The Rock Church Won't State Their Beliefs – Hello,

The Rock Church won't say what they believe. Their website is so vague it could apply to anything. I asked several Pastors if they believed in unconditional elect or limited atonement or any Part of the TULIP in Calvinism (A Heresy belief) and they would not respond that they don't. That is sad. All other churches I asked Horizon, Skyline, Pathways, told me absolutely not. Then I learn that there is Calvinists on the Pastor team/Staff. Everyone should be careful that the church is just trying not to offend everyone and misinterprets scripture to do it. You may not learn what the Bible truly means here because Miles is not a leader who puts his foot down and says this is who we are (More Armenian or More Calvinists), it's one or the other you cannot believe in everything.

Very entertaining church – The rock Church in San Diego is probably the most engaging and entertaining church sermon I have ever been to. I know some people don't like it because they feel it turns into the Miles show, but it is the way in which he presents the material in an understandable and engaging way that keeps your attention. I'll definitely be coming here again.

Messages that really make you think – We haven't attended the Rock regularly for the past 3 years, but we still miss Miles' sermons. They would get us talking and thinking about God and the Bible for the rest of the week - something that not all sermons do. They work very hard to encourage their members to be a positive impact in the San Diego community, which is exactly what I believe a church should do. I personally became involved in foster mentoring through their encouragement.

However, my wife and I both missed the community feel of churches where we were each raised - somewhere where you could talk to the priest/pastor after service, know a good proportion of the community, and our kids would have a nice Sunday school experience. The Rock tried to fill these gaps through their "small groups", but it just was not the same. It worked well for us as young dating singles, but not as a family with young children.

We found that it was easy to get lost in the crowd and hard to find a familiar face each time you go. But boy was it inspirational.

Kids welcome – I have 4 children and have been going to the rock for 3 years. This church had changed my life through the power of Jesus. I attended the Christmas eve service which did not have the usual child care provided. I was quickly reminded of how things were before the no children under five rule, noisy and distracting. My own kids and everyone elses. Thank God for the children's ministry who are more then happy to take care of our kids during service so that we cam get the full experience of being completely immersed in Gods word that we get here. The classes are even separated by age into small groups and the children are given age appropriate bible study. What more could you ask for. I do take my 4 yr old into the sanctuary sometimes and I have never had am issue as she is very quiet and well behaved. For anyone who is posting negative comments about the Rock or pastor Miles I pray that God would soften your heart and that you would seek and find the truth of Gods word. God bless you all.

A church with big problems – The Rock church sure does one thing great. And that's isolate themselves from society. It is one thing to profess your faith in the bible and in Gods law, but to push your values on the masses is tyranny. Not everyone in America believes in Christian values, the rock church was actively trying to get the yes vote on Prop 8. That is a great example of christians trying to FORCE their beliefs on everyone else. All it does is deplete their cause further. They need to wake up, and reevaluate their methods. This coming from someone who USED to go to the rock, I stopped when I realized it was anti gay and more the Miles show than anything else. And I am a Christian, UCSD student, native to San Diego.

Bible brought to life – Miles is a man who speaks and stands for something, even if it isn't popular. So many scream racism, or anti-gay. Miles, is biblical and any church that isn't speaking out against things that are anti-biblical are not speaking Gods word. Sorry people, you can't pick and choose what you like from the bible. You are either a believer or your not. Miles speaks the truth and that should be appreciated and others should be so strong. I have 3 children, two which are under 7. He is not anti-child - he is pro-service. This man does service after service all day long, because he wants us to hear his message. If there are screaming or talking children, that is not fair to others. He has a ton of Sunday school classes. He even does better then many churches and offers a special needs class. This is a church that DOES care about his children. Parking, lets face it....most of us could use a walk. Isn't the lord worth walking for?!

A look of Look Good/Feel Good to cover Power and Money – A good friend of mine has gone to this church for many years. She's a single mother and needs a lot of support at this time in her life. The church has been fair to her during this time - providing emotional support and stability for her. That is the only reason why I rate this church below a minus fifteen.

I'd like to rate it a negative 90 because the church spent a lot of money, time, energy and effort to take away the right of same-sex couples to marry. Why are they imposing their religious fear and bigotry on the rest of us? It would not be as bad if they did not fund and spread a lot of lies about Proposition 8. Look on the web for specific examples - here's one example: they said churches would lose their tax status because of Prop 8 - non-sense!

They should spend more time caring for their members and going good in the community, not attacking the civil rights of minority groups. Once they involve themselves in attack politics they head down the road of secularism and leave the realm of spirituality.

THE ROCK CHURCH IS NOT KID FRIENDLY – I had been going to the Rock church for 2 years until this church became not kid friendly, they do not allow kids in the sanctuary under 5 years of age. They will make you sit in the cafeteria and tell you to watch pastor Miles through a T.V. screen and tell you do praise in a room where there are only benches to sit in that are uncomfortable, but they sure will take your tithes and offerings and tell you you're not allowed in the sanctuary because kids are too noisy. HOW UNCHRISTIAN of them to tell parents not to come in with their children, not all kids are noisy and the staff should be able to tell a parent to take their kid outside of the sanctuary if the child where to start crying, etc. THey act as if children had a disease. It seems as if pastor miles never had kids, I wonder how he would feel if he went to a church that told him and is wife to sit in the kitchen because he had a child, I assure you that he wouldnt be going there.

The Rock does not hate gay people....or anyone... – To all those people who think that Paster Miles is anti-gay, you're right...Miles is anti-"anything that directly opposes the Bible". That is what he is all about. He has a belief and he sticks to it. If you need to know the reasoning, all of it has to do with that if you are a Christian, you believe that humans were created in God's image. God created man, or LIFE. Since God creates life and we are made in His image, we, as human beings are to create life. And we create life by becoming ONE with our spouse. A gay relationship can NEVER create life. Which means if you are gay, you can NEVER do what God created you to do. If Miles didn't preach this, he would be disobeying God. If certain pastors consider themselves Christian, and they don't preach this, they are misinterpreting God's design.

And that is just one reason why Miles is anti-gay....There are many more. Those of you who are talking badly about the man should try attending a few sermons CONSECUTIVELY. If you go once and Miles says "Being Gay is wrong in God's eyes" and then you go home all angry, you are basing your opinion on a very small sample of Rock messages.

But regardless, nowhere does Miles mention hating. Its all about love. Miles loves God and loves being a leader in God's community. He wants to bring that love to everyone and being gay contradicts what God's love is all about. God still loves Gay people, but gay people do not choose to have a relationship with God because they choose to be gay. If they think they DO have a relationship with God, then that Gay person is also choosing to disregard the Bible.

Also, if you think your gay, try looking to the Lord...Seriously. Read the Bible. Attempt to understand it. The Bible is like a science book and people like Miles understand it from Beginning to end. If you aren't an expert, it is very difficult to really comprehend, unless you TRY. How many times have we as individuals thought we were right, when really, we were so wrong?
