fade out soon – ok so my friends and i go in there on a sat night and were expecting to have a wonderful time.We finally sat down and looked at the menu and not many things really struck me as unique or tantalizing. My husband and i travel alot and have found better choices at a hotdog stand in New York.I settled on chicken fried chicken and my hubby had the steak. The steak was super pricey for such a small portion and my chicken was very well done.I also noticed that many of the wines we ordered were not what we got.I saw this happen numerous times and after speaking to friends of mine this is their usual habit. We had a horrible server who was only saved by another one named Leslie. We did tell the manager who should probably make his singing just a shower event because trying to make this a delightful evening was impossible with his loud songs. There is only one stall to the bathrooms that was covered up by a piece of paper, which we all thought was tacky, and a horrible foul odor that surrounded the back tables and traveled into the main dining area. The final joke was when the chef came out not wearing a jacket or anything and completely looked as though she hadnt bathed in months. We were all hoping she would keep her distance .Thankfully she did.No one who worked there looked happy to be working there, and my guests noticed that all the 'good servers' were gone. After that who could blame them.Trying to stick it out to the end we all ordered desert and noticed while standing for the bathroom a busboy cleaning out the center of a store bought moonpie and another filing it with what I can only assume is someone elses recipe .I was hoping for some originality but until the moment we left we found none.I noticed that since this place has opened it has lost a star every year.I can only hope that soon it will fade itself out.Henderson is a great street with some great new restaurants, and this one doesnt belong here.

good atmosphere – Party of 6, we were seated next to the piano. hector was very nice and came to our table to greet us. The avocado appetizer, tuna tini were good. the chicken and waffle was horrible, too much thyme. all in all the food was average but with very high prices. we did ask for ketchup and it took 10min to get it because the waiter had to go the church's chicken to get some(which was nice). but then he started taking away our plates before we were done. he wasn't even paying attention while he was doing it.

Its easy to become a regular – Hector's is a classic restaurant - good food, friendly service, and an entertaining atmosphere. It is for people who want to enjoy themselves not impress others. Depending on my mood, I have enjoyed the sea bass or the hamburger. Sometimes I have a regular desert and sometimes I have the spinach salad for dessert. Its that kind of place, you can order what you want. Once my mother had the sweet potatoes as her entire entree. No one blinked an eye and she had a good time. You can tell I am a fan and I have been eating out several times a week for over thirty years. The fact that Hector comes to your table and actually cares whether you are having a good time is major.

Best for a Celebration – I love and recommend this restaurant. I try to get there every time I am in Dallas. Service was great from the moment I stepped out of the car. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The menu changes frequently so there are always new surprises. (I love the way they name the dishes; on my last visit I had Duck Duck Goose.) This time I had the Bouquet of Pheasant! I was hesitant because I pheasant can be dry, but this was delicious... moist and full of flavor. The creamed spinach was rich and delicious. I also loved the spinach salad. (You can never have enough spinach, right?!) The chef and the owner were both present and welcoming. Our server (Jesse) was attentive, knowledgeable and made great recommendations. Thanks, Jesse! The bartender makes the BEST Sapphire gimlets in Dallas. (And I have tried them all.) Loved it! Highly recommended.

abysmal – We had heard that this was similar to next door Hibiscus - nothing could be further from the truth.

We ordered meatloaf and the ribeye. The ribeye was way overcooked. The sides of creamed corn and crispy potatoes were average at best. To their credit -they did try to replace the steaks but we didn't have time. So they gave us free deserts. The deserts were not very good either. One was touted as being several patrons' "best desert they had ever eaten". This was the creme brulee in the candied apple. The creme brulee itself is ok, but the apple was impossible to eat - the candy coating was way too thick and hard. The bread pudding that we had was bland.

So, in conclusion, the food is mediocre at best. The service however was fairly good. Incidentally, the music was bad, but not too distracting.

Avoid it like the plague... – Very disappointing. I ordered the meatloaf entree and it was served cold (as in, chilled from the fridge) -- I had to send it back . The meat was gritty and the flavor was bland. The bacon that the meatloaf was wrapped in was not fully cooked. The order came with mashed potatoes and carrots. The mashed potatoes were swimming in truffle oil that tasted old. The carrots (all three of them) were barely cooked and had a Caro syrup flavor.

great choice for a birthday dinner – I went here with my mother for my 31st birthday. I'd never been here before and had heard good things. We made reservations via OpenTable and were greeted at the door by friendly staff. Our table was ready and that night, they had a pianist, a trumpeter and a singer. It was great! I ordered a Lemon Drop martini, which even decent bars can screw up, and it was perfect. My mom and I both had Hector's Salad, which was delicious and not at all heavy. We also both had the same entree: sea bass with white cheddar risotto in a lobster bisque sauce. To say that this was the best sea bass I've ever had is an understatement. I ate every bit of it, unabashedly! The owner, Hector, came to our table to chat during dinner. He made the rounds of the room and even sang a Christmas carol or two in the mike! Very festive. For dessert, we had the creme brulee which is served in hollowed out candied apple. Superb. Our waiter, John, was very friendly and knowledgeable and had a great personality. He seemed like he really liked his job. I will not hesistate to recommend Hector's to anyone (and have already) and will go back the first chance I get. If I had to list one drawback? It was a little warm in the dining room, but when you're packed to the gills like this place must always be, it's bound to be a little warm, huh? Easily one of the best meals I've had in Dallas in three years.

home cooking with a nouvelle american twist – if the black-eyed pea were a four-star restauarant...it would be hector's. we ordered four different entrees (meatloaf, sea bass, steak "stack" and lasagna) and all of them were delicious. the only hitch was some inconsistency in food temperature (a couple of dishes came out cold), but that was quickly rectified. save room for dessert - the moon pie is a "must try"!

Overrated – I was very excited to try this restaurant, but I was very disappointed. The foie gras lacked flavor. I had the sea bass which has been raved about on other reviews. However, the fish was not fresh and nothing could save it, not even the decent cheddar risotto served with it. My date had the crab and shrimp lasagne which sounded intriguing but would have tasted better with bottled ragu sauce. Very disappointing.

Awesome!! – "Naughty and Nice" Happy Hour is the best. A group of us went to hang out at the bar before dinner and the chef sent out amazing, free food. She does this for anyone drinking at the bar during happy hour. We couldn't believe it and the happy hour prices are good. It's even on Saturdays which is unheard of.

We then sat down for dinner and every bite just got better. The lamb appetizer and the lobster-filled avocado appetizer really set the tone. The bacon wrapped ribeye is better than most steakhouses, the new chicken and waffle is tremendous, and the grilled Mahi was perfect.

We shared a platter of desserts so we could sample a bunch. The apple creme brulee is great, but so is the moonpie and the bread pudding. All of this and live music just made it a great night. I continue to recommend this hidden jewel to anyone who will listen. It's the best.
