Disappointing Customer Service – I was at the Carl Steaks in lower nyc on thursday..where I ordered my sandwich. I gave the young lady cashier $20. for a meal that cost $7.65.
I was given $2.65 back, change of $10. I told the cashier her mistake and she preceded to tally up her draw while other lunch time working customers came in and had to wait. When she was done...She informed me that her draw was $5 SHORT. She didn't give me my $10. She told me I should call the police..and they could tally the draw. I needed to return to work, So I did not do so. I can say I had just came from the bank and only had $20 bills...
To all cheesesteak lovers be careful at that store. The food was delivered quickly, but not as good as I would have liked. Overall a unsatisfying experience.
Poor aloof customer service – Ok. So what can you say about minimum wage staff? Can one expect at least a little bit of professionalism? Service is inconsistent; sometimes they are fast, sometimes they are slow. Speed is not a desirable quality here. The food, although generous, does not taste good. The meat is poorly seasoned, or not at all. I went there twice trying to get food, when they were busy and slow, and in both occassions the staff did not attend to or their other customers. I won't give the place a ninth chance. What is the point? It is my fault after three poor experiences. I would only recommend coming here if you have time and are on a budget.
Lunch Spot – So I don't have any experience with the original Philly Cheese Steaks from Pat's or Geno's but I would imagine that they would be better than what Carl's was serving up. It was not bad by any standard however for almost 10 bucks and the title as the "best philly cheese steak in NY" you would expect a little more quality. The meat was on the dry side and the exterior of the bun was a little soggy, but that may have been from poor wrapping technique. The works came with onions, peppers of the sweet, green and hot variety and mushrooms. The veggies were tasty and overall I would give the sadwich a 6.5 on a scale of 10. A respectable lunch stop but by no means a must have.
okay. – I ordered a whiz and american steak here because they claim to be authentic to the philly steak. The hoagie roll was right but the meat was a little dry and also skimpy. The fried onions were still crunchy and they gave me the whiz on the side in a cup! I spread it on the roll anyways. The taste was similar, but by no means authentic. It seems i'll just have to not eat cheesesteaks in nyc anymore and just wait to go home.
Worst service in the city – This is a mail that I sent to Carls on 17th Oct. To date, has gone unanswered:
Last night I ordered a meal on line using carlstogo at 7.21pm. When my food finally arrived at 8.20pm, the order was wrong in three ways. The was only 1 fries, not 2 that were ordered, instead of steak in the sandwiches, there was chicken, and instead of ginger ale, there was sprite. On noticing this, I called your store ((212) 696-5336) who informed me that they would resend my correct meal to me. Your store also said that 'they were very busy' - implied the fact that the order was incorrect was some how my problem, and that fixing my order was a big hassle to him. I waited for my correct order to arrive. When it had not shown up at 9.50, I called the store again and spoke to the same person. The man asked me to tell him what I had organically ordered - it was at this point that I realized that he had done nothing to get me a replacement meal, and had not contacted me to inform me of this. He had not made any effort to call me, despite my information being in the carlstogo site. It was at this point that I decided that I no longer wanted to wait for my food as it could take upwards of an hour to arrive.
The about treatment was total unacceptable in my view. I had paid cash for my original meal, not been able to eat it as it and was treated very poorly by your staff. I want to know what you intend to do about this treatment before I tell everyone I know about it. Not only did this incident leave me hungry, it also would not encourage me to either order from Carls again or deal with any member of your very rude staff in the future. I was not treated like a paying customer by the person on the phone in Carls, instead I was treated as dirt. Your customer service is the worst in the city, and in a city where there is so much competition, I can only assume that you do not care enough about your business to either hire the right people, or train them correctly.
Quick and good lunch – This is a great lunch spot for something quick and good. It is small, but there is plenty of room to move around. I have also ordered dinners from them when I am stuck at the office. Quick delivery service, and excellent fries! Definately recommended.
Who needs to go Philly? – Oh my goodness. I was sitting in my office facing the often dreaded decision of what to eat for lunch. So i just went to City Search and looked up restaurants by me. The first place i saw was Carl's Steaks and I am so glad it was. The food is excellent and it was delivered in under half an hour. I will be a repeat customer.
Editorial Review – Philly cheeseteaks with grilled sirloin steak, cheese and onions on a hoagie; additional sandwich options, beer and chili also available.
