This Place is a Scam – I have been in the kitchen personally, and will tell you that nothing about this place is "all-natural." They stopped purchasing their meats from Maverick ranch over a year ago, and continue to advertise it so they are able to charge their higher food prices (this relayed to me personally, with a laugh, by the owner). Ask the owner to show you even ONE package/order from Maverick- I promise they will not be able to produce anything. Their meats are mostly Oscar Mayer. They pay their employees (managers included) under the table- all cash. The place is sloppily run with illegals in the kitchen and ill presented servers in the front of house. These owners are scam artists and should be exposed for the fraud that they represent.
Best Booldy Mary in Denver after a late night...The Bloody Mona, served by people who care enough to learn your name... – I first stopped in at the 15st Mona's to grab a quick breakfast after first arriving in Denver months ago. I contue to go back time and time again not just for the food, but for the atmosphere. On an early Tuesday monring you may see businessmen enjoying Huevos while quightly chatting about the accompnying laptop display.
Stop in for brunch, as I often do after a morning marathon of email, and youll find Mothers and cildren meeting friends for playdates, enjoying a cup of Chi (my personal faorate) with there Crab Cake Florentine.
The entire time, not five minitues pass without a waitress or barista politely asking, pushing, nealy beging you to take more coffe...refilling your water...asking you about your morning. People dont go to Mona's to eat, they go to feel loved, to feel at home and to meet friends.
On weekends I generally sit at the bar to avoid the obligitaory wait for a table. Thats right, in a time when people are "cuttinging back", Saturdays and Sundays usually entail a wait to be seated...for breakfast. I've spoke to locals stopping in before going grocery shooping for the day, a couple dropping by for an eary bite before going to pick out a wedding dress, and countless others who make this place there first on there list before starting a weekend adventure.
There's not much more you can say about a place than that.
raw food, cold food, tastless food, bad service... – i have been in the service industry a very long time as a server and manager so i understand and forgive a lot. but the list grew to long to forgive or to try to have understanding. first off i would like to say that the place was not busy at all. so here is the list of complants and you can judge if you would like to eat here.
i had a diners card and was treated very rude the second i pulled it out.
the server forgot the cream, after asking him twice, i asked someone else.
i asked the server if he liked the sausage or bacon better, he said sausage, i ordered it.
the sausage was cold and i don't know what kind it was but i don't think it was pork. maybe tofu... chicken... turkey...gross is what it was...
the potatoes were cold and flavorless
i am not sure how anyone can mess up wheat toast but they did! it was hard as a rock, and cold.
(some how even though everything else was cold my eggs were warm... weird!)
the waiter checked up on us once and was very aloof. no smile...
he dropped off the check with out taking the proper amount off (diners card)
the orange french toast had no orange taste at all
after a bite of french toast i noticed it was raw.
i sat a very long time before i told someone walking by, not my server, we never saw him again.
they took it away with out really saying much.
she then came back by and took the proper amount off the bill, and a drink.
left the place still hungry.
if you would like my opinion they need to clean house and get new staff all together. front and back of house! the atmosphere is great... they would have a good thing if they found employees who cared. there is this thing called work ethic... i hope they find some!
Cozy, friendly and delicious! – My family and I have been going to Mona's since it opened. We just had some guests in town and they asked if there was a breakfast place we could all walk to. Of course we thought of your restaurant right away. When we got there the waitress suggested a booth by the chalkboards which entertained our two little ones. Nice.
Our friends each ordered the eggs benedict which they loved because of the chipoltle seasoned sauce which they found to be a different twist on the dish. Our waitress was very attentive and started up a conversation with our guest when she heard they were visiting from Washington DC. (apparently she lived there at one time). It's always great to have friends enjoy your favorite eating spots. I just wanted to let you know since I've never written about you but appreciate your restaurant so much. Keep it up!
All Around Great Food – I've never had a bad meal at Mona's at either the 15th Street or Broadway location. The burger is simply fantastic. The first one I ever had I ordered as a take-out and it didn't make it near my home -- I devoured it in my car almost immediately. The brisket also is fantastic. My favorite meal is probably the Huevos Rancheros, served on a crispy, crumbly empanada-like tortilla. My kids love the pancakes with a chocolate chip face. The portion is large enough where there are leftovers for me to scarf after I've finished my meal. Speaking of kids, Mona's is a very family-friendly restaurant that far exceeds other places where you can bring your kids for breakfast or lunch.
Best omelets in town, organic meats and eggs – I have eaten breakfast at Mona's about once a week for over two years. I like this restaurant because they use good ingredients, and have delicious recipes. Their omelets, burritos, and huevos rancheros are well crafted and the potatoes are some type of twice cooked flavor bombs. The staff is casual and unpretentious, so if you come across as pretentious then you will probably get what you consider bad service. I have been in there on a weekend when the staff was overwhelmed, but I forgave them because that happens to small businesses sometimes. I appreciate that this place has brought new ideas to breakfast, and I hope Denver continues to support these innovative mom and pop's because we need more of them.
Best Breakfast in Denver! – By far the best breakfast in denver! All natural eggs, steak and chicken, the ingredients alone are far better than any restaurant serving breakfast in town. The lunch offerings are tremendous. Try the tuna melt or the all-natural brisket, they spend three days making it! Mona's also serves breakfast all day! Don't miss this gem of a restaurant. Great for kids, they have chalk boards to draw on and the service is friendly and quick.
Wish you luck - because you will need it – If I could have done this review with zero stars, I would have. I just had one of the worse experiences at a restaurant I have ever had. We arrived at 10:40 this morning at Mona's for brunch, we were told a 35 minute wait - finally were seated after an hour and 10 minutes. I realize that you can't predict table turnover, but when we inquired after 40 minutes we were told 5 more minutes (hostess knew at that point that tables were not moving.) After we were seated we ordered immediately. Our drinks came right away, well the first cup of coffee came right away, the waitress never got back to the table to fill it up a second time. Our food was cooked right away - I know because I could see it sitting under the heat lamps on the pickup stand for 20 minutes. Other waitresses kept moving it around but ours never managed to make it to the pick up station. After 20 minutes another waitress picked it up and brought it to our table, she asked if we needed anything else, by that time I had felt the food - stone cold. I said yes I would have liked "hot food" she immediately grabbed my plate and starting walking away. I asked her to wait and said all three meals were cold (by now we had felt all three, which wasn't hard because you could see the congealed cheese on the cheeseburger and the solid grease on the bacon). She asked what I wanted in a snotty way, I replied just the bill for our drinks since I was tired of waiting. She left and our original waitress came back and instead of apologing told us to "get out". Needless to say not only did we get out but we won't be going back. Last year this was one of our favorite places to have brunch, the quality of the food and service has continued to slip this year, I kept hoping it would come back up, but no more, that's it for us. I wish anyone who wants to try Mona's good luck, but I wouldn't expect too much.
HORRIBLE. – This has got to be the most pathetic place in Denver. They should be ashamed to even call this a restaurand in a city full of great restaurants. Service was the worst I ever had. Anywhere! Our waitress was so, either high or hungover, or both that she could barely talk. She kept floppong her greasy hair around. GROSS! Didn't even know the Soup of the day, and even worse, wouldn't even go ask.
We all had the French Onion Soup, and not one bowl was the cheese melted. My sandwich was so small and dried out that I had to order another meal. And after she had to ask twice what I ordered, still got it wrong. Really, it is not that hard.
My advice, that server should go back to...well, and the people who run that place should just give up and let someone that actually knows what they are doing to take over the space. Cuz that is the only thing that place has going for it!
Horrible Service, Didn't even get to the food! – I am writing in response to Jason Shehan's glowing review about Mona's on Broadway in Westword. I really trust Shehan's opinion but this time I don't know if he got it right. I tried it before and had a totally opposite experience and wanted readers to know that it's not all so great. Unfortunately I was not seated after an hour of waiting. There were a few tables already seated who were not getting served and actually got up and left, or just paid for their drinks and left before eating. That being said, I was never offered a table and too left, never getting to try the supposed amazing breakfast. When I left the manager said something to the effect of, "I can seat you now," and when I responded with a "no thanks" he stuck his head out the door and shouted "Thanks for nothing! We love you too!" Based soley on this, I do not recommend this restaurant to any one, ever.
