Great spot on Westside – If you have never been here, you must go. They have great items on the menu, but once you have been there 10 times you will be hoping for more options.
Great Ambience – It really is in a "nook." You would never expect to find such a great place where it's at. Food is great and the service was good. The group table in the middle of the restaurant is a little odd, but I guess that adds to the uniqueness of the restaurant.
Maybe someday... – The last time I tried to eat at Nook, our party of three walked in to an EMPTY restaurant, ready to spend money, and we were told we had to have a reservation. We said, "but there's no one here", but were declined.
Odd I thought, so tonight (four months later), I called well in advance to make a reservation, but was told I could NOT make a reservation over the phone and if I came in, I would have to wait.
So basically, I guess you have to go there, make a reservation at some point in your busy day, then go back later to eat. OR you can just go extra early and wait in line like the common folk who DON'T make reservations. Oh wait, that was me until I got so confused I decided to order pizza instead.
TOO MUCH HASSLE FOR CASUAL DINNER!!!!!
A lovely neighborhood bistro – I had read and heard wonderful things about Nook, and for once, I?m glad the compliments were warranted. As noted in the numerous reviews, Nook is located in a rather nondescript shopping center ? the only sign indicating the locale of the restaurant being a large blue arrow. Once inside, you are transported into a rather modern, cozy oasis where simple comfort foods reign. Service was friendly, informative and attentive. And most importantly, the food was well prepared from fresh, delicious ingredients.
My friend and I shared a plate of homemade french fries ? reminds me of In-n-Out fries but better and crispier, served with a yummy garlic aioli. For entrees, I tried the Chicken Paillard (chicken breast pounded flat, served atop garlicky mashed potatoes and sauteed rapini, with a lemon based sauce and capers) which was quite simple and delicious. My friend had the brown rice stir fried with veggies and tofu ? he apparently gets this every time so I guess he really really likes it! We shared a bottle of muscadet, that as promised, was very dry and crisp, and not sweet. It accompanied the food quite well. Dessert was the brownie with vanilla gelato ? perhaps I was too full, but the dessert didn?t wow me.
All in all, I really enjoyed this place and will have to return to taste the other lovely sounding offerings on the menu.  Prices were pretty affordable. There is parking in the shopping center.
Definitely a diamond in the rough – When I first heard about this restaurant, I was skeptical. Almost all of the reviews were quite favorable, so I had to try it out for myself. Finding this restaurant was a "mini adventure" in itself, it's on a busy Santa Monica Blvd and located in a mini-mall. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner, the big arrow indicates where the restaurant is. Upon entering the restaurant, you will be pleasantly surprised by it's decor, the interior looks like it should belong inside a boutique hotel or restaurant row in Beverly Hills. There are not a lot of tables, so the restaurant gets filled up quickly. When we got there all the tables were occupied, so we ate at the bar, which was fine. In addition to it's unlikely location, what makes this "hole in a wall" such a gem is the great food. My wife ordered the Caesar Salad and a side of sauteed brown rice, and I ordered from the "Small" section of the menu: Crispy Fried Calamari (w/ wasabi aioli), Kurobota Pork Belly and a side of fries. The fries came with garlic aioli, and it's not too crispy (which I like), it's seasoned with salt and parsley, one of the best fries I've ever had. The Fried Calamari was crispy and quite delectable, and my entree, the Pork Belly was in a word, superb. Dont be fooled by the "Small" label, the portions are quite the opposite. To finish the meal, my wife and I shared the Chocolate De Creme (infused with Brandy), which was quite good, not too overpowering. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this place. This is officially one of my favorite restaurants in LA. I told my wife: "We should definitely add this to our rotation". Oh, and by the way, the service was great too. If you read a negative review, dont listen to them...I'm picky about restaurants...you wont be disappointed.
What a yummy delight!! – I went to Nook for the first time a few weeks ago....and wow, what a great meal. The place is a little hard to find and it fills up quick. We ordered the ceasar salad (the best ceasar salad I have ever had), crab cakes (what tasty delights), and as an entree the ribs with smashed potatoes (so yummy and good old fashion comfort food). For dessert we had the bread pudding which was so warm and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place. What a great find!!
Tired of average overpriced food? – We came back to Nook bistro last night for the second time; it was as great as the first time.
This little place is definitely one of the best restaurants we have eaten in Los Angeles where 50% of the times are just about the looks, location and average overpriced food.
We had the clam chowder, calamari which is just amazing, a Cesar salad and the rib eye steak; everything was delicious and approached in a very creative and tasty way.
We are looking forward to coming back again and try different things on their menu, for now, we think is highly recommended even if there?s a wait involved.
OH SO YUMMY – Try the caesar salad...it's the best EVER! My boyfriend and I usually just get a bunch of appetizers and split them, so I'm not sure what the actual entres are like, but I'm sure they're tasty. This place gets packed between 8-9:30ish, so get here early or late if you don't want to wait. It's tucked in the back of a strip mall (in the "nook" of the strip mall!) so it's easy to miss...Such a great date place! It's home cooking like you haven't had before...Oh, try the savory bread pudding...YUM!!!
FABULOUS! – The lentil soup and Ceasar salad is AWESOME! It comes with toasty little capers! My hubby loves the NOOK BURGER! it is very small inside so we order to go and get a discount. Eating in, as well as waiting for the food to go, is a pleasure, the staff is wonderful and very friendly. YUMMY!!!
Great Neighborhood Restaurant – I love this place. I try something new everytime I go and have not been disappointed yet. I would recommend the bread pudding starter...the cheese and mushrooms melt in your mouth. If you order for "take-out" you get a discount. Either way you will be satisfied.
