A mellow neighborhood crowd keeps this cute as a button corner Clinton cafe busy schlepping Italian classics at night (get the meatball sandwich) and brunch on the weekends. Try the sour cream and walnut streusel coffeecake.

Save your money and don't waste your time. – This has to be one of the most overpriced, mediocre dining experiences in SE Portland, if not the entire metro area. Pasta dishes that cost over $10 could easily be made at home for $2 or less. The pizza is plain horrendous - like cardboard with a melted dirty sock on top. The owner and staff are transparently phony, greedy and conniving. Extras such as bread and Parmesan are so tightly controlled and stingily doled out as to be ridiculous. If you are looking for a pleasant neighborhood spot to enjoy part of an evening, this ain't the place. Perhaps Sub Standard would be a better name.

best for desserts! – SubRosa is a super sweet restaurant, very fitting for it's corner of SE PDX. The food is a little costly but good homestyle Italian, much like my grandma used to make! It is worth going just for the desserts, however. They are amazing! We split a chocolate cake and the yummiest little cookies I have every had. Good coffee, good dessert, great atmosphere! Not sure who does the baking, but they should be recognized in the top tier of Portland bakers!

Classic SE Portland – Great Italian food for dinner in the neighborhood. Try the Spicy Rosa, a great pasta dish that is worked with tomato and mushrooms, with a little kick to boot. Pizza Bread is a great appetizer, and will fill you up if you don't have a companion. Try any of the specials, usually a Lasagne or ravioli is on the specials board. Servers are willing and able. Affordable, unpretentious wines perfectly suitable for dinner.

This is a typical SE Portland eatery. If you're looking for upscale, try Downtown....Now for a Breakfast review. You get very special attention here for breakfast. I was very impressed. Just not sure why everyone goes to Broder (across the street). Coffee and Egg dishes are just as good at Sub Rosa...with no wait.

Best community hangout – The three best things about Sub Rosa are 1) the fabulous, hilarious, warm-hearted owner, Mary Ann. 2) the great pasta (try ordering 1/2 mac and cheese and 1/2 spicy rosa mixed together. Yum. To die for. The incredible delicious soups, great pizza and tasty salads, 3) the community hangout. come there any night and find friendly service and a lively crowd of warm Southeast folks.

Oh boy, I better also mention the breakfast on the weekends. Try the eggs benedict with a veggie patty. Wow. That is a fine use of cholesterol. Yum.

Excellent food and service – We've had two very enjoyable meals here recently. Once for dinner and once for breakfast. We thought the food was excellent and of good value. Appreciated the option of ordering half portions. The wait staff was competent and polite. We will be returning.

Best service I've recieved in SE. AMAZING food! – I brought a group of 5 into Sub Rosa for dinner recently on a Sunday evening, and received ABSOUTELY fantastic service. The place has a nice and comfortable atmosphere, and the food was terrific. Local ingredients, and it's obvious their fare is lovingly crafted. Everything on the menu is reasonably priced. I've been here a few times on date night, and always am pleasantly surprised. Great neighborhood restaurant.

Avoid if you are vegan or if you want a fair price for food – We had a most disappointing experience. We are thinking of moving to the SE neighborhood so were driving around, saw this restaurant, and decided to give it a try since it was reviewed in Cheap Eats. The salad was great. Their was only one choice on the menu that even was close to vegan. We ordered this - spaghetti marinara and it took about 20 to 25 minutes! Then, it came in a small soup type bowl that would have fed our 3 year old, and her alone. And for a price equal to a many of the other Italian places we've frequented. We will never go here again, nor recommend it to anyone.

Cozy Little Restaurant – We hadn't heard of this place before, but it is great. The pasta and the pizza was delicious. The desert was great as well. The service could be a little faster, but we were very happy with our experience. Highly recommended.

Feels like home, but with better food – This is a great little neighborhood restaurant that makes me wish I lived in the neighborhood. Fresh ingredients, thoughtful seasoning, generous portions all add up to really good meals. I keep coming back because it's such a comfortable place.

One of my favorites.

Fabulous little jewel in Clinton! – My hubby and I were walking around the neighborhood and decided to try this place, not really knowing much about it. It was well worth it. The food is very good, the service was excellent, and the prices very reasonable. You can order half portions of pasta, which I loved since it's usually so filling anyway an we wanted to try the goat cheese tart appetizer. It was delicious! This is a very quaint restaurant and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Highly recommend this place!
