Come for the Lebanese, stay for the hookah – Nibble on the mezze plate (extra kibbeh likely a must), indulge in a schawarma dripping with rich and complexly flavored juices, top off with a thick, velvety black Lebanese coffee; then, when your palate can almost take no more pleasure, order a hookah packed to the brim with a creative and quality tobacco. Sit back and let the conversation flow with delicate puffs for another hour. In what feels like an instant, an entire evening has passed. You've made new friends, learned the secrets of old ones and go home with that unexplainable grin that great food sets in and a little hookah high further ingrains.
Mary'z is family owned and distinctly Lebanese. Expect to embrace the culture that makes the food authentic and delicious. This entails taking your time to enjoy yourself, no one will be rushed here and yes, you *will* have to ask for the check, as is standard protocol in the rest of the world. Chat with the staff as much as you like but do not expect them to handhold you through your experience. If they do not like you, the probably will not dote on you. A glimpse of their parking lot on any given Friday night will tell you that they are not hurting for your business. That said, if you are ready to enjoy Mary'z, Mary'z is ready to give you a good time.
Horrible Service... – I have been here several times and it never fails, they always have bad service. But today was extra special, they ignored us extra long and they even accused us of not paying the tab. If the rude waitress would have lifted the receipt she would have seem the money underneath the tab instead of coming after us and accusing us of not paying! Very embarrassing. She never brought us the tab, we got it ourselves after waiting forever, but she sure did run after us quick when she thought we didn't pay. Frankly, we shouldn't have! I thought I would give that place another try, again, but I am definitely over that. I wish the service was better, we did like the food.
the perfect hookah experience – This is prolly the best hookah bar you will find in the houston area. They are all really nice people, they dont give you problems. They always check id's, which makes is calm and quite without teenagers. They have more flavors then anywhere else. This was the first place i tried labanese food, and i fell in love with certain items. They have a big screen tv outside displaying football/basketball/baseball games. The music isn't too loud, making it enjoyable.
i just recommend never going to cafe layal or freedom hookah!
Well, they didn't "always" check IDs and were actually shut down for a few weeks last year due to serving tobacco to the under aged. Needless to see, the teenagers have slowly been filtered out. I actually kind of miss the people watching. Teens are amusing...in small doses.
The Best – If you truly want good mediterranean food - This is the place. I love mediterranean food and I am a bit of a snob when it comes to this type of cuisine. I have been to other more popular mediterranean restaurants in Houston and there is no comparison. The staff is wonderful and charming- GREAT DINING EXPERIENCE.
Great food!!! – We had a great leisurely meal with our friends! Started out with the Mezza appetizer combination which was almost a meal in itself for 4 people. Everything was great! We then were then steered towards the tenderloin and chicken kabobs. The meat wasn't jsut tender but was explosion of flavors. In addition the sesame sauce that comes with the tenderloin kabob's was a nice addition. We ended the meal with baklava was afitting end to a great meal. We will be back!
Mary'z is Z best! – Highlights:
1. Ida, our waitress, took excellent care of us by arranging a sampler menu throughout our entire meal. 2. Ida greeted us, sat us, served us and dismissed us all with a smile - service is much improved compared to early posting's, for sure. 3. "The Baba Ghannoughe was very smoky and the best I ever had. I normally don't like it! " 4. Moist, tender and flavorful all describe the beef and chicken. 5. Excellent value considering the feast and variety of food we enjoyed. 6. Atmosphere was nice and not too loud, so carrying on a conversation was easy! 7. Plenty of tables and roomy. Nice covered outside deck when weather permits. 8. "Having been there previously I was pleasantly surprised, marked improvements." 9. Very attentive service, sound advice by Ida on quantity and style. 10. Exceptionally good value for overall wholesome and healthy food. 11. The chicken was so tender and moist, I thought I was eating marshmallows: Best chicken I have eaten in a long time. 12. I enjoyed everything on the table: All was scrumpdillyicious! 13. A definite repeat.
1. The Baba Ghannoughe was very smoky and appeared to be the least favorite dish on our table.
2. Didn't realize they served Lebanese coffee until after we left the restaurant. It is on the take away menu, but not the restaurant's main menu. Bummer!? 3. The temperature was a bit on the cold side initially, but corrected. 4. "I ate too much! " This experience was so good, we had Mary'z cater a business lunch for around 20 people. Again, a very good experience and our lunch guests were very pleased.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this great review, its a pleasure for us to please our customer and to treat them like loyalty, once again, thank you and hope to see you soon!
GREAT LEBANESE FOOD - BUT - SERVICE IS HORRENDOUS! – We were at Mary'z today for lunch - probably our 8th time back, inspite of consistent poor service. We keep going back for the great hummus, superb falafel, lovely sandwiches, etc. HOWEVER, the service today was worse than usual so I am compelled to warn others. The waitress (whom I believe is the owner or the owner's daughter) didn't check on us but instead was surfing the net. We sat on the patio, so everytime we needed something we had to get up and walk into the restaurant to ask her for something - and then it took forever for us to get what we needed. It's just too bad, because the food is so good but the service leaves SO MUCH TO BE DESIRED. Please, please improve because we want to come back!
Thank you for letting us know about your experience and we are very happy to see you coming back even you had poor service, but we promise that we are going to improve and make your visit to Mary'z more enjoyable; Once again, sorry and hope to see you soon.
Authentic, family-owned Lebanese restaurant on the Richmond strip converts into a sexy hookah hangout after dark. – In Short
The dining room has only a few tables, but the atmosphere is casual and warm. The menu promises fresh-made and authentic Lebanese and Mediterranean dishes including hummus, baba ghanoush, Greek salad and tender black-eyed beans. Falafel, shawarma and kabob are served as sandwiches or platters with an addictive garlic sauce. Outside, the spacious, covered patio turns into a smoke-shrouded party scene most evenings as groups of 20-somethings alternately puff on their hookah and scan the crowd of singles.
Worst Service I have ever had, beyond disappointing – (I signed up to CitySearch just to tell people about this) When we arrived, no one greeted us and we had to flag down our own waitress (something that continued every time we needed anything). She had no apparent will to explain to us what one of the dishes was, so we ordered frozen mango, a sampler plate, and a hookah (between 3 of us). The hookah and platter came out quickly, but no mango. We asked multiple people about it, but never received it. Our water glasses sat empty, and our hookah coals turned to ash. We tried to get a check, which we only received after asking several times. Each time someone set something on our table, there was no eye contact or speaking; they just set it down and walked away. The wait staff failed to seem to care about us throughout our entire visit, and on our bill we found out why - the tip was included. An attempt to talk to someone about this went about as well as the rest of the service, and we ended up paying an additional $3 tip for the worst service (or lack thereof) I have ever received in my life. I learned my lesson - please learn from it as well.
Best Lebanese in town! Best Lamb shawarma ever! – My wife and I discovered this place during lunch one day. We realize that Houston has over 70 different cultures, 9,000 restaurants and our tongue has over 10,000 taste buds, and this place has the best Lebanese food we have ever tasted. Go there, Eat there, and enjoy it. You will come back for more. What's good there? we've had almost everything and everything we've had is great!
