Something Different – It was quite different from the other bars around. The design, the lights, the music - It was all very relaxing. We've arrived pretty early and later on it became mor party-oriented... Had a couple of Vodka sour and became dizzy. The rest of the evening is vague... :)
Rather be at BIG BROWN FISH & PAY LAKE – omg what can i say this place was horrible not only does it smell but all the chicks have a di ck, and i love a good co ck but only when its on a nice man. the drinks were so bad that i could even taste the mickeys that were being placed inside by those bad boys, and i'm not one to complain about mickys just don't wanna taste them thats all. there was a ferret downstairs and i don't mean the coat check guy it stunk. i would never in my life recommend this place to a friend maybe to an a-hole.
trust me, you don't want to go here! – My friends and I went to Vapor one Friday night because a friend of a friend was having a birthday party. A few days prior I had looked up the place on CitySearch and read all the poor reviews, which made me pretty skeptical but I went nonetheless. How bad could it be, right? UMM WRONG! This place is absolutely the most ridiculous, cheesiest, waste-of-space (and booze!) hole in the wall I have ever been to in Manhattan. Not only did the doorman almost FORCE us to pay for the $40 "all you can drink" (umm right) bracelet, but when we got to the bar and ordered our drinks of TWO vodka sodas (which the awful wretch of a bartender made with well liqour anyways!) it came to $39! Now, my friends and I are by no means cheap but we are not made out of money either. My friend who ordered the drinks was hesitant but put down her credit card to pay and guess what- they DON'T EVEN TAKE CREDIT CARDS. Now, maybe I'm wrong here or do things a little differently being a 23 yo girl, but I DEFINITELY do not go out at night with hundreds of dollars in my pocket. The bartender, however, was not amused and before we could ask where the nearest atm was, she literally snatched the drinks FROM OUT OF OUR HANDS! One of my guy friends, who DOES carry a lot of cash, then ordered TWO beers and TWO vodka sodas and it came to $64. Now, I usually go to places like the Gansevoort and the W so I know how expensive it is to go out in Manhattan, but this place was just INSANE (esp for what you get and the COMPELTE DUMP that it is). The bartenders were awful, the drinks that we DID drink were incredibly weak and the atmosphere was dirty and just plain CHEESY! In fact, I wasn't even a member of this site until today and I only joined bc I was so infuriated. Like someone said in a past review, I can't even believe this place stays in business. It is by far the worst place I've EVER been to in Manhattan. Trust me people, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!
Criminal Owner – Wow. I am in disbelief at how the owner of this place has not been sued several times over. I was in attendance at the aformentioned party and I cannot believe how horribly we were treated. Not only were we screwed out of having any private space, but what the previous reviewer did not mention was how nearly impossible it was to get a drink after paying $80 a couple for an "open bar." The only thing that was open about it was the fact that the place wasn't closed down for the night. One would think that for $80 for a top shelf 3 hour open bar that service would be quick and efficent so that we would at least get somewhat if not all of our money's worth. Yeah...... well it took about 1/2 an hour to get a single drink, if you were lucky and didn't give up. I got two, count 'em two, drinks the whole night! 80 dollars for two drinks! It seemed as if the bartender was intentionally ignoring the people who paid for the open bar so that he could make more money off of those who were not affilliated and paying per drink, tip etc. This was absolutely criminal, especailly after we were promised a private room and bar. Neither of which happened. Vapor, you owe me several rounds. Oh, and on top of this aparently open bar means you can't get any liquor without ice, I guess they were scared we would drink too much if we could have non-watered down booze...... not too likely when they can't manage to get you more than a couple drinks over 3 hours. Is there even a private downstairs, or was that just a con to get us to the place and take our money? I should've just paid per drink, would've been slightly more worth it. Wouldn't be surprised if the owner lands in jail for fraud one of these days. Oh also, the place itself was incredibly cheesey inside, looked like a cheap teen disco; however the staff had the attitude as if it was the hottest club in town. Napolionic complex, I think so.
Worst Managers Ever – What can be said about Vapor Lounge that hasn't already been said about the Holocaust? Very little. We were supposed to have a private party in the downstairs area and, when we got there, they told us that the downstairs area was flooded. Fine. They gave us a back room without our own bar and told us that we would just have to order drinks from the main bar. Fine. After an hour of our party (50+ people) deal ing with this subpar situation, the owner, Mark, decides to start selling tables in our private area. Let's all try to wrap our heads around this. He gave us that back area as a compromise because he couldn't fulfill his side of the agreement and an hour later is telling people in our group to get up and move so that Gino, Rocco, and Vinny from Hackensack can have a table with their bottle of Grey Goose and mack on all the B&T trash that followed their scent of Brut and meatballs into the place. That this place calls itself a club is absurdity in it's purest, richest form, although I am not laughing. When the party organizer got on the phone with the owner (who wasn't actually at his precious little lounge), the owner basically told us that he didn't care about the deal we had made and kept telling us what a great deal we were getting. Look, buddy, sharing a substandard private area with a cross section of New Jersey and Staten Island is NEVER a good deal. You could be pouring Dom Perignon down my throat as I feast on truffles and foie gras with Victoria's Secret models and it would STILL be a bad time if those greasy guidos were sharing my company. My anger last night was all-consuming. Mike Tyson himself would not have been able to understand the wrath that brewed in my skull, for I was not in the mood to bite ears or rip the heads of pigeons, but rather more in the mood of launching nuclear weapons in indiscriminate directions. I hope that everyone associated with Vapor burns while their parents and children watch, alone, crying, and helpless.
Private Party Fiasco - VAPOR – My friend had a private party at vapor - what a waste. We asked for her party at the door, and they immediately charged us $10 dollars, telling us the private party was in the back. After finding no one, I asked the bartender, who then told me the party was in their space next door. We moved to the front, and asked for refund the money our group JUST gave to enter since we were on the guest list next door. After arguing for 5 min about misrepresentation, how they lied to us to get us in, we finally got our cash back... there's more - when I got the party space, my friend really needed water, I went to the bartender, and he REFUSED to give me water, said he would only sell bottled water. Ridiculous situation, more arguing, for what-water? Service like this is never worth it.
Like it – This place is really great and different. I went there on Saturday night. The decor blows you away, you almost feel like you're in a different world. The music was awesome and they have a drinks menu unlike any i've ever seen before. Their martinis were amazing! The place was busy and the atmosphere was fun! The perfect place to spend a night out.
Birthday Party – Called around to a bunch of lounges for my birthday party and Vapor was the only
one that would let me book a table/section for my friends without a hassle and/or a minimum. It was really busy when we got there but we were still given a great table to celebrate my 25th. They had a DJ who really got the crowd going and we ended up staying longer than planned. Thank you.
User review by parqueke – I have been in NYC for many years, and I can honestly say this was one of the worst bars I have been to. It starts with the ridiculous $10 cover at the door. And then continues to be $12 a drink...$12 a drink is OK if the bar has a hot scene, but this place had no business charging $12. Beware - when you use your credit card, the bar automatically adds on a 20% tip! Crazy!
There is a small back area that has some couches, nothing special at all. In order to go back there though, they make you check your coat for $4!!!!
Overall the bar was terrible. The scene was very young and it reminded of the places back home that are 21 to drink and 18 to party. Save your money.
Midtown club decked out in colored lights and mist. – In Short
Plenty of bars with visions of grandeur offer sleek bottle service tables. At Vapor, those tables emit a fine mist and LED lights in walls pulse colors from pink to blue, keeping time with thumping Top 40 hits. A typical after-work crew takes over the two-floor space for specialty cocktail happy hour, while a flashier nighttime clientele vies to lay claim to a brightly lit, all-white VIP section that puts big spenders on display.
