Best Bartenders, super cheap food – I moved to the neighborhood about two years ago and had been on a search for the perfect "local," you know, where everybody knows your name, and their always glad you came? Too many places in the LES try sooo hard to have a scene. Epstein's looks a first glance a bit sports bar-ish for my taste, but half the time after the games are over they rock skate videos on the big screen, or late night I've even been able to watch Jon Stewart! The bartenders are all really fun people, the drinks aren't fancy, but they do the trick. The food is great, consitent, and so cheap compared to anywhere else in Manhattan. I can always count on this place to start or end my night, or to bring all my friends (from all walks of life) to as my default location. Search is over, LOCAL has been found. Make it your local too...you will not regret it.
friday happy hour rocks – i went to epstein's on a friday the place was hopping the outside cafe was packed the bar was full and the jukebox was kicking out great tunes. me and my friends finallly got a table and had the burgers and wings alll excellent. the service was a little slow but who cares at the prices they have it's worth the wait.
sundays it's the place to be – my friend invited me to a bar called epstein's last sunday to watch the giant game, he explained to me that the bar was named after juan epstein from welcome back kotter? anyway the place is really cool two tv's all windows right on the corner of allen and stanton. great place to watch people go by while sitting outside. They have a 2 for 1 burger special on sundays with$2 bloody mary's and mimosas which you can't beat especially since the burger are incredibly delicious. the staff was cool and the place had a great vibe.
Super Shady – Me and 2 friends went here for the 2-for-1 dinner night -- a steal by any standard. But we were blown away when we got a bill that charged us $80. They charged us $8 for each budweiser! the only menu they gave us had the monday prices which were $3 for a bud. so when we spoke to the waitress she said they have differenet prices on tuesdays AND charge an additional $1 per drink if you're sitting outside... but failed to inform us of this when we were ordering and it's no where on the menu. She took the bill to the manager and took some of it off but the misrepresentation of their prices is appaling.
Best Burgers in the City – The burgers are fresh, large, juicy and inexpensive. I like to come here on a lazy Sunday and sit outside with some friends, burgers and beers. Good times to be had. It's definitely got a SoCal vibe, with skaters, surfer-types and bike boys hanging out during the day. the only complaint that I have is that sometimes on weekends it can get packed with UES transplants slumming it in the LES. I mean, seriously, take off your ties, boys. The staff is super friendly, the food is awesome and the vibe is chill. But please, I beg you, take off the pearls, girls.
Don't Eat Here! – I've only been here once - my FOOD WAS TERRIBLE and so was the rest of my party's food. Items are not as they are described on the menu, the quality is poor and pretty boring, and the menu is OVERPRICED for what it is. When asked if something could be sent back, I was refused and told that I would be charged regardless of what the complaint was. The waiter, in fact, aregued with me and made a scene. Service is SLOW and RUDE. Perhaps this is a fine place to drink beer, but DON'T EAT HERE.
Rip Off! – This is my first time rating a bar. The experience was so disappointing, I had to rate it.
Don't ever start a tab here. Pay as you go. We started a tab and all went well in the beginning; the bartender was nice, the food was great and it was a great place to mingle and watch sports. Until the bill came. First of all, we were charged $35 for one drink consisting of cranberry and rum that was an error on the bartender. Secondly, a non-alcoholic drink was charged 5 times (for $25) when only one person (out of 10) had the non-alcoholic drink twice. When we gave the bartender the bill, he passed it on to the manager and then the bartender acted cold towards us and as if he didn't know anything. My first thoughts were "Why would the bartender hand the bill to the manager when he wouldn't have a clue on what drinks we had?" and "Why would the manager take the bill into the kitchen away from anyone's view? " Well, the manager took our original bill, went into the kitchen for several minutes to rewrite the whole bill over minus the $35 charge for one drink but allocated $10 to the non-alcoholic drink (confirming my opinion that they are biased towards non-alcoholic drinkers) and another 10 bucks elsewhere because there was only a $15 difference in our new bill. Of course there's no sense in arguing about the bill because it's our word against theirs since our original bill miraculously disappeared but in the end they lost some great clients for $35 and any other drinks we didn't order. It's too bad their burgers were good but definitely not worth getting ripped off for.
awesome burgers and beer – awesome burgers. some of the best in the city. Great cheap food, fast service, but above all an amazing burger. Try the Epstein's Ale.
Watery margaritas, okay burgers for the price, but not worth the trip if you don't live in the LES. – Look, I NEVER ever send drinks back, I am actually a woose when it comes to sending back something that is not done well but when BOTH mine and my man's margaritas were watery (we're not talkin' low in just tequila, but low in margarita mix too), we were highly disappointed from the start. Sadly, we had come all the way from Harlem to check this place out and so we stuck it out for the 2-for-1 burgers...which, when it came to only $3.50/each, seemed like a fair deal...not a great deal as these burgers weren't "out of this world" or as great as other reviewers made them out to be, but they were descent for the price and came with fries...not even Epstein's can ruin fries, so I was satisfied (hunger-wise), but as I should have assumed, this place is mainly for the beer...guiness on tap is a hopeful sign for a "next time", if in fact I find myself hungry enough on a Sunday in the LES, otherwise, I will not make an effort to get down there just for this bar's jutebox and flat screen entertainment. My final word: If you're in the area and only have to walk a few blocks, it's a good deal for a satisfying amount of food and stick to the beers you know can't be loused up, otherwise, stick to your neighborhood bar.
Perfect corner spot! Awesome food, etc. – I LOVE this place. I don't know why, but the house salad is so amazing I crave it. I always get chicken and feta cheese added to it. The burgers are probably the best I've had in the city. Quality, good price, toasty bun. Amazing.
And there's nothing better then 25 cent wings on Monday nights. We go with our buddies, perhaps watch the yankees, and there's always good people around.
Awesome local spot.
Great at night too if you're not looking to go wild max fish style.
