Definitely priced over value, would consider food quality average – The atmosphere at Nana's is a bit stark with minimal personality. Seated quickly because the last two times, lots of empty seats. A romantic hue, but not very 'warm'. The first time we went, I ordered a large cesear salad, which was what I would consider extremely 'soppy' (a wilted feel) with huge (and an overbearing number of) full-sized anchovies. I love cesears but this was a bit tough to stomach. My friend sent back her pork t-loin because it was fairly rare in the middle. Some seemed to enjoy but I didn't hear anyone going nuts over how much they liked anything. My husband sent back his steak too, too rare. The bill was huge. Satisfaction, not for those big bucks.

Second visit, tried to give it another shot, just decided we ordered the wrong thing maybe. The service seemed fine but with our larger party it all took forever. The shrimp appetizer was three larger shrimp and a potato cake, all average at best. I ordered a $33 beef tenderloin that was wonderful, but really shouldn't have had a NYC price, $25 would have served it's purpose. However, I'm not sure I even ate the sides, the menu had a fancy description, but below avg. I seriously cannot justify the price at this place as hard as we've tried to keep an open mind.

Positives? Downtown trendy location, a bit on the chic side (but again, not very warm or decorative), right across the street from a fun club (this would be the biggest draw for us in the future, but cocktails only), convenient valet, decent service, and an interesting wine cooler.

Negatives? Average food at much bigger city prices.

Unfortunately will try something else next time, not worth the high price tag. Lots of good stuff to choose from downtown!

Would not recommend for corporate events. – Event planner is inexperienced to handle any Corporate event. Final bill exceeded original agreed contract by more than $400.00. She was argumentative in nature in front of forty plus guests and showed no empathy or ability to resolve dispute satisfactorily. Evening Manager showed some interest in resolving the obvious error on his event coordinators part but after over one hour of discussion refused to make the proper adjustment. The food itself was excellent although service was incredibly slow. Wait staff were slow in taking the original order. The salad was the only item to arrive quickly. The entree was delayed by at least twenty minutes. Only half of the forty four person event was served first. Almost ten minutes later the other half received their order. The dessert order was again delayed by at least twenty minutes after the dinner plates were cleared. Although wine was included per agreement each guest had to repeatedly ask for a glass. Coffee was also expected but it only arrived fifteen minutes after dessert was finished and only after repeated requests.

Nanas owner needs to review their corporate events policies and TRAIN their Managers so that they clearly understand their responsibilty to the customer. What a shame to ruin a fine event with such inexperienced persons. There are many other fine restaurants in Raleigh that have provided many years of impeccable service. I would recommend using other establishments until the owner can provide the proper training and direct assistance in setting up corporate events.

Best Avoided! This is not a fine dining restaurant! – I had heard for a couple of years ago what a great restaurant that Scott Howell had created. I went in for a second time (first time in two years). It seems that he hasn't been involved since soon after they opened. Bad for Nana's Chophouse! The lofty reviews that I had read were all written while he was there. They should change the name! This is not the level of excellence that I always expect from his restaurant. It's misleading to still be "Nana's".

As far as this visit, We were seated very quickly. This was probably because it was empty. The server, although attentive didn't seem very polished. The food arrived promptly and was average good. Regrettably the price was not average! The wine list was very nice although I had a few questions about the wines. A nice young manager was sent by. The only problem he knew next to nothing about the wines. One excellent ending point were the desserts. They were some of the most beautiful desserts in the area. Scott Howell Call your pastry Chef home to Durham!

The ending is that although this is a beautiful restaurant you be better to skip this one in pursuit of the miriad of great resaurants in the area.

AWESOME FOOD!!!! – This is a meat lover's paradise. Everything was beautifully presented. The beef carpaccio appetizer was excellent.. The beef was sliced so thin that it practically melted in my mouth. I had the veal chop which was huge. It was cooked to perfection and was super tender and very full of flavor. My date had the ribeye which was also huge and absolutely delicious. For those complaining about the price, go to Outback. This is a very nice restaurant with prices comparable to any of the high end restaurants downtown. I will definitely dine there again. The wine room is cool. It remided me of the wine room at Emrill's in New Olreans.

Very Disappointing! – After the hostess uncorked the expensive bottle of wine we brought to the restaurant, she did not offer us the usual taste test and proceeded to pour the wine in our glasses and spilled it on the table. In addition, our waitress was not very friendly. She did not introduce herself and we did not feel like a valued customer. Lastly, the food was very average. I was quite disappointed with the mahi-mahi and steak.

Knowledgable server, good atmosphere, okay steaks – I wasn't blown away by the ribeyes that we ordered, but the truffle mashed potatoes, the fried oyesters, and the wine and cheese selection were impressive. We took advantage of a $15 corkage charge and brought one of our own bottles of wine, only to see that they have an excellent selection of their own. Our waiter was very attentive (it helped that we were the 2nd table to be sat on a Wednesday night). I also noticed that the bar area was spacious....a good spot to catch a drink if you end up having to wait a bit for your table.

With a gorgeous dining room, spot-on service and impeccable food, this restaurant draws crowds to downtown Raleigh. – In Short
Nana's dining room manages to be lovely with little effort--exposed brick walls, soft beige paper-shade lights and cushy leather booths provide a chic space for lingering over dinner. The bar area is large and upscale, but it's the floor-to-ceiling wine room that truly deserves your attention. The roasted Portabella mushroom carpaccio with artichokes makes a fine starter--each bite promises a burst of lightly salted, tangy flavor.

You will never no, until you GO!! – I had the pleasure of dining at Nana's Chophouse with in the past few weeks. My experience was everything that I had hope for. We were greeted warmly by the Complementary Valet, and then again by the hostess staff. We enjoyed a few beverages at the bar which has a great contemporary feel and a great patio with live music. The cilantro margarita and Peach Bellini Martini were highlights of the bar. We moved to the dining room which has a Chicago feel, a beautiful room. The service was excellent with a very knowledgable server with excellent wine and food recommendations. The smoked pork chop was the best I have ever had. Our evening finished with a visit from the manager who once again thanked us for coming, and a fabulous desert. Worth every dime!! I can't wait to back.

A dining experience – Nana's provides a knowledgable wait staff and excellent cuisine. The atmosphere is contemporary and the bar area feels like a European side walk cafe. The managment is very visable and makes sure your meal is a dining experience. Try the basil gelato, a desert treat.

Overpriced – While the food was good and service excellent, I thought it was very pricey for the meal received. If I'm going to pay that kind of money there are other Raleigh restaurants that I would choose, rather than Nana's Chophouse.
