I absolutely love this place! – 5 stars! no questions asked! I eat here it feels like atleast once a week! Very clean! and i love the staff they are all very friendly.
If you come eat here make sure you try the crab cakes and the asparagus! yummmmeeee!
Since we live so close to Piatto's, this has always been our "go to" place for a nice Italian dinner close to home. In addition, many restaurants have struggled in this area (Royal Oaks) and we like to try and support them as best we can. So many have come and gone.
Recently we had family in town and wanted to take them out to eat. Since we all love Italian, Piatto was the place we took them. It had been a couple of month's since we had been there, but it has always been consistant with great food, thought it would be a good choice. Well, I must say we were a little disappointed. The service was just ok and the food was also just ok. What happened?? I always love the Lasagna and highly recomended it. Well, the portions were substantially smaller and the quality seemed to have slipped. It was almost like eating at a chain with pre-prepared frozen food. Although it tasted ok, It wasn't as good as it has always been, fresh and flavorful. I am sad to think that the economy has affected Piatto Royal Oaks. I can see why the service would slip as it is hard to get good wait staff if they are not making any money. Looks like Piatto may be heading to the fate of some other good restaurants that have closed in our area unless the neighborhood can support them and they can get the standards back to what they were.
Disapointment – Well, the name sounds Italian and the neighborhood would bring one to think it's great, but no. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, however the food is average. The bread and salad is wonderful, but the food was too salty and not seasoned as I would like. The service was less than average, even slow for 5pm on a Sunday. If I hadn't used a Groupon, I would have felt cheated. Probably will try something else nest time.
Finally impressed with what Houston has to offer! – My fiancé and I have been trying to find a good Italian restaurant here in Houston for some time that wasn't a large chain. We feel that we found a true gem!
The staff had great customer service, something lacking in most environments in Houston we've noticed sadly. We had a really prompt and efficient waiter and greeter. Clean atmosphere, not too many kids or drunken people.
And of course the food was amazing. Their famous appetizer of fried asparagus with crab was divine. I had the shrimp risotto which was so delicious I'm going there tonight and ordering the same thing!
A++ for food and service B- on dish presentation – I went to this restaurant a few years ago when they first opened. It was my birthday and two of my friends took me out. We ordered the asparagus with crab meat as an appetizer. I ordered the pork tenderloin and my two friends ordered various pasta dishes. We received great service from the minute we walked in the door.
The last time I went to visit was on a date. Once again i tried to the asparagus with crab meat and then i had a medium rare ribeye. My date ordered pork chops. Although the dish presentations could have been much better we once again received great service.
Now, i'm really weird when it comes to restaurants. Their food can be good or even great but if their bathrooms have a strange odor or dirty feeling then i wont eat there anymore. I figure, if their bathrooms are dirty and people go in there at max a rate of 4 times during a meal then their kitchen has to be clean, considering no one aside from staff is allowed in there. I am in the culinary field myself so it is very important to have a culmination of great food, service and atmosphere.
As far as my cons, the restaurant doesnt offer a "booth" option so your date may feel a little impersonal - as though the guy next to you is eaves dropping..
All in all. This is my favorite italian restaurant by far in the Westchase area.
Expecting More – My friend & I decided to try Piatto for the first time tonight. My friend had the Pasta Vento with a water & I had the Mezzaluna with an iced tea. We split the tiramisu for dessert. Our bill was about $42. My friend really liked the Pasta Vento; I thought the Mezzaluna was good but I was not in love with it. Mine was a little too heavy and I could not finish even half of my plate. The complimentary thinly sliced bread with herb butter was very good, especially the herb butter! The tiramisu was very good as well but not the best I've ever had. Service was good. Good restaurant but nothing too special. I think there are better Italian restaurants in Houston. I'd rate the entire experience a 7.5 out of 10.
Great Place To Make A Habit of Visiting! – So glad that Piatto is now also on the West side of town. Great Food - Great Service - Great Management. I have been there more than once and never disappointed. Finally got around to ordering the Lobster Ravioli and it was delicious. Lucky for me I saved a little room for a few bites of the bread pudding dessert! I'll be back . . . .. . .
Piatto Ristorante - Westheimer Location - GO NOW! – Fun decor and atmosphere - friendly and attentive staff - great management - GREAT FOOD! I have been there a few times now and have never been sorry. Ample portions and fair pricing. Try starting with the Asparagus with Crab Meat. You won't be sorry. All of the entrees I have tried so far were wonderful. And don't miss the dessert tray! Management makes it a point of remembering your visits and lets you know they appreciate your business - even if it is only a quick soup and salad night. Friday and Saturday nights can get full quickly but worth the wait. I'll keep going back and try to eat my way through some more of the menu choices.
Terrible Service – The food is good there, but they advertise that they deliver to far west Houston. The truth is they only deliver inside Royal Oaks subdivision. Not the same thing. A pity too. The food was good, but not good enough to need an armed guard. The manager explained that outside the subdivision was too much of a security risk for his employee. I won't be going back.
The second location of this casual Italian eatery remains focused on personal service and quality ingredients. – In Short
A festive atmosphere and heaping plates of the Carrabba's signature American-Italian classics draw a steady crowd of diners. Menu highlights include the signature asparagus appetizer, lightly breaded and pan-fried, topped with crab and lemon butter. Sample healthy grilled meats, baked sea bass with mango and avocado salsa, multi-layered lasagna Carrabba, stuffed shrimp and a variety of pizzas. Reasonably priced wine selections.
