Not very nice – Service terrible and inconsistant, never the same bartendender so not very personalized. I heard there is a very high turnover with staff. The managers seem to be outside smoking all the time, very offputting. Many other bars in the area with friendlier staff, won't darken that doorstep.
wow! unexpectedly great! – First off, great interior design - modern, but comfortable pub-like environment. Also, its huge. Saturday night, the downstairs was completely different than the lo-key vibe upstairs....wander down the stairs and its Karaoke time!!! It was probably the best karaoke we've experienced in new york. Everyone was having a blast, and the drinks were so affordable - seriously $20 for 3 drinks in NY is unheard of.This was one of the greatest evenings we've had in a long time! Worth at least passing through for a once-over if you're in the area. You might end up staying for the fun :). Oh yeah, the food, particularly the sweet potato fries, are HUGE, cheap and fantastic!!!!!
High priced drinks, low grade service .. cmon down to Stout! – THE GOOD: Big space, near Penn Station.
THE BAD : This bar is owned by the folks who own Amity Hall.
THE UGLY: The professionalism of the management. WATCH YOUR BILL!!! Had a good time at Amity Hall (sister bar to Stout) on my bday and noticed by bill was about 3X what it should have been. Didn't make a stink about it at the time because i didn't want to make a scene at my own party. Figured I'll just get it straightened out after the fact with the manger / owner, right? Wrong! The owner couldn't have been more indifferent about the discrepancy when claiming they would get on it and call me back. Went a week without hearing from her. She had no problem telling me i was "sh*t faced" (which i wasn't) and basically letting me know my concerns were meaningless to her. Funny bc they weren't meaningless to me. She loved to tell me how they run 8 different locations and practically making me feel about 1 inch tall because my dispute was a big nothing to her in a the grand scheme of things for their business. Wow, great bedside manner to a customer.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't be polite and figure out the dispute later because they won't be polite and respectful to you.
Lunchtime Perfection – Just steps from Herald Square, this seems like the perfect little spot for an hour lunch with a co-worker or friend in town. Considering the location, their lunch prices are not outrageous. I had a salad with beets and I can't remember what else but it was so yummy and I could not finish it - large portions.
The waitress checked on us several times as we dined and reminisced about the past couple of months.
I have been here before for an after-work happy hour and it was delightful. The hostess accomodated our request to have a table for 5 after it was originally just my fiance and I. We ordered craft beers and had some appetizers while watching one of their large, really large screen TVs. With multiple floors and lots of seating, I'd say this is an ideal sit down dinner restaurant for passers by and locals looking for a chill place to eat, drink and watch some sports!
awesome food! – A bunch of my friends and I went here lastnight before and after the Tom Petty concert, we got a table right away on the balcony. Really cool considering there were 10 of us! We ordered a bunch of pizzas and some appetizers which came out really quickly. The spinach and artichoke dip was particularly good big chunks of artichoke and a good cheese flavor, not like the soupy version i've had other places. The pizzas were super thin crust, and had some great toppings- we even tried a Rueben pizza! The service was outstanding, very quick and attentive... it was a really great experience...and we even got to watch a Tom Petty dvd there :)
Stout-Outstanding! – A gem of a restaurant. I work in the area and have visitied Stout on several occassions. Great specials on the menu daily. The only thing that exceeds the food is the wait and management staff. Courteous and professional. A waitress, Kim, was exceptional. I inquired recently about private parties. Stout has a room downstairs that is perfect for such an event. Was given a tour of the room by one of the managers. Don't know her name. Blond haired woman with an Irish accent. She was wonderful and gave a brilliant tour! Thank you Stout. Will recommend you to friends and co-workers.
Best bar/restaurant in midtown – Have been going there every Friday for lunch for about 2 years, always a great time with excellent specials huge selection of beer and of course the staff.
My brother in law wanted to have a party close to Penn Station I
recommended Stout he couldn't have been happier, his exact words "one of the best parties I ever had"
World Cup USA v England Game – Was meeting a bunch of friends on Saturday for the USA game. I was runing late, had not been to Stout before would of prefered to watch it in my local pub. Got in the door and was greeted right away by an Irish lady (love the accent) who walked me in the direction of my friends reservation. The place was already buzzing with USA and England fans and tv"s everywhere. The server was also very friendly and quick concidering the place was packed. I ordered a Breakfast wrap which was yummy. I was not drinking that day but was impressed by there very large beer selection. Overall I had a great time and will be back again.
Best on the West(side) – I stopped by here last week on the way to Penn (and missed 2 trains because I stayed so long!!) My friend and I wanted to grab a bite before catching a train. We were sat upstairs so we could watch the baseball AND the NBA playoffs. Someone sitting nearby requested the hockey on another tv so we were able to watch ALL 3. We ate a couple of burgers i had the shrimp and crabmeat burger-mmm-you NEED to try this one! My buddy ate a regular burger and our waitress suggested some toppings, I think he had bleu cheese and sauteed onions, he ate every last bit so it must have been good. They had a great selection of beers and stouts. Our waitress was very sweet and even let us try 2 different beers before deciding. We hung out for a couple of hours and had a quick beer down at the bar before heading out. All in all it was a very pleasant experience, I just couldnt believe this place had been here 5 yrs and I hadnt been before!
Good Food, Good Beers, Big & Tv's – I personally like the convenient location when meeting for a game/concert or if friends are coming from/going to NJ. It might not be the best as a stop when going out for the night (since I dont go out in this area ever/often).
While the bar area can get packed before events, you can usually get table service from a pack of quick & friendly servers.
I think the food is excellent, in particular the pizza is tasty.
The beer selection is wide and will meet most tastes.
The prices on shots are reasonable and the bartenders didn't mind making strange shots we requested.
I havent watched many games there, but there are TV's all over the place and I imagine it would be a good place to watch.
