Super Cheap Specials on Great Food! – The ENTIRE menu at Vines is 1/2 price on Mondays, and to be quite honest I eat lunch here almost every Monday. I have never been disappointed with anything I have ever ordered. My absolute faves are the buffalo chicken nachos, and the Southwest Chicken Salad. As for pizza, my vote goes to the italian beef & giardiniera. Everything is so cheap, bring a big group and order it all!! I know they have good specials the rest of the week too, like 1/2 price pizzas on Fridays, but the only bummer is no specials on game days. Even on a Monday at 11am when the cubs aren't playing until 7pm. Their outdoor is patio is as large as their restaurant and they service is fast & friendly. BUT I really do hate the plastic silverware they give you when you sit on the patio. Big TVs to watch your fave sports is a plus too!
check out their specials – Great place for lunch any day of the week. Their entire menu is 1/2 price on Mondays. You get a ton of food for the money in a usually over priced neighborhood. Very friendly staff.
Get past the guy at the door and you'll be fine! – Food was OUTSTANDING! Prices are really fair. Service is mediocre. Four of us went the night after Thanksgiving and all ate...with some leftovers!...for under $100--OH, did I mention we had two bottles of wine, too?!?! That's CHEAP! The only down side was the dork at the door, a tall gay boy with a bad attitude. Get past him, tolerate some of the slowest service you've ever endured, and you'll eat GOOD for CHEAP! Enjoy!!! And say hi to the boy at the door for me! If he were good looking and had a nice attitude, I might consider switching teams.
Wine was spectacular, and food not only mouth watering, but plentiful! Monday night football--half price drinks & half price FOOD! – One of the best "sports bars" in Chicago because of its upscale vibe and beautiful enclosed sunroom. As a 40 something.....i appreciated the non-brawl like atmosphere, it was fun, upbeat but not annoyingly rowdy. There are no bad seats, all are clear views to the high def screens --which are everywhere. We ordered two white wines, one German the other California and they were PHENOMENAL. The service was quite frankly, better than most elegant, high-brow restaurants. Food was a big surprise - we started with a hummus plate that came with piping hot pita bread, warm flavorful hummus and crisp veggies (it was huge), boyfriend had steak fettuccine and i had a crisp, savory pizza for one (6 pieces which were more than enough) that had garlic, basil, peperoni and Gorgonzola-ALL was to DIE for. Best thing, it was Monday and it was half price for food and wine--this great meal was only $31! There is nothing like this anywhere in the city. 4 ++ stars.
The hairiest chode I ever saw! – I walked into the bathroom at Vines one night and there was a guy perched up on the sink tweezing his chode hair! I could not believe it. But get this.. I went back to my table to sit down and the guy from the bathroom turns out to be my waiter!! I was speachless! When our food came I commented about his personal hygiene and he told me if I did not like it I could leave. On my way out I was then insulted by the restaurant manager for not being socially acceptable of other people's bathroom habits. Needless to say I will never be going back because I do not want my food fondled by Edward Chode Hands.
Not your average meal – We recently revisited Vines to see if the quality had remained as good as we remembered. We had been there for dinner with friends, ordering several appetizers, entrees and desserts and splitting them to get a sense of the restaurant. Every dish we had from the fish to the pasta, to the pizza to the pecan crusted chicken and ingenious desserts was wonderful. The paper napkins in face of this marvelous setting and inspired food was baflling, however. We recenttly returned for brunch and I believe that Vines has found its voice. $3 Mimosas and the cocounut shrimp, portabello mushroom sandwich, and onion rings were perfect for a midday repast. My huband felt that there was too much mustard on his Italien sub panini and that the fries were salty, which given how much he likes salt says something. We had no room for dessert this trip, which given the descriptions, was unforturnate. Our service was excellent. We have lived for nearly three decades in Lakeview and eat out several times a week.
Great food - wonderful location – I have lived in Wrigleyville for years and have had food at almost every bar on Clark. I love Vines because I can get more than your standard wings and nachos that are served everywhere else. The pasta is wonderful...my only complaint is that the drinks are a little pricey for this neighborhood.
great location – we went to vines. i had wanted to go back to bar louie , but having already been there, and just moved to wrigleyville we made a pact to try everything once. vines looked nice, we were seated quickly and then actively ignored by our waiter. in between getting the table next to us their ketchup bottle, checking with the other tables around us and then flirting with another table, our drinks never arrived. we waited for him to say something like "i'll see what's keeping your drinks", but he couldn't be bothered. after waiting fifteen minutes staring at other drinks and food arrive nearby, we broke our pact and went over to bar louie, where we got our drinks speedily and our excellent food tucked away. vines gets an average rating: we weren't' able to even get our food order put in, but i don't think we'll go back.
Sophisticated pasta and panini served--indoors and out--in the shadows of Wrigley Field. – The Scene
Although the restaurant is rooted in Cubs country, the focus isn't on baseball. Dark wood seating, blown glass lighting and a sunroom complete with fireplace create a romantic mood. Flying solo? An outdoor patio and rooftop dining area is where neighborhood 20-somethings snag a few brews. Friendly, helpful servers make noshing here a treat.
While there's nary a hot dog on the menu, the gouda-topped, hand-pressed burger is a staple for post-game revelers. Crisp, savory flatbread pizzas, like the boscaiola with provolone, pancetta, mushrooms, roma tomatoes and vinaigrette-dressed frisee, are positively addictive. The prime steak sandwich on garlic bread with creamy gorgonzola is a class act, and homemade pastas like the orecchiette with Italian sausage and rapini in spicy tomato sauce are as homey as can be. A dessert must: Southern Comfort-soused, caramelized pineapple hunks on vanilla bean ice cream.
Outdoor Scene – The outdoor patio and rooftop dining of Vines is the key to summertime. I was walking down Clark just past Cubby Bear and saw the Vines on Clark sign. I went in and was excited about the atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the staff. I dined on the rooftop and ate homemade pasta and the best dessert ever-plum tart. I definitely recommend this restaurant. It will be the scene this summer check it out.
