AMAZING!!!!! – A couple of my friends and i wanted somewhere fun to go for after our senior prom, and this place sounded the best.
So we went last night to get a feel for it, and it was one HELL of a good felling! Right as we walked up these two gay guys started telling how us much we were GONNA love it, and they were right! The Drag Show(my 1st one) was some of the MOST fun ive ever had! And the hostess, Deeception(i think thats how its spelled) was a-fcking-mazing!! Loved her!! The other girls were also great! And the dance floor was a little empty at first, but after the 11 oclock show ended it filled up quick. The music was GREAT and so easy to dance to. If your underage, dont go expecting to get drunk just because they have a full bar. The give you a VERY bright "Under 21" bracelet, and most people wont buy you drinks! lol But it was PLENTY fun without the alcohol! All in All, one of the best experinences of my life!! Can't wait to go back prom night!!! :D
only if you like techo/house mixes for dancing – Every song sounded exactly like the one before and songs that should NEVER be given a house beat, were. No. Just no.
I love dancing to a song, picking out the nuances etc, but with these mixes one song can't be distinguished from the one before and even my favorites were homogenized and made no longer danceable. Very frustrating.
Over Priced/Under rated. HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT!! – The past 10 ten years or so I have been to a far share of gay clubs around the country and i can honestly say i have had the WORST experience at play. There's a nice new dance floor and its physical building is decent that's the only positive thing i can say. But who ever runs/owns play "Dance" Club REALLY needs to consider a MASSIVE staff overhaul. The staff act like this is a Real ritzy high end kind of place And its FAR from such thing. Walking around yelling orders and such. How would you have fun in a place where people are so Uptight?!? I was over charged one of the bars and decided to speak with the manger. He is a lil guy on a HIGH horse and even BIGGER POWER TRIP. He has NO respect for anyone & walks around with an arrogant (im 25 and beautiful) attitude and would rather flirt with clients (whom are NOT interested in him) when he should be working. He basically told me if i did not like the way his club runs then i should leave..So i did..This was a couple Friday's ago. I suggest steering clear of him He's in his 40's with short dark hair super "snooty" looking. He was the last straw. I will NEVER return to this club after being treated so horrible. In fact I plan to voice my experience with a real manager or owner. A guy like that should NOT be running a club or anything for that matter! WATCH OUT @ THIS PLACE EVERYONE....It needs to be under new management AND staff Or just closed down FOR GOOD.
Need a REAL club in Nashville – High cover charge, Drinks are overpriced, in small plastic cups. I would recomend free soda for the D Driver, $3 for a small .50 amount of soda deters them from wanting to go. The show we saw was ok I guess but alot of just walking around and taking money, not really performing. Mostly full of tweeners and straight girls wanting to make fashion statements. It seems to be the Vandy crowd's hangout since they can get in under 21. Becareful, a few friends of ours have been charged $25 on their card even if they only purchashed one drink, is the automatic charge for running a tab, unfortunately they dont share that with you prior to charging your card. I went opening wkend, and again recently and I was not impressed either times. At least Tribe has a pleasant environment, I have been going there for over 3 years and love it. At Play I had a random stranger come up and offer to sell me his script drugs, and I know from a source that they have a huge huge drug issue there. Doubt it just go out out to the smoking area you will see it first hand.
Fun place, only real dance place to go – I would suggest going to Tribe, next door bar 1st for some drinks. Kinda a video bar then head over to Play next door for some dancing and drag. This seems to be the really only dance gay club in nashville. Believe me I tried to find other places, but the other few bars were small and dead through the week...only good on Saturday night. Average friday night and Tribe was DEAD on Friday, but hoping before club hours on Saturday. stop by for a quick eat at House of Yum...not bad!
BORING BORING BORING! THE MUSIC IS A BORE, THE PEOPLE ARE A BORE, THE SHOWS ARE A BORE, AND THE WHITE PAINT IS AWFUL. WHY THE HELL IS THERE AN ATTENDANT IN THE LADIES RESTROOM, I DON'T NEED HELP WITH THE SOAP! THERE SHOULD NOT BE A 10$ COVER
a very sad place to go – I've lived in Nashville for a long time. I've also visited other cities that have much better atmospheres. These guys have no idea on how to run a bar, club or what ever they call their little ghetto hole. I guess since it is the only place to go in Nashville, the crew takes advantage of the fact that they can and will do what they want because they know that the guys and gals will do it if they want to have a good time. Play is FULL of cliques and dumb twinks with attitude. Nashville has the beauty, but the residents believe they are in New York.....bahahahaaaa. So pathetic. Parking is a freaking joke! Same old music from the same old tired "DJ's" All you hear, Brittney, Cher, Beyonce, Lady GaGa. blah blah blah These guys need to visit other cities, like L.A., New York, Chicago, Miami, Austin. Then, they will see how to run and build a great club.
Feel trashy? Just let the manager talk to you. – I went into Play for the first time I am crazy by nature and dancing is what I do. I was asked by security not to do certain things like touch the floor because there was broken glass, and I did as I was told. Well, the next day when I came back because I had so much rockin fun!! The manager says "Honey listen, I know you were drinking last night." I denied it and he said "You didn't drink at the bar but you drank before you came in. Act out like that again and you'll be tested." Act out? It's a club. I'm supposed to dance. My friends have been telling me he's just irked because I danced with his gay lover and turned him straight ;) Anyways, the guy I was with also got ridiculously overcharged for his alcohol and was practically molested by some of the staff, but he's pretty hot I'd molesst him to so I'm cool with that ;)
Badass in a Non Badass way. – I love going to Play. In fact, I would rather go to Play than to any other bar because I feel that it is a lot safer. I do think that the management could lighten up a bit.
I think the only con I have is that the admission price has gone up for people like me who are too young to drink since they hand out feel jello shotss... or whatever they hand out.
The only thing I would warn people about is to be sober then you get there.... EXTREMELY. I almost got arrested becuase they thought I had been drinking... even though I had told them I had just come from an NA meeting and had my chips on my key chain.
Otherwise, I have no complaints. I love meeting new people there. Except the creepy old guys who like to come on to people old enough to be their grand daughters.
Save your money – Yes, read the previous reviews carefully. The cost of the overpriced drinks in plastic cups can vary from one bartender to the next (so can the attitudes). And, as another reviewer noted the ATM up front that looks like it belongs in a laundromat, generates $$ for the club, so go figure.
