No complaints! – I went there in Jan 07 for a friend's 25th birthday party. She had a private party there. The music was good because she brought her own DJ. We didn't order any food but were practically forced to buy something, because the waitress kept coming around asking us to buy something. The place is good on the eyes. I would recommend for a private party.
Worst experience ever. Do not go here. Slow service, and the owner will rip you off – I definitely do not recommend this place to anyone. I went to Maya Lounge with some friends to get drinks for my birthday. We went on a Friday night, and there was probably about 10 of us there. First off, the waitress was very slow, and kept forgetting our orders, even though we were the only ones there. We were ordering drinks and food for a good chunk of the night. All of a sudden, a guy walks up to our table and asks us if we want shots. We asked who he was, and after he told us he was the owner, we confirmed that he was going to give us free shots. He gave us two rounds of what we thought were free shots. When we get the bill, he ended us charging us for both! We had to argue with him to take 1 round off. My favorite part is, when we were leaving, he was offering free shots to the table next to us! We had to warn them that he was going to charge them. The bouncer and waitress agreed that what he did was pretty messed up. Worst experience ever! Don't go there, they rip you off. It's such a shame because the place is nice.
Rude Bartender lady...and waitors – I went to Maya lounge twice. Both times had bad experience. There will not be a third time that's for sure. First time i went a few months ago, a friend of mine had a birthday party there. it was a friday after work party at 5pm. It was pretty dead and we got a table in the back. Everyone ordered food and drinks. When I arrived I ordered the 2-for one drink special and some food. When the waitor brought me my drink he stood ther with his tray and asked me and my friend to pay up. We asked if he can wait til we finish eating and drinking and bring us the check he said "You have to pay now"...that was weird and rude very third world country, sorry. did he think i was going to finish my drink and run without paying?
A few months go by and I again am in the area and it's the only bar within a block radius and i needed a quick drink with my girlfriend from a stressful day at work. Little did I know going back to this place was going to add more stress! We walk in after work at 6pm on a friday. Again it's dead. there was an older woman at the bar. I asked if they had happy hour. she replied "yes, 2 for one, and you cannot share, each of you have to get 2 drinks" ok....so i asked "is it all drinks?" she said yes. I ordered a soco and lime shot and my friend ordered a wine. I gave my card to open a tab. My friend then received a drink ticket, and when i didn't, i decided to ask the bartender why. "shots are not part of the happy hour" I had already finished my shot which was puny small by the way. I woulda got a bigger buzz if i poured wine in a bottle cap. I replied to her and said "you didn't tell me that shots aren't part of the happy hour" and with a straight face she replied back "YOU DIDNT ASK"...I again argued that she failed to tell me that considering that I had asked about happy hour ...She again said to me "YOU DIDNT ASK" and walked away. I was pretty pi**ed at how rude she was...We ended up walking out - NO TIP. didn't bother getting a second drink.
Awsome After work specials – Great Afterwork Social, a intimate setting not too over crouded so you can actually have a conversation. What really got me is the 2 for one happy hour specials, and its sooo close to penn station.
Best Chicken Tikka Ever Had, Very Friendly Staff. – I was there a month ago for a friends after work get together, for the first time being there i was sutnned by the decor and the setup, place looks a lil bit High Class. I was amazed by the customer service, I had mentioned the server that I didnt feel too well and my throat was bothering me he quickly sugested some spice in with hot water would make me feel a lil better, and few mins later he made it for me. I was a lil heistant at first, but i tried it and it kinda felt really good. The Foood Was Awsome, the best chiken tikka that i have ever tried... I highly recomend this place for parties and happy hours...
Rude bastards – This is one asss of a restraunt I've been in my life. Rude manager.
The food is cold and stale and we walked out of the restraunt.
Do you want an experience like this when you go out with loved ones?
Avoid... – Bad management, but really nice waitresses. The food was boring and the man that claims to be the boss is extremely rude. There's plenty of better Indian restaurants in NYC.
Not a good birthday experience :-( – We paid to rent the whole space to have a birthday party, but it turned out the manager also rented the lounge to 4 other parties and after talking with the other parties we found out we paid way more than them. The manager was also rude to us and overcharged us for my drinks. My friend who was a party organizer actually talked to him and he gave some money back. One more unfortunate thing was that we saw a big r0ach on the wall of the lounge and in the bathroom :-(
One of the waiters, however, was very nice and helpful and the food was good,
Maya Lounge Awesome place to be – Maya Lounge is the place to be for good food amazing lighting and friendly staff. I have been working in restaurant business for over 10 years and I would highly recommend this place to any of my friends and family. Service knows what they are doing, very attentive.
A tame experience – I found this place by chance on a Wed before going out dining with some friends. I thought the decor was decent. I am an Indian and I initially felt happy that the place is run by one. Then I got a bud light and some attitude from the waitress. She forced a menu on me and said the food was great. The menu dissapointed me as it only had vegetarian food and I politely told the waitress that I wasn't interested as I am a big non-veg food fan. She got surprisingly emotional and I ordered some veg kebabs to make her feel ok. The food was average and the owner who was hanging out there did not even say a hello. The only thing that helped was the hip hop music and some beer that I had. I wish the folks here were more cordial and did not force people their veg fare! The city is full of fun places and I don't recommend this one.
