Perfect in so many ways! – This might be the best new lounge/bar/eatery in New York--and even better--it is a hidden gem. Close to Times Square and in Hell's Kitchen/midtown--but not so close as to be filled with tourists. It is a neighborhood bar--but also a swanky, sassy lounge. You'll find already loyal locals mixed with those in the know. The candlelit sophisticated decor coupled with great music sets a mood right for a weekday stop-in or an all night weekend party spot. But absolutely the most wonderful part of Sortie is the owner Juan who makes everyone a friend and attends to every need.

Great find – I was just at Sortie this Saturday. I went with a group of 8 and we had a wonderful time. The service was friendly, warm and attentive, even once the place started to fill up. The music was great and the atmosphere was cozy and fun. I especially liked the red walls and low lighting. I highly recommend the calamari salad- it was excellent. Several of my friends asked how I had heard of this place, they were very impressed. I will definitely be back!

Great ambience and delectable food – You would never expect to walk down 51st and see this quaint, fun, resonably priced lounge/bar/restuarant. It is right by all the theatre and a good pre theatre - chillout place. I went in the evening for drinks and then when i saw the menu stayed for dinner too. The beer selection is amazing...along with the wine and champagne. You can get tapas to munch on, mussels to indulge in and listen to wonderful world beats. The music is perfect and the style is fresh. I danced when it got later into the night, there was a great guest DJ and hte crowd was welcoming. GO!

Could be the best bar in midtown! – Could this be the best bar in midtown. Yeah, it's more expensive than an O.J. Simpson defense team ($10 beers), but was it cool. Music good, not at torturous levels. A bartender, Juan, who'll stop by your table, make recommendations, listen to your stories, shoot the breeze. A waitress, Adelle, who treats you like mishpocha. Great atmosphere. Friendly neighbors. Exotic beers (with a bit more Belgian tint than I like... but that's minor). Every drink clubber loved the place. Says Kinya, "This is my best place for drink club.". --Drink Club is a roving band of NYC drinkers

Love this place! – Finally a place in the neighborhood that isn't owned by a faceless restaurant group. Call me crazy but I still like to walk in to a place where the owner is there and NEVER fails to remember your face. Thanks Juan! Sortie is elegant and cozy with a great staff (Brian the bartender) and a lovely drink menu. I've taken to going twice a week when cabin fever strikes. Bring a date or sit at the bar alone and chat. You'll never feel out of place. The DJ's are top notch as well. ENJOY!

A transporting after-work and date spot in Hell's Kitchen. – The Scene
Visitors step down from a tree-lined street to the front patio, where a brightly colored mosaic and handful of umbrella tables greet them. But inside the subterreanean space, the look is more dark and sultry. A giant old Pegasus sign, retired from a Mobil gas station, embellishes the brick-exposed wall beside a roomy square-shaped bar. There, neighborhood patrons with decidedly uptown style sit and mingle. Further back, a dining room lined with plush red banquettes accommodates after-work guests who want to rest their feet more poshly.

The Draw
With romantic lighting, black-and-white photos hanging from the bordello red walls, and a DJ spinning mellow grooves, the place feels like an escape from the city streets. The subtly herbal Madagascar, a concoction of basil-infused vodka, black cherry vodka, raspberry liqueur, and lime juice, is absolutely transporting--though the orangey kumquat martini fails to move you to the tropics.

Still Going Strong – I've been coming to Sortie since its opening about a year and a half ago, and I've never once been disappointed. The service is for the most part attentive and there's NO attitude, which is nice to find in NYC. The atmosphere is chic sex*y(the pictures on the website don't do it justice). The food is better than most high end restaurants out there. They have one of the BEST burgers out there, people - and I've tried burgers everywhere. They also have the BEST molten chocolate cake you could possibly imagine - comparable to a dessert at Vosges or any other high-end chocolate establishment, however this one is sans attitude. (Two "BEST"s is impressive on my scale.) Also try the calamari salad, the tuna tartare and the dim sum, though all the dishes on the eclectic menu are tasty and well-presented. The crowd is stylish. The music (another love of mine) is always great. They've got some impressive DJs at Sortie; I've even been there on nights and saw some real greats there spinning. (I can't mention specific names - I don't want to bl*w up their spot, but I was floored!)

Anyhow, I love the spot, and for obvious reasons, I suggested that my office Xmas party be thrown there. My co-worker in charge of planning the party also loved Sortie, so she set it up. According to her, everything was made super easy for her. She said she had a clear understanding of what we were getting, that Sortie even exceeded her expectations. The food was substantial and passed throughout, the bar was extensive and the DJ knew exactly how to work with the crowd. Needless to say, all my co-workers are now fans of Sortie.
