Very dry bakery and pastry - do not go here! – This must be the driest, most unappealing tasting pastry I have ever tasted. Oh, it looks great in the case, but looks are quite deceiving!

My 3 sisters and I went here, each bought a different pastry at cost of $7-$8 each, and although the 3 pastries were different ones, the verdict was the same - dry, disappointing, not much flavor at all. We ended up spening about $19 for just 3 pastries (didn't even have lunch, just 3 pastries - only ONE each!), and all 3 of us were so upset at having spent that kind of money on a bad experience. No beverages either for that price.

We learned the hard way, and this is why we are letting you know. We don't want you to learn the hard way too. Dry pastry is nobody's friend and very unappealing. Your hard earned money is better spent elsewhere!

not closed officially – My friends and I are so thrilled to hear they are going to re-open! We really enjoy hanging out there for coffee and lunches. We will definitely be back. We also have met the owner and can say with a fact that he is one of the nicest guy and with extremely high tolerance (believe me, my friends and i can be really high maintenance). So we kinda giggled at the last comment which unfortunately speaks more about the writer. Chill pill anyone?

Hereghty's is TERRIBLE - and thankfully, it's now CLOSED! – This place was a nightmare - hubby and I both got sick after lunch here on one occasion.

About two months prior to that awful experience, we asked some questions about the menu and the owner was extremely, extremely rude to us, and commented that he "did not have time" to talk to us. Very rude.

The icing on the cake was when hubby's company tried to order pastries from this circus of a place, had written confirmation of the order, and they lost the order, leaving him with an uncatered corproate party at the last minute. Really unprofessional.

I am so glad this place is permamently closed, as these clowns clearly do not know what they are doing. Leave this type of business to the professionals.

I would never, ever want to see anyone get as sick from their food as we did. That was the last time we ever went to this place.

Let's Keep it Alive – I reluctantly have to agree with the recent poor reviews. I was the #1 fan, but have been greatly dissappointed by the change in quality. I agree the service has been rude and flippant -- a change is needed -- Brian -- please read this and others and make the change -- it will go a long way.

Now, to all the overly critical. This is a small business and the owner is trying his best. I am not sure what happened, but clearly something happened to the kitchen. Yes, the chef may have left and not knowing the circumstances, I think we should be patient. Losing a talent that the chef was is not easy to replace. I can attest to the owners willingness to produce a great product and I have faith he is trying. To say you would rather go to Starbucks or Whole Foods, is missing the point of trying to support a local small business vendor. There is probably nothing tougher in business then a small local cafe, so even if you don;t get pastries for awhile, why not still go in and get a cup of espresso every so often -- let's help places like this survive, until they can get back on the right track. Be supportive, offer advice, but be understanding and a little less attacking. If we lose places liek this, Raleigh will lose any uniqueness and we can just be every other secondary city in the country.

Priceless Pastries – If you want great coffee and delicious pastries, this is the coffee shop for you. The staff is warm and friendly knowing you by name always remembering your coffee preference. I have been a patron of this coffee shop for a long time and highly recommend it. They offer a wide variety of breakfast pastries, a wonderful lunch menu, and fabulous desserts as well as a great wine selection. Custom cakes are available upon request. There is seating indoors and outdoors with music provided to make it relaxing and inviting. A great place to meet your friends to make everyday priceless.

Coming back – I heard they are re-opening, yeah! Thought they were closed but guessed wrong. I'm so thrilled as it is a great place. Finally looking forward to the latte and lunches again!

No clue what customer service is – I had to stop going several months ago after I realized that there was no way to predict when they would be open or if they would have anything to serve. That and the service always left me bitter for having just spent my money to support such unfriendly people.

The morning servers have really mastered the skill of taking an order, making change, and serving the order without ever acknowledging that there is a person in front of them. This rare skill usually takes several years of working behind bullet proof glass at a 2:00 am. Maybe they are going for the approach that if they treat the customer really bad they will keep coming back to see if they can make the server smile or say good morning.

Must have a new baker – I always was willing to put up with a little 'tude because I was addicted to their awesome pastries. Something has changed- their pastries are different and, quite frankly, I am not willing to put with the 'tude for their 'new' pastries. Rather go to Starbucks- they are friendlier, their pasties are just ok as is their coffee. Great coffee at H's, but not worth the 'tude anymore. The pastries used to put them over the top, but they must have a new baker or something.

Delicious desserts and great coffee! – my husband and i have been coming here at least once/twice a month...if we lived closer, we would be here probably everyday. so i sort of consider ourselves regular customers. we may not know all the staff's names, but we find them and their service to be just fine and have never had an issue, so i was quite surprised by the negative comments about the service here. what i find unfortunate is that people, in general, will be first in line to complain if they are not happy about something, but the last to share a compliment. its a shame. in our experience, the patries have always been delightful and sometimes we just spontaneously decide to make a trip over here and treat ourselves to one of their delicous choices and a good cup of coffee. occasionally, my girlfriends and i will meet up here in the evening for wine and desserts and it's such a neat place to hang out...very cozy, upscale decor and cool paintings. we can easily stay for hours. i love this place and i wish we lived closer!

do unto others . . . – After reading the string of poor reviews about customer service at Hereghty, I just have to speak up. I am a regular at Hereghty and from what I see there, it is not always the staff that is snobby. The saying of "the customer is always right" can be taken too far. I have worked in food service for decades, and there are some folks who just push the envelope. Now, I am saying SOME, not all. And there are SOME folks who frequent Hereghty who have an inflated sense of entitlement. It is one thing to POLITELY make a special request, and it is another thing to act as though you are somehow better than the people who are doing their best to serve you. It makes me crazy to watch it. The employees at Hereghty are human beings, after all!!

For example, I saw a woman go to the counter to ask for a fork. The gentlemen behind the counter politley indicated to the woman that the forks were located in a container behind her. She refused to get a fork, but insisted that the employee leave his postion behind the counter, and retrieve a fork for her. Another woman refused to pick up a prearranged order because her chocolate covered strawberries had chocolate dots on them instead of chocolate zig-zags. She made a huge scene about it! And seriously, if you don't want the strawberry glaze on your scone, then scrape it off yourself. Why does someone else have to do it for you? It's a little weird for an employee to retrieve an item from the display, and then scrape it front of a line of customers. It just looks bad.

All of the above requests, although ridiculous, would be less painful for those involved if the customers did not have such rude and cloying nature. If you are dining out, and you make a special request, at least do so with a respectful tone in your voice, instead of bossing people around like servants. If you lack this skill, then don't expect people to always be smiling.
