Good food, terrible service – The food was very good. The service, as a couple of others have mentioned, is beyond terrible. The women do look absolutely miserable - the young woman was the friendliest, but no matter how much I smiled at the older woman, she just stared at me.
So okay, not everyone is 100% happy all the time... I was content to sit there and eat my food anyway. This was around 2:30 for their Sunday lunch buffet, which ends at 3:00. I have two full plates in front of me, and a young male adult puts a check down on my table and walks away.
... did I look like I was anywhere near done eating?
Maybe they were doing that to everyone - so I look around and everyone who has been there since I came has not received their checks. Just single, young, black, female me.
I took my time eating and when I was done I went up to pay. There were still at least seven other tables filled at this place, so it wasn't like I was lounging around. No one - out of the five or sit people standing behind the counter - made a move to assist me, and I was obviously confused about where to pay since I didn't see a register. Finally someone asked "can I help you?" and I said that I would like to pay.
The young Indian man who gave me my check took my debit card, but he turned it over and stared at the back of it for a good 15 seconds. Um... why was this necessary? He swiped it and handed me my receipt to sign. I finally asked "is there any reason why I got my check so early?" He played dumb and conversed with the older Indian man in their native language, and the older man turned and said "All I can say is I'm sorry."
Yeah, well I'm sorry I'll have to miss out on some good food because I don't feel like giving money to people who treat me differently for stupid reasons.
Like I said... terrible service. It doesn't really get much worse than paying someone to insult your humanity. I left a $3 tip (on a $12) tab anyway because I felt bad for the women.
Poor customer service – I have been a customer of Baba India for over a year and have enjoyed the quality of their food. However, the quality has taken a sharp decline over the last 3 months, and now the food is simply overpriced. One thing I've always avoided is dining in because the customer service is very poor. The service staff is not welcoming, inattentive, and prefer to hang in groups around the bar or at a big table in the restaurant talking to each other instead of waiting on customers. The decor has always been disappointing--it used to be a Hardee's restaurant and you can tell. In summary, although I would have recommended this restaurant for take-out a few months ago, I am now leaning toward not recommending this restaurant at all.
best chicken tikka saag! – Absolute great indian food, chicken tikka saag is divine and some of the chef specialties are also great. Don't go looking for atmospere or impeccable service, but great indian food for sure!!
Disappointing! – After having eaten many times at Baba's sister restaurant Ambar I expected this Baba to be just as good. I went on a weekday for the lunch buffet and the selection was dismal compared to other Indian restaurants I have been at, definitely not worth the price $9.95. There were just a few chicken dishes and some vegetables and a salad to choose from. The hostess and the women that waited on our table looked absolutely miserable and barely said two words. I noticed that there were no Indian people in the restaurant usually not a good sign, for a better buffet selection and value try Royal Taj in Anderson Township. Needless to say I won't be going back.
Great Indian Food – My husband and I were thrilled when one of the staff at Boca turned us on to this restaurant. We were bemoaning the menu change at Cumin and he told us to try Baba India. We loved it! Really excellent food (they also own Ambar in Clifton), wonderfully friendly staff. We have been there three times now and will be
going back very soon. Highly recommend this restaurant. If you are looking for "upscale interior" don't go, but do go if you want really good Indian food and excellent service.
Yum! – I am new to Indian food, but I fell in love after I tried take-out from this place! Especially the Korma! Great for carry-out! Only complaint that I can think of is that it can be difficult to place orders over the phone with some of the people's heavy accents and my horrible pronunciation, but that's really not a big deal, and I'm sure it's mostly my fault! This is becoming a regular place for me!
Baba is good – Baba has great food. I myself am a big fan of the chicken saag, a spinich based meal cooked with chicken. My gilfriend really enjoys the chicken tikka masala, I would recommend that as well. Buffet is also great, it lets us try new things to keep in mind of what we could order next time. It is also nice b/c it is only a block away from my house. Take your kids to broaden their horizons!
Adventure awaits! – Wonderful food! Although many people, myself included, are often afraid to try new foods you will be glad you did! Going for lunch is your best bet, they offer a great buffet or you can order a lunch portion off the menu. The food is spiced to order so tender mouths can handle it. The nan is fantastic and so are the various mango juice beverages!
