Lemon Leaf Thai Cuisine – This was my favorite thai place by far. Stopped by today for some take out and it is no longer there. Building is painted white and up for sale. How sad :(
Not worth it – It is very difficult to trust reviews on citysearch when it comes to ethnic foods because people are accustomed to certain tastes and flavors that are not necessarily authentic.
Having an Asian Indian palate, I prefer my Thai food bursting with spices and heat. I ordered a noodle dish and tom kha "HOT" at Mealmonger. The noodles came extremely bland as if they were only sauteed in oil with not even a single fleck of chilli pepper as I had ordered it. There was a single leaf of wilted lettuce on top of it. (Your guess is as good as mine.)
The tom kha wasn't that bad, though a little oily and sour, but spicy just like I liked it. Hence, the 2nd star.
Because I don't drive anymore and I was starving, I went ahead and ordered with them because of their lower delivery charge. Will not be eating here again, but like I said, I prefer spice and heat. Also, if you look at other reviews, it seems like they have trouble following directions, even with online orders.
AWFUL THAI FOOD PLACE – the food was awful . they not really cook thai food . the person who cook is mexican . i dont like everything there . dirty and the floors can hurt you . the owner is fat and stupid and everything . the food was disgusting . there was a fly in my pad thai . yuckkkkk eeeeekkkk
My worst restaurant experience yet... – This place is awful, and I will never return. My husband and I went to Lemon Leaf on Wednesday night (01/14/09) after reading the positive reviews here on CitySearch. The interior is cozy and cute. We seated ourselves after standing in the doorway for a bit. The waitress appeared as we were heading to a table for two next to the window. There was enough time for us to take in the appetizer page before she brought us waters. I managed to ask for a thai iced tea while she hurried away. She brought the tea and turned to speed-walk away again, so my husband spoke up and attempted to order appetizers - She cut him off mid-sentence with a raised hand and a terse, unintelligible utterance. When she returned with a pad to write on after delivering some food to a neighboring table, we ordered the calamari and potstickers for appetizers, and duck curry and mussamun curry for our main courses. The potstickers were good, but didn't seem "fresh" - I would guess they had been previously frozen. The calamari was undercooked, unappetizing and honestly, bizarre. It was coated in a mushy orange-colored breading that I suppose was meant to be crispy. However, we were still optimistic at this point and eagerly awaited our curries. The duck curry was the biggest disappointment: the "duck," consisted of skin, bones, and cartilage that frankly tasted a bit off. The curry sauce itself was tasty; the sweetness and spice were just right. The vegetables were mediocre. The mussamun curry sauce was also quite good; however, the chicken meat was tough and the potatoes were mostly raw (as in, still cool and really crunchy). We also had problems with flies. Overall, the only edible items we were served were the potstickers, the rice and the thai iced tea. Although the meal was completely offensive, we decided not to complain - I don't think the waitress would have understood that we weren't angry at her, but rather, at the horrible chef(s). We paid and left a table full of uneaten food.
Not very good – I'm sorry to rate this local restaurant poorly but it honestly was not very tasty and the ambience was sorely lacking. There were many flies buzzing around inside, and this was during the middle of winter. The food was brought really fast but it was of mediocre quality and freshness. I ordered the Pad Thai thinking sticking to something basic would be OK, and it was very disappointing.
One of Portland's Best – I could on and on why we order from here but suffice to say the flavors are not overbearing yet present, super spicy without losing any subtly and the staff is nice and very helpful with questions about the menu. We drive quite a ways a couple times a month to pick up our order and never hesitate to pick up the phone with menu in hand the next time.
Pros: Efficient, tasty without being "Americanized" Thai.
Cons: Not enough shrimp or fish sauce in HugeDisappointment's Papaya salad
@HugeDisappointment: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I heart people like you when I am in a public place. You people give me no end of entertainment. Keep up the grief!
Black sticky rice! – If you haven't had black sticky rice, you won't know why I was so happy to find someone who has it in Portland. I've even put a whole order through Delivered Dish just so I could get the black sticky rice.
The food is good, the owner is very very friendly--especially if you speak a little Thai. If they were closer to home I'd go more often, but even so we've been several times, when my sister's Thai partner wants to eat Thai food. If they are your neighborhood place, go hang out!
To the person who ordered food from OHSU--Absolutely don't order from a restaurant that can't guarantee not to put allergens in your food. But I know it wasn't done on purpose. English is not the first language of anyone there that I've met. Some of the staff doesn't really speak English, let alone read detailed instructions in English. This is a casual, friendly place, run in a Thai style by Thai people. Not corporate catering.
Mai pen rai.
Friendliest Thai place around – I absolutely love this restraunt. I have been eating there for a few years now. The staff is Very friendly, always makes my order as requested and does it in a timely manner. I eat in sometimes and the atmosphere is great (indoors or outdoors), I also order to go and it is always just as great. I highly recommend this place for a romantic date , friendly get together( they have space in the back for bigger get togethers) or a family night out.
I can't say enough good things about this restraunt or their staff... It is an absolute pleasure to eat there. Can't get enough of that friendly Thai atmosphere.
Good food, good service, affordable prices – My boyfriend and I have eaten here a handful of times and we've yet to be disappointed. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and the servers are always friendly. Also the food is very reasonably priced and the portions are large. The food is not biblical by any means but it is very good, and any place that can feed two people dinner for under twenty five dollars is a place that gets my business. If you live in Southeast take advantage of this neighborhood asset, and if you don't, make the journey.
Huge Disappointment – I've ordered twice from this restaurant through Delivered Dish for business meetings. The first time the food was just "OK". It was edible but certainly was FAR from the best Thai food I'd ever had. I thought I'd give the place one more chance to make or break my opinion of them.
Unfortunately, they screwed up an order that was SO specific I can only imagine that their staff absolutely cannot read or simply do not care to work with their paying customers. I ordered SOM TOM, a papaya salad. Due to an allergy and a personal preference I ordered it vegan. Here is the EXACT order: "Papaya Salad (Som Tum) (#18) How spicy?: 4: HOT - NO FISH SAUCE OR SHRIMP. We'd like this made completely vegan. If that is not possible we'd like to be given the opportunity to order something else."
When I received my order it was not only crawling with shrimp, it smelled very strongly of fish sauce. Which is absolute B.S. considering just how specific my order was. I would have ordered something else if they had simply said "We wont do that" but they said absolutely nothing. I WILL NOT order from them EVER again. NEVER EVER. I order thousands of dollars worth of food every month for business meetings and they will never see another penny from me. It's just the principle of the matter, really. It was a blatant SLAPinTHEface of the customer and that is completely unacceptable.
