Justin is Fabulous!! – Where would I be without her? She has been cutting my hair for years now and every time she listens to me, gives professional service and a great haircut. Tate is the owner and a cool guy, the staff is edgy and easy-going, creating a fun atmosphere in the salon.
I highly recommend this salon and I highly recommend Justin.
21 Years and Counting! – Tate' has been cutting my family's hair for 21 years now. Yes, 21 years. Me, my son, my ex-husband and now my partner all go to him when things start getting a little shaggy, so he must be doing something right. And yes, we pay him! ;^)
The entire staff at flux is friendly and professional with very little turn-over, which is unusual in a salon and I think speaks very highly for the culture they have there.
We're a family of fuss-budgets, especially my son, who is very particular about his hair -- He travels a lot overseas and has actually waited to come back home for a cut.
Tate' does a great job with curly hair too, which is important because not everyone has the skills to do that. We all highly recommend everyone at Flux!
FLux salon is moving locations – Flux Salon is moving march 1st 2010 to a new spot

great place, super cool hairstylists! – for the longest time I just went to hair salons that were close to where i live, therefore they consisted on great clips (well only once) and some others. Lets just say, the atmosphere was dull and hair stylists never had anything to say! BUT a few months ago a friend of mine recommended Flux, at Flux it has a lively atmosphere and fun staff :). Since its in a hip city/residential type area the feeling is so much more alive than the portland suburbs. I love going to get a hair cut now, when before I dreaded having to sit in a chair for about 40 minutes having an awkward conversion with the hair stylist.
Thank you so much Flux for allowing me to enjoy getting a haircut again :)
always great hair, great people – After a few years of disapointing stylist, bad haircuts and hair cut so short to cover an error that I finaly gave up. I have now been seeing Mark for about 7 years and not once have I stepped out of the salon with a hair cut/style that I diddnt like. All the staff at Flux are easy to talk to, friendly and knowledgeable...Mark you are the best...
This comes form one Brit to another...take care you guys..
So happy! And have been for 5 years! – I love this Salon! I go to the owner Tate (pronounced Tah-Tay), and he is one of the best hairdressers I have ever been to! He has been my hairdresser for nearly 5 years now. I have a LOT of hair and its pretty wavy so I dont always have luck with hairdressers because there are only so many good DO's that can be DONE on me.
Tate opened me up to new cuts, new tools and does fabulous color! I feel totally at ease with him and trust him completely. I have recommended several clients of mine to him and they have all been happy as well. Tate has been doing hair a long time and he is such a nice guy to boot!
His prices are also really reasonable and I can always find parking out front of the salon. Tate is the MAN!
the best – I have been seeing Tate for over 10 years now. I love his artistic stylings. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Flux Salon is a warm and friendly place with a lot of fun banter, and talented stylists! Tate..you are the BEST... I mean that.
Disappointed in staff – I was a client of Tate' for several years and was quite pleased with the thermal straightening (not so much with the hair cuts)...Until, he "fried" my hair one day.
I was very forgiving as he did his best to make it up to me with free haircuts and products until my broken hair grew out. I thought it was good customer service on his part.
When my hair finally grew out he asked Mark to thermal straighten my hair because Mark is a "supposed" expert and Tatay said he was no longer comfortable doing thermal straightening.
The problem happened when Mark called to set up an appt. and I returned his call but received voicemail, so I left a message. In the message I was very nice but asked if he was planning on using scalp protection on my scalp prior to the thermal straightening (as I learned this was why my hair burned off). He never called me back but Tate' did. He relayed the message for Mark that he no longer wanted to straighten my hair because he felt I was uncomfortable with his skills since I questioned if he would use scalp protection or not which made him uncomfortable. I was floored!! I asked one simple question in a very pleasant manner and this made him uncomfortable? Aren't we supposed to ask questions prior to services we receive to make sure we're on the same page? Or is the real reason because he doesn't use scalp protection (risky) so he no longer wanted to do it and instead gave me an accusatory excuse?
I was very disappointed in Tate's defense of this excuse instead of being straight forward and trying to make me feel like I did something wrong for asking a question. I just thought it was handled very poorly.
Bottom line: Beware of Thermal Straightenings in this salon. Do your homework. I now get proper Thermal straightening at another salon.
hey there G. i am still sorry about this. as i told you two years ago when this happened and was using a new product to me, Your hair breakage had nothing to do with basing your scalp. you are talking about a different product that uses base, this one did not.
and the one that i originally used did not use a base wither. i am glad you are getting it done and are very happy. i am surprised about the "not so much with the hair cuts" comment if i was so bad why did you come to me for several years? and why did you not say anything? waiting two years to make a comment like this is sad, and i am confused about your words, i was not rude to you and i never defended mark in a rude way, it is not my style. You wanted me to say that the product i used was like the one you were telling me about. it was not, and i told you that. in the end i am sorry this happened and i am sorry i was unable to make amends to you.
Liz is the best!!!! – Liz was recommended to me by a good friend who has seen her for awhile now. My appointment was yesterday. I cut off 14 inches of hair for donation to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I went from super long to super short!
I had lots of questions for Liz about cuts and color that would suit my face shape and my coloring. She took the time to listen and really get to know what I was looking for. I have never had a stylist just take that much time to talk about what we were going to do.
Liz was very patient, calm, encouraging and very skilled! I am absolutely thrilled with the results and already made an appointment with her to go back.
This salon is not uptight at all. It is very comfortable and everyone that works there is very friendly and knowledgeable.
When it came time to pay the bill I was surprised at the great price! Especially for all the work she did.
I cannot recommend Flux Salon or Liz enough. They are absolutely fantastic!!!
Tate rocks the light fantastic! – Way back before Flux was born, Tate's mad styling skills kept me following him to salons across P-town. When Flux became a permanent site for Tate, I knew my days of traveling far and near were over: I could count on finding him at the same location (Bless you, Tate!!). Flux is the BEST.
