots did not go away. Finally I went to see a doctor and he told me that the white spots were FUNGUS from the tanning beds not being cleaned properly. Furthermore, the medication for it is not covered by insurance and is over $60 per bottle. I contacted Darque Tan customer service and asked them to kindly refund me for the tans, at which point the rep told me that white spots are NORMAL, and that everyone gets them. I told them they are not normal and I would fax the information from my doctor and they continued to tell me the spots are not their fault. I have tanned for over 5 years and have never had any issue with fungus from tanning beds. They still have yet to refund me anything and the issue is still unresolved. So, beware- apparently Darque Tan thinks fungus from tanning is normal. If you do not want "normal fungus" I would advise you tan elsewhere.
hated it – i"m passionate about tanning and was excited about getting started after moving to LA. The salon was convenient to my work and I went in hoping for a friendly smile and a chat! Instead the girl behind the desk was finishing a call on her cell phone and Finally when she was done the salon phone rang and she talked forever at no point did she acknowledge me standing waiting and waiting. I decided after a long wait to buy 1 session and jsut wanted to relax after a long day but the bed was soooo dirty I had to call the girl to re-clean for me and she never showed me how to operate it either.
I now drive out of my way to tan because that was an outright stupid experience.
INSECTS IN MY TANNING BED – THERE WERE INSECTS IN MY TANNING BED AND ALL OVER MY CLOTHES WHEN I GOT OUT.
I don't know if I can ever go back to this place again. I tanned and when i looked at the itch on my leg, there were critters in the bed and all over my clothes that I had set on the floor.
Mystic Tan – I recently bought a Mystic tan package at a great price. The atmosphere is great and the staff very friendly and professional, however, I have scheduled appointments for the mystic tan twice in the past month and the machine has been out of service/not working properly. Since they only have one booth, it can be extremely inconvenient (especially when you make an appointment). It can take anywhere from a few hours to a day to service the booth. They are helpful to call you back when it's ready, but that means a second trip! Be sure to call before going in to make sure the booth is working properly, it will save you some time and headaches!
Simply the best all-around customer service – The beds there are amazing, they look like they came from the future...and, they always work (cant say that about a few other companies i went to)
The employees are super helpful and polite. Amazing prices.
I go at least once a week (more if the weather's bad).
Okay tanning facility, fees/package prices not thoroughly discussed by staff – First, let me say that I was initally very happy with my first visit and dealings with the Wilshire location. The sales girl was very friendly and, seemingly, answered my questions about their tanning (Mystic) prices/packages.
But this is where my good opinion of them ends. I went in for my 2nd session today and was told that I owed another $105 on top of what I had already paid the week prior. The sales girl had never disclosed that the package she was "up selling" me to was over $200! Initially, I came in with a Buy 1, Get 1 coupon from their site. I was told that they had a "3 pack" tanning session for $99, so I decided to purchase that instead. When the girl was ringing me up, she said, "Why not pay an extra $6 and get the additional sessions? It ends up being less expensive that way."
Wow! 3 or 4 extra sessions for $6 more? What a deal (or so I thought). As she was ringing me up she said I could pay 1/2 now & 1/2 later -- I said, "I'll just pay the entire $105 now." She never corrected me or re-stated that she meant there would be another $105 charge. She gave me my receipt, and off I went to tan.
My dealings today weren't so pleasant. The manager was trying to be as accommodating as she could, even though she made me feel like I should have known I would be charged again. She gave me a free session & extended my "final" payment to mid-April (I told her to forget about it, but she "fixed" my issue anyway), but my account will be frozen until then and I can't use my tannings sessions for the next 3 1/2 weeks.
So now, I will either have to go to another salon in the meantime (& spend even MORE money), or hope that an over-the-counter tanning spray will tie me over until mid-April so I don't completely fade.
I know a lot of people have had a great experience with this salon, but sadly, I did not/am not. I will run my sessions out and go try another place.
Make sure you get EVERY bit of pricing info before you sign anything!
Great Tanning Spot – I just recently started going here after I was finally able to break away from another extremely pushy chain (Le Beach club anyone?). I walked in and presented the get one get one free citysearch coupon, and was immediately able to redeem it for a cocktail (tanning bed followed by mystic tan for great absorption of the tan). When I came back into the reception area instead of a salesperson calling me over and shoving packages down my throat as I tried to escape out the front door, I actually asked the salesgirl for more info and she explained some specials they had without being pushy at all. Also their packages are a much better system than Le Beach Club as they go off a point system, which makes it easier to keep track of your sessions. Better pricing as well.
Great Experience!! – I will never go anywhere else again!! I used to go to a salon in Brentwood but was over the high pressure sales every time I went in. One of my friends told me about Unique Tan. The staff was very friendly, and very knowledgeable. The salon is HUGE and very well maintained. I tried their "best" bed, and was immediately hooked. It gives me the best, darkest tan I've ever gotten, anywhere, and I find myself going half as much as I used to. I LOVE IT!! I just can't say enough great things about them and will be a loyal customer for life!!
love it!! – jessica simpson was spotted here!! definitely will be back. The spray on tanning is amazing. I look like chocolate heaven! thanks guys
