They're delicious! – My friend lives in the area so we decided to keep it local. I see everyone wrote about the gouda mac and cheese....its true, its delicious. I was skeptical at first but I ordered it with my buttermilk fried chicken which was also yummy. I would go back here just for the gouda mac. I also like that you can sit outdoors in the backyard area...It was drizzling and I still liked sitting out there lol. It was good comfort food.
Feel right at home. – Decided to go here for my first dining experience since moving to Brooklyn and was quite pleased. Took my wife and a few friends and really enjoyed our time there. The sevice is very good and the quality of food is wonderful. My favorite aspect was the atmosphere (close quarters and cozy). Started with the baked brie and a nice pinot grigio and finished with a bottle of Malbec. I recommend the swordfish with bell pepper sauce. Having never tried swordfish, I was very impressed with the level of flavor. The waiters aren't pushy and make sure you feel right at home.
Overall great place – This place is very charming and homey. The food is great and prices are low, staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Overall I would say its like a Manhattan type brunch cafe, only with Brooklyn prices
judging from past reviews, I was really surprised by how well our lunch went there. Post gym, we went on a weekday afternoon. Our waitress was a little standoffish and slow (despite the place being quite empty). My pork sandwich came out really well, juicy, tender. the yucca fries that came along with it were pretty good. SO's burger was delish. Took home the gouda mac and cheese...and oh my! It's really good. We left pretty happy campers.I'm glad we went for their best meal, which apparently is lunch.
Very good – I saw this restaurant on "on the road the Al Roker" my daughter lives in Brooklyn, so we had to go there. the restaurant was very nice, food was good, prices weren't to bad. the service was good. The sweet potato fries were great. this is the first time we were in that part of Brooklyn, very pretty. I would go back again.
I can't stop thinking about it!!! – macaroni and cheese. MACARONI AND CHEESE. i walk by every day on my way home from the subway, and the aroma of smoked gouda with crispy cheddar sprinkled on top makes me bash my head into the window and yell "gimme gimme gimme!!!!!!!!" i've sampled the other stuff......brunch is pretty good.......mushroom soup is delish....but good god i just can't stop thinking about this MACARONI AND CHEESE. must go microwave leftovers....
Mosey on over and try it out! – So there are 2 (maybe 3) good restaurants in Ditmas Park. This is one of them. When it's butt-ass cold outside and I'm too lazy to drag my lethargic self out at around 9, I stumble upon the realization that YOU CAN ORDER ONLINE! AND IT'S THERE IN 30 MINUTES!! I mean, it's lazy... but really wonderful. Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese. Seriously. I sh*t you not... THE best mac and cheese I've ever had. It's 4 bucks. So if you hate the rest of your meal, you won't hate yourself as long as you've added this little golden nugget onto your order. Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese. It disguises itself as a "side dish," but once it comes out... you will see why I sometimes just order this by itself with another side of broccoli or something. The burgers are pretty nice too. Oh! Brunch? Black Bean and Smoked Gouda Quesadilla. Again, seriously. Maybe I have an untamed love of smoked Gouda, but this place has taken advantage of it. At the end of the meal, add on an order of their totally orgasmic homemade Banana Pudding. If you live in the neighborhood it is a must. If not, mosey on over here and try it out when you're checking out your friend's new (huge cheap) apartment........... SMOKED GOUDA MAC AND CHEESE!!!!
Excellent specials – Please have specials more often. Specials selection was excellent today!
Great service and wonderful food. – Best spot in NYC for food, family and friends: After watching a favorable review on the Food Network Channel series, "Al Roker on the Road", my husband and I drove from Delaware to Brooklyn on Tuesday 6/12/07 to visit family and have dinner at the Picket Fence. Upon arrival to the restaurant, our waitstaff, Brian, Scott and Robin were charming and friendly. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had a pleasurable dining experience. Our starters, scungilli and watercress salad with warm goat cheese set the stage for an elegant yet appetizing meal. The scungilli was oh so tender with a honey pepper dipping sauce. This was a great match for a cool but tangy watercress salad with tart slivers of green apple. Our main courses broiled scallops and skirt steak were well seasoned and robust with unique flavors. The vegetables were garden fresh and brightly seasoned. The big finish to this wonderful meal was the big banana pudding dessert and the walnut cheese cake. My husband and I are happy that this gem of a restaurant seems to sparkle with great service and wonderful food.
Friendly waitstaff – MSLNYC_Simply put, I love having brunch at this place especially during the warm season. In a nutshell, it's a no brainer! Brunch is simply delicious, no matter what you pick as a special... price is fair and friendly waitstaff willing to accomodate you any which way they can to make your dining experience memorable. I could go on and on about this place but what's the point, just go see for yourself.
