Stop hating! :) – I want to attempt to dismiss the first comment(6/24/06). Yes, the firehouse is very packed on the weekends...but that is because it's the only place to find such a unique, mature, yet very fun & positve crowd(ages 25-55). You get the professional, artsy, fashionista, hip-hop, rocker, etc. people). Sometimes the service is backed up-but that is only because it's not a place that pops off beer caps one after another. They truly have a unique, & always consistent menu of great tasting martinis, mango mojitos, sangria, wines, extensive beer selections, and impossible to find selections of top of the line liquors I have never found ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE CITY. It may take a few minutes to wait for a drink, but it's the only lounge that serves mixed drinks in PINT GLASSES!!! How could anyone complain about that??!!! The music is incredible. High energy for any age(Michael Jackson, reggae, 80's, house etc.). 2 separate DJs-projectors, one of a kind decor. I learned that this place was made by friends who refurbished & brought this place back to life from a historical fire station. This is not some ordinary IKEA commercial bar. The staff is small & very friendly if you give them a chance to get to know them individually. Spencer(owner), Alana, Asante, April, Hans, Erica-I wish I knew the others-but they are all genuine employees who will show ya a good time & make you some fabulous beverages. I know this sounds over the top, but I am not from this city originally & it's just such a comfortable and welcoming environment that has their best intention for their customers. I can go there alone & still feel comfortable. So whoever you hatin blogger are-have a drink & relax dude-you can't even spell "waste" correctly. But everyone else-Check it out!

BTW-any weeknight is low key. Weekends are kinda crazy-fun if you're up for it!

Far from par. – We visited on a Thursday night based on the rave reviews discovered on line. When we walked in, a live band was playing for about 10 people at a volume so loud that it was extremely hard to even give my drink order to the bartender. Upon receiving our drinks we proceed to the deck outside. There are about 3 or so couches, and a few tables with a decent bar on the deck. However, the plastic wall coverings, and tarps covering the DJ equipment made me feel like I was sitting behind my neighbors shed junk pile. In conclusion, the atmosphere was FAR from par. When the waitress came to take our order she promptly returned and told us that all the kitchen help had gone home for the night. I found this a bit odd when the internet site states that the kitchen is open till 12AM. I really dont see what people enjoy about this place. Dont waist your time here, there are FAR better lounges in Pittsburgh.

One hopes this place doesn't get TOO popular – The FH is a place to be appreciated, so this reviewer hopes it doesn't get measured against other local places - or even "hot" NY/LA bars. It's pretty unique. Between the 20-something gregarious Cuban bar manager and the 60-something cantakerous semi-retired Brooklyn chef there's a lot of excellence going on here in addition to attitude. Who gives a crap about celebrities showing up. Have some of Giovanni's appetizers and try the unbelieveable chocolate stout from Kalamazoo. The FH is creative in many ways. Just hope it doesn't get ruined by poseurs and kiddies out for "the scene".

THE BEST THING IN PITTSBURGH – It's so refreshing to know people haven't given up on Pittsburgh! The Firehouse has a little bit of everything to keep event the biggest critics interested. The music is phenomenal, crowd is diverse (usually more women than men), and everyone is sophisticated and polished. Even better, they make AMAZING martinis & Food. The outdoor terrace is my favorite place, I can't wait for it to open this summer! It's unfortunate that more bar/club owners don't follow suit (i.e. Be creative don't copy) afterall, the adjacent bars all look like ikea showrooms or Miami knockoffs. The Firehouse lounge is setting a trend that was forgotten many years ago, Pittsburgh is a progressive city so shouldn't the businesses reflect this? In my opinion, a great place for a 1st date, a nightout with the guys/girls, a quick bite before your bar crawl, seen & be seen (w/o the snobbery), or out-of-towners!

Finally Fantasia in the Strip – The only true "New York" experience in PIttsburgh. This is the only reason the strip district is still considered a hot spot in Pittsburgh! The decor is incredible, posh but not stuffy. The crowd is eclectic. And the music, regardles of the night of the week is way ahead of any trends. The best part of it all is that you have to be "in the know" to know about it. Unlike other "lounge" type bars in the city, the Firehouse is the only one that hasn't sold out to the masses, instead it stays afloat by being the best place for young professionals, artists, musicians, business owners, and who's who of the US. I saw 3 celebrites from LA in one night!

Cool lounge for the 'burgh – My wife is from Pittsburgh; we usually fly out from California for the holidays. Never been too impressed with the bar scene, but were thrilled to find Firehouse. Went on the Weds. after x-mas. Weren't too many people there, but then they hadn't even been open for two weeks. Once word gets out, this place will be packed. Nice, dark upstairs location with a red glow. It's clear they invested time and money into the design. Met one of the owners, Spenser. Both he and the bartender were very cool and friendly. And the drinks were excellent. My wife thought the Chocolate Mint martini was one of the best she's ever had, and the Strawberry Cheesecake martini was great, too (and should be added to the menu). If you like cool, upscale lounges, check this place out. Haven't anything else in Pittsburgh that comes close to the Firehouse.
