This place is closed – I was expecting a nice place for my date but this place is closed!! did not have a chance to experience it
Hidden cove on the UES, fabulous wines – Had a bad experience here last year, but being a fair person, I decided to give the new owners a chance and it was worth it. The new wine selections are affordable and exquisite. The new menu is a huge improvement, with some really great cheeses. It's not a place to go if you are starving, but if you are looking for a hip, romantic place for wines and light snacking, then I'd definitely recommend it. Also great for dessert (the chocolate fondue with fruit is delicious and photo worthy).
WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER! – Our waitress was completely RUDE when we ordered water instead of alcohol or soda. Hello? If I'm going to eat large amounts of melted cheese, I want to enjoy the taste, not distort it with coke. She brought us not one, but TWO sets of dirty plates/silverware (with food crusted on it). We sent the first set back and she huffed about it. When we told her the SECOND set was equally dirty, she didn't believe us and made us SHOW her where the food was.
The fondue was expensive and mediocre - and seemed "off" as if the cheese had gone bad.
There was also a birthday party there that night and Fondue couldn't accomodate it. They made the people at the table next to us move their food/drinks to the other room.
I complained and the manger bought us shots. That gesture didn't save our night.
Great atmoshphere on the UES – Didn't know this place existed, and i've been in the hood for 2years. I happened upon it tonight and was greeted by the new owners as I peered in. They convinced me to come in...so i did, and asked them what they recommended for a red wine choice. One guy told me that they literally just bought the place 2 hours ago, so they didn't know anything about the wines. But he offered to give me a free tasting of every red they had until i found one i liked! they were super nice (i promised to give them a good review, and mention the movie nights on thursdays all summer long on the big screen in back). The wines were good and the fondue was tasty. I recommend the chocolate fondue highly. It's a really cozy hole-in- the wall, with a trendy vibe, great for first dates.
AVOID AVOID AVOID – We had friends fly in from out of town. One of them said she really wanted to try a fondue restaurant. We made reservations two weeks in advance and saved it until the last night of their trip. When we got there, the hostess was the only person in the restaurant and informed us that they wouldn't be serving food that evening! Apparently, the chef hadn't shown up and the owner didn't write down any reservations she'd taken (it wasn't just us). She said we had to call back, make new reservations and get a free drink next time. It was so ridiculous. Why would I make reservations and come all the way across town again if we never know if there will be food? Why do I have to call back when they made such a huge mistake? Doesn't it seem like they should call us? NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Delicious – Provided you arrive at the right time and have enough elbow room, Fondue is an beautiful, intimate, and relaxing couple's cove. Their "Les deux Saveures" cheese fondue is delicious and rich with ample servings of a variety of vegetables and French bread crusts. Also loved the "Bisou-Bisou" Chocolate-Caramel fondue which came with generous portions of sweets and fresh fruits.
Don't waste your time – Went there for a group event and it was the biggest disappointment. My best friend reserved the 'party room' and was told it would be ready for us by 9pm. When we got there, they had a party already in there. They did not leave until 10pm. The service was horrible, very slow and LOTS of attitude. They definitely cannot handle large groups and should not advertise for this. We had an open bar for two hours but after only an hour and a half we were informed that it was over. It was the worse experience. I will never go there and will NEVER recommend it to anyone else. It is definitely not worth the money they charge.
Great Upper East Side Spot – This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, much different than all of the other UES frat bars. The caramel and chocolate fondues are out of this world. The owner and her staff are super friendly and create a very relaxing atmosphere. This place is as perfect for a first date as it is for a casual evening with a group of friends.
Fondon't – We were there for two hours and only got three cheese fondues with broccoli, bread and carrots. The beef never came because the stove was broken. Plus the wait staff took so long between serving us that the cheese curdled. There are a grand total of three tables there, and the wait staff still took forever to serve us. The drinks where served in small glasses and were watered down. The place is so tiny, there's barely any room to sit. Try elsewhere for fondue.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE – The wait staff are unresponsive, the food, if you can even consider it food, is horrid. As for the drinks, all you'll taste is water.
