Please do not be mistaken by all these positive reviews. They are either made up or exaggerated. I have been to this Naan & Curry restaurant here in Renton, and as a mix indian, I can honestly say, it is no where near, AUTHENTIC!!
Food is WAAAY over priced and quantity is too small. You will even have to pay for naan ($1.99 to $2.99) which usually comes FREE in other indian restaurants nearby.
Food comes in literally half size of a normal plate. It’s packed with cream, and only 3 to 4 pieces of meat ( 1”x1”x 1/2” pieces to be exact).
I had “Muttar paneer”. It had few blocks of cheese in orange cream source, with 30 Peas sprinkled on it. And they call it curry!!!
These guys exploit on people who don’t know what “Authentic” Indian food should be.
Please be aware.
Review Alert !! - Especially for Indian patrons – - as comparison made with Indian restaurants!!
Travel frequently and have visited Indian restaurants coast-to-coast.
Wish I could give this negative stars, but 1 it will be :(
-Pricey menu: Paneer Tikka Masala, 2 Garlic Naans and Mango Lassi which is standard meal for one came to $30 with 10% tip!
-Not authentic in taste at all, as claimed - Cant even begin to imagine where the "fresh spices" and "ingredients" are bought from, at least my platter was devoid of any.
-Slow service and overbearing owner/manager - Though order was taken quickly and served (the saving grace of the place), took forever to clean up and take order for dessert. Finally, decided to personally walk up to the cashier to pay and leave! Of course, the owner/manager saw nothing wrong in this ;-)
Bad enough for me to type a review - hope others can avoid this mistake.
Too pricey for poor service and stingy portions – I was very disappointed with the overpriced food, stingy portions, and poor service. I came here with my husband on a Wednesday evening at 5:30 when the restaurant wasn't busy. Our food was okay at best. I ordered the chicken tikka masala; the flavor was bland and the chicken scanty. The rice was not included in the price of the meal; it was almost $4 extra and not enough to serve two.
The staff was lackadaisical and unfriendly. We waited an inordinate amount of time for our check, then no one came back to pick up our credit card to perform the transaction. When we finally got the attention of the waitress again, she pointed to another woman and said, "she'll come and get it in a minute". Not acceptable. Not going back. Waste of $40 I should have spent elsewhere.
Obnoxious owner and unwelcoming customer service – I was a regular at Naan N Curry, the staff had my order MEMORIZED and they knew me by NAME. The owner was always nice and gracious. I brought several friends to this restaurant and all had a great experiences! On the second to last visit I brought a good friend and when the food came one dish was unexpectedly ordered. When I asked what it was the owner came over and smirked telling me that it was what I ordered. Never having this dish and not even knowing how to pronounce the name, I told him I did not order this and that I wanted the channa masala that I order every time! After trying to convince me that was what I ordered he told the waitress, " Go get her what she wants!" very rudely and continued trying to convince me that it was my fault! He gave us very nasty looks and we e ignored the rest of our meal.we were alittle hurt after that experience but decided to give them another try thinking maybe he was having a bad day or maybe it was just me. The second time we came, we thought service was better until they ignored us again acting as if they had know idea we were there! They served and welcomed everyone else even when they left us for 30 MINUTES! we were trying to make eye contact and wave someone down and they passed us and served the man sitting behind us never returning to our table. Finally someone asked us if we wanted boxes, not how our food was or if we enjoyed it. Then we sat another 15 MINUTES until we decided to go up front and pay for our food with out our check. The owner and staff used to treat me very well with the utmost respect and I was excited to bring friends there. Now I am sad to say that I will not be going back.
Truly Impressive Pakistani / Northern Indian Food – Wow... seriously: This has GOT to be the best Pakistani and North Indian food in the area. It certainly goes directly to the head of MY list.
The restaurant was recommended to me by a work colleague. I was soooo glad for the recommendation! I had been searching for YEARS for a restaurant in the area with an authentic Northern Indian or Pakistani taste... but nothing seemed that good to me. Decent? Sure.... but really GOOD? Never. Until I found THIS place, which is just outstanding.
I had the Chicken Karahi and the Lamb Biryani. The Karahi had gorgeously ripe tomato pieces, and that sauce! WONDERFUL. I've never been a big fan of Biryanis... I always found them sort of boring. But the Lamb Biryani was recommended, and it was truly excellent. The lamb wasn't over cooked and was extremely tasty. The sauce on the rice was exeptional.
The naan was also tender and delicious.
The dining room has pleasantly loud buzz, with folks having a good time. The service was friendly and prompt.
I'll definitely be back... HIGHLY recommended.
I want to go to Renton – This place is indeed a gem.
I heard positive reviews about this place from a classmate, so two friends and I decided to drive from Seattle to try it out. The experience surpassed expectations and will make me a regular. First off, the graciousness of the father-son owners was apparent from the moment we walked in the door. We legitimately felt welcomed by Shan, the son. We didn't know what we wanted so we got recommendations- naan (basically mandatory), the tandori fish, an almond curry and a green malasla (all of which have more specific names that I can't recall).
The white fish was especially good with the perfect amount of seasonings and little fishiness. While the fish wasn't cheap, it was worth the price since the portion was huge (4 large pieces), so it's an excellent item to share. While I loved both of the other items, the almond curry wins points for its uniqueness. It didn't have an overly almond flavor, but it was more dynamic than other curries I have had without being too strong in flavor. Although the chicken was really tender, it's one of those dishes that you want to make sure you consume all of the sauce, preferably with naan.
We hadn't intended on getting dessert. We were really full, but we all figured that the homemade rice pudding and ice cream were worth a try. Yes, they were. Whatever warm pastry they had in the middle of the rice pudding was sinfully good.
Great place. Worth the drive down to Renton.
Great Food AND OWNER – I can't understand complaints about the owner when my family and I have eaten there many times and have had a great time with the owner, and everyone else. My daughter has been to India so that probably makes a difference, but he is still friendly to everyone I could see. Food is fantastic as well. My wife and daughter have both been to India, daughter three times, and this is their favorite "authentic" establishment. We have a great time every time we eat there!
Worst experience – We used to visit this restauratn from the days when previous owner owned it and when the new owner took over the food quality greatly improved but during last couple of visit we realized that food is not up to par and the owner has become very rude proably due to stress of running the restaurant. He is pushy ans when you do not buy the stuff he offers you he smirkls and make fun of you.
decent food, irritating owner – I used to frequent this restaurant a lot but lately have been let down, in particular by the attitude of the owner. The website claims 2 people can eat under $20, that is so not true. The worst thing is the owner tries to smooth talk and sell you unlisted items (so called specials) that are priced above the menu items. Besides that he tries to be funny and unnecessarily friendly. On a recent visit a coworker complained that the veggie dish was stale and the restaurant staff acknowledged it. The owner's son came back with a fresh dish and apologized. However the (elderly) owner after a while showed up and tried to engage in a coverup. He blamed overripe tomatoes and claimed that everyone else in the restaurant was having the same dish and no one else complained. Seriously, how many people eat vegetarian at Naan-nCurry. So it was basically just my coworker that had a problem is what he was saying. All this after his staff had acknowledged that the vegetables were stale. In any other restaurant I would expect them to compensate by offering a sweet dish or apology at a minimum. Won't be returning to this place anytime soon.
NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT – Food is ok. But DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE. The owner has very little tolerance for kids, and repeatedly lies about "customers complaining about the noise". This is by no means a family friendly establishment. Even if very well-behaved kids make any noise (as kids do), they will be quickly lied to by the owner and asked to keep their kids in line. UNREAL!
Funny thing is, it is not even that nice of a restaurant - meaning, it is not considered fine dining - yet the old man that owns the place cannot stand it if a child makes any noise at all. I do not recommend this place.
