Saved by Grace! – Although I live in Manhattan, I never mind making the trek to Bayridge to have Sylvana (who is no longer there *tear*) or Grace take care of my hair. After trying several high-end salons in the city, all of which failed miserably, I branched out to the boroughs and found Lush.
My hair is fairly thin and long, slightly wavy and very difficult to cut. But after highlights, glazing, and a cut with Grace I always get compliments. The highlights are even and natural and I love the glazing technique that gives me incredible volume. My poor hair was literally saved by Grace and now, I'm hooked on Lush.
I WILL GO BACK – i was very happy with everything.my color and hair cut is what i showed my girl in a picture. and the people were so friendly. and now it so much better for me to get my hair done on sundays ask for Grace
Never went back.. – I had my highlights ruined at my usual place. I didn't feel like going back and dealing with the guy who did my hair or hearing him tell me how great it looked, like he did when I walked out, when it was horrid nor did I trust him. I looked at reviews and went to this place. The salon was totally empty and I had the owner charge me 60 dollars to put on a TONER..that's right not even a dye, over the highlights. All I wanted was my brown hair back, so at that point I didn't question him and let him do it. He put it on, walked away and I never saw him again lol. Great service. The toner washed out in a few weeks and I was left with brassy hair once again. I never went back needless to say. I have to add there is no lighting whatsoever in the place so how am I supposed to know what the color looks like?
Nothing to write home about. – I went to Lush a few years ago. Completely overpriced for the quality and skill level of staff. Don’t waste your money.
HELEN-great cut, perfect color – Helen has been cutting my hair for a couple years now. I always come back! I have long curly hair with mixed texture and she does miracles with it. She has a great sense of shape/form for a person's face. I can go for months between cuts, the shape is so well balanced. I usually don't color, but wanted to for my sister's wedding. We talked about it and she got exactly the color I was thinking of on the first try! Plus it looked completely natural with my skin tone. THANKS HELEN!
GREAT PLACE!! – I went to lush for the first time after reading this page, i finally love my hair!!! the place is so pretty and the girls are so sweet! thanks so much to my new hair dresser grace
HUGE disappointment – I am not a negative person "looking to vent," rather I'm just a girl with an opinion. I went to Lush twice, both times my hair was done by Grace. The first time I went for a cut and color. The cut was OK but the color was horrible, it wasn't the shade I requested, many of my grey hairs weren't covered and the color washed out after just a month (about $140 for the cut & color). I was happy with the cut so the next time I went back, I decided to skip color. I had taken the time to explain to Grace what I wanted. The issue was more about the length than a specific cut or look. She repeated to me my request and I was satisfied that she understood what I was requesting. Once my hair was cut I was seriously upset. It was significantly shorter than I had requested, was she just not paying attention? Yes, the receptionists are friendly, and yes they offer you a complimentary beverage, but don't be fooled...this place isn't impressive where it counts- with the results. It's full of neighborhood women who have probably been coming to this place since it opened- so clearly the women of Bay Ridge are happy. It just didn't do it for me...I'll have to continue the search.
go to Lush – I recently moved from Bay Ridge to Manhattan and now I have to come all the way back just to have my hair done at Lush. It's annoying. But I really only trust Eric with my highlights and Grace and Helen with the cut. The last Manhattan lady I trusted with my hair made it actually look like hay. It was so bad I left work early. Helen immediately recognized the cut from the early 90's. She said it was called "the christmas tree" among hair style enthusiasts. Luckily, there was enough left to work with, so she somehow pulled off something very cute and updated, and Eric fixed the stripes the Manhattan lady left all over my head. And I got so many compliments! Even my boss liked my hair. I like Lush. Those other people are stupid.
I'll never go anywhere else! – I live in the neighborhood and have gone to several salons here. This place is, hands down, the best. First, when you call to make an appointment, the receptionists are always friendly and eager to help match you with the best stylist if it's your first time. When you arrive, you are greeted by smiles, great decor, and a complimentary refreshment. The stylists listen to what you want, and offer helpful suggestions if what you want might not work (they are trained professionals, after all). Whether I've gone in for a cut to help tame my once long, curly hair, or to get it all chopped off for a sleek new look, I've never walked out dissappointed. (Note: I've actually cried walking out of another salon, which will remain anonymous!). My stylist even said to come back the next day if I wasn't happy with my cut (my recent cut was a drastic change). This is what pros are supposed to do! If you are not happy, they will fix it... all you have to do is speak up. I am surprised by the negative posts left on here, as I have never been unsatisfied. Perhaps their whole story is not being told, or it's simply a character flaw. Regardless, don't be daunted by the negative souls out there looking to vent. If you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for? Great prices, great service, great atmosphere. Who needs to go to the city?
FANTASTIC SALON! – I've lived in Bay Ridge for over 3 years now and passed this place like a hundred times. I was previously going to a nearby salon until they completely screwed my color up. So....I decided to give Lush a try. I am soooo happy I did. Eric did my color and did an amazing job. What I liked about him most is that he LISTENED to me, unlike many other stylists. They even served me a delicious cappucino for free! I cant wait to go back.
