Thank you Dine on Demand – I have never personally been to the restaurant, but I can honestly say I love the food. It can seem a bit like mainstream Indian food if there is such a thing.
The chicken tiki masala is usually my top choice when I order from Masala. I've also enjoyed the Vindaloo and their Curries. mmm just thinking about it makes me want more!!
This is a good restaurant to start out if you have never had Indian food before.
great indian food – im an indian food lover. went to masala and loved there food. Southern Chicken was amazing! will definitely be making this a regular stop for my meals. mmmmmm....
Love it! – My fiance has lived in Austin for 2 years and ever since he discovered Masala Wok, he's been eating from there at least once a week. Now that I moved here, I'm craving it as much as he does! Half the time we eat in, and the owner is extremely nice (he knows my fiance by now because of how often he comes in.) He always says hello and offers new suggestions for us to try. He even changes the channel on the flat screen TV for us if there is a football game on. The other half the time we get our food to go and I'm happy to announce that they have never gotten our order wrong. (Which is saying a lot because so many of the restaurants we order to-go, mess up so frequently.)
I always have a hard time deciding between the Samosas (puffed pastries filled with potatoes and peas) and the Samosa Chaat (samosas with a whipped yogurt/chutney topping) for my appetizer. Both are very good. I often get the Spinach Masala with potatoes which is served with rice and has such great flavor. I like that you can choose mild, medium, or hot for each dish. I always get mine medium which is not too spicy but has great flavor. My fiance gets his hot, but sometimes it's not hot enough for him. If you like garbanzo beans, I recommend the Chole Masala, which is spiced just right with curry sauce.
Totally not worth it – I was excited about this place from all the good reviews, but I was horribly disappointed. The service was great, and the manager was nice and very solicitous. But the food was not good. The samosas were okay but nothing special. The brown sauce that came with the samosas, which is normally the best part, was so vinegary I had trouble swallowing it. The chicken tikka masala was edible, but that's about it. It was so tomato-y you could have put pasta underneath it and called it tomato basil penne. I hardly tasted any curry at all. My friend ordered the vindaloo curry with chicken, and that was better than the tikka masala. Maybe I'm spoiled by the indian food in Philadelphia, but I'm not sure what the reviewer was thinking when she said the chicken tikka masala was the best she'd ever had. I will not be going back.
Soooooooo good! – My husband and I first tried Indian food overseas and fell in love with it. When we got back, we tried to find good Indian food in Austin and we found a couple of places that were okay, but they were lacking something undefinable. My husband found Masala Wok online, and I have to admit I was sceptical, but from the second we walked in the door, we knew we'd found it - it smelled amazing! We live in far south Austin and they are located far north Austin. We now drive up there once a week to get our fix. We're trying to talk them into putting in a location down south so we don't have to go so far for real Indian food. BTW - if you tried this place more than about 6 or 7 months ago, you should give it another shot. The current owners/managers are fantastic! They're friendly and attentive and the food is so good it's addictive!
Indian food, great food and awesome customer service! Highly Recommended – I went to the restaurant a few weeks ago, I believe now there's new ownership, and you can totally tell. First of all the ordering and serving time was so fast, it made it very convenient how you just go order and then right away you get your food. All the flavors of the food were excelent I specially liked the appetizer sauce they served made out of tamarind, just delicious. I rate the restaurant a 5 star, when we got there it was a friday night and it was almost time for closing however people kept on coming and coming, which made the ambiance very inviting.
Great Food and service – I was here with my family a few weeks back. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Keep up the good work.
Best Indian Chineese – My experience at Masala Wok -- with the change of management and new onwership has been great !!
I have been the as many as 10 times and more already! Food is great and back to its original taste!! I love the "manchou soup" my favorite. I enjoyed the new added Tandoor "paneer" wrap, mouth watering taste not forgetting the "masala wok spicy". I would recommended you visit and give them a try, good value for your buck!!! and very friendly customer service with new ownership....
Great fresh food, combining my faves: INDIAN & CHINESE – Great fusion of two cuisines. Heard about it when management changed and they offered free lunch. WOW. Tasty. Esp. like the Butter Paneer Curry which can be shared or hoarded like I did!! Also the mango lassi is worth the visit by itself. Haven't been disappointed at all, and I think I've tried everything. Since I'm a "white guy," they adjust the spices according to my eye color. Be adventurous!!! BIGGEST SURPRISE: probably the best Tres Leches cake in all of Austin!
Arrogant service and lousy food – I went to this restaurant after a long time. The food used to be good, however something changed over time. Today's experience is worth sharing.
I ordered American Chopsuey, which is a very popular Indian Chinese dish. The waitress brought out something else after 10 minutes. I pointed it out and waited another 10 minutes. This time the thing looked like "American Chopsuey" however the taste was far away from that. It tasted pretty bad on the first bite. I called the waitress and pointed it out. I said that I will not eat this and she can take it back. She took it back. She offered no apology and no refund. She did not even offered to cook it again.
Interesting enough, I noticed that there is no single Indian working in the restaurant. All of their cooks are Mexican. I was told that my complain about the food will be provided to owner who makes all the recipes. It clicked my mind; I thought I will talk with the owner. At first they refused to give me his number but later on the assistant manager provided me that.
Even more interesting, the owner picked up the phone and from his name and accent, it seemed to me that he is not Indian either. I explained my experience to him, he offered no apology or money back either!!!!
So if ever tasted Indian Chinese elsewhere (there is a Masala Wok in Dallas), you would be shocked with the quality of the food here. Even more shocking is their service and arrogance...
