Horrible food, exhorbitant prices: what a mess... – I haven't been to Blu 47 in over a year. I went with my husband for our weekly date night and it was awful from beginning to end. From the valet that reeked of alcohol, to the empty lobby that we stood in for 10 minutes, to the wine delivered in snifters... I could go on and on, but the worst part of the evening was the food. Let me be clear, the food has always been mediocre. However, what we were served tonight was HORRIBLE. The cut of meat I was served was 70% fat covered in BBQ sauce. Pure blubber on the plate, served with a straight face as if it were edible. My husband ordered a cobb salad that is intended to be served as a layered stack of vegetables. Regrettably, it was a random pile that fell into a mess before it hit the table (our server: "oops! sorry about that!"). The salad contained frozen peas, ranch dressing that was clearly squeezed out of a bottle, the lowest grade bacon available, soggy red peppers, and limp carrots. The food was so bad that by the time I was offered desert, I inquired whether it was prepared in house. I was RELIEVED to hear the answer was "no" (I assumed it would be the highlight of the meal). Unfortunately, my cheesecake came out drizzled in chocolate sauce (the kind you by at a supermarket and squirt into children's milk to make it chocolate milk).
I should have taken a cue from the other patrons, who had drinks and shared a single appetizer at the table. If you decide to go to this restaurant for live music on Thursday nights, eat beforehand, sit in the lounge area, order a martini, and enjoy the wonderful music. That's pretty much all this sadly devolving restaurant has left to offer. Our tab for the evening was $118.00 + tip and it felt like a good deal more like charity than a meal at a reputable restaurant.
Great Environment... – Great ambience. Live jazz. Dress to impress. Enjoy socializing, eating and drinking. I love the environment. It's small and intimate, but the food (which was the main reason I was there) was not the greatest. The menu is small, and there wasn't much for me to choose from that looked appetizing. For the pricetag and the environment, the menu is overrated.
Blue 47, Food 0 – I've been to all of Daryl's spots and as usual the decor was appropriate for the place. I must say this time as far as food quality or taste I should say I was not impressed as I normally am with Blue 47's food. The food was just not up to par with location. Someone watered down the liquor stash, because I drink with no chaser and for some reason both the drinks I had and the people I with all seemed to include chasers. I will give it another try, all places have off nights. I hoping my next trip is better for the business sake and mine.
Always a Fan...1
Great customer service – I've been to Blu 47 twice, once on a Thursday for the jazz band, and once on a Friday night, both right after work. Both nights were fabulous! The wait staff was attentive, and the food was great. The lounge is a great place to chill, catch up, and hear great music. Definitely go check it out.............
Terrible service, wouldn't visit again – After arriving at 7:30pm for dinner, we added our names to the hostess' seating list and prepared for a 1.5 hour wait. We walked from the lounge to the hostess table every 45 minutes to check on our dinner seating time. At 9pm, the hostess smiled and unbelievably told us that since no one was getting up from their tables, we would have to wait an additional 1.5 hours to eat DINNER!!!!!!!! She was very unapologetic, and seemed to be gloating, since the restaurant was full. Service and treatment were atrocious. My friends and I left immediately, and I will never plan an outing at Blu47 again.
Cool, contemporary Bronzeville restaurant serves New American cuisine with Southern flair. – The Scene
Powder-blue walls and crisp white linens offset by dark wood floors and sleek mahogany-stained chairs lend a clean, contemporary vibe to this upscale setting. A wraparound bar anchors the L-shaped room furnished with comfortably spaced tables; banquette seating lines the perimeter. Attentive servers cater to dressed-to-impress ladies-night groups, families and couples chatting over the jazzy music.
Contemporary twists on Southern favorites star in this new American menu. Appetizers include grilled chicken "lollipops" drizzled with pesto aioli, and plump crab cakes with tangy remoulade. Melt-in-your-mouth braised shortrib in smoky chipotle barbecue sauce is a favorite entree, as is the raisin and walnut-stuffed chicken breast with creamy gorgonzola sauce. Another winner, bayou catfish stuffed with creole-spiced crab meat is tender and flavorful, but similar in flavor to the crab cakes: One or the other may be in order for variety. Decadent desserts like the triple chocolate cake offer a sweet, satisfying finish.
Blu 47 the best place to eat – My family wanted to eat some where in the area where we lived and heard about this place with good food. When I walked in I fell in love with Blu 47 and I still hadn't eaten yet. The SERVICE was great. Now about the food at Blu 47 this has to be the best food I have ever eaten that all I can say. If you want great food and service go to Blu 47 you will want to keep going back and back and back . ...:)
Nice Bronzeville Restaurant!!! – The Ambience is great. I love the decor. The food is great. I will be back again. Next I will bring my parents, they will love it.
