A great night out! – Dined here several times and really enjoy the place for a special occasion. Came in with some friend from out of town and the staff went out of thier way to make it a great evening for us all. It's a unique place to dine and a terrific spot to catch up. Food is great and I always order the Big Night out with all four courses. Highly recommend the Spinach and Artichoke cheese fondue. If you are into trying something different definately recommend. It is pricey but the majority of menu options are designed for two and include three or four course. Chocolate fondue is amazing. Staff is always there when you need them and service is far above average. Great location since you can go out afterwords to any number of bars or clubs once you are done.
Not worth half what we paid! Very disappointed. – We went to The Melting Po* based on the reviews on this site. We had great expectations so we brought 7 people, 2 being kids. $275 later I am not impressed. The prices are outrageous. I'm not saying that the food is bad, or even just ok. It was decent. The fondue was fantastic. The salad was modern and different tasting. The entrees overall were great with the exception of the surf n turf (which was a tiny amount of food unlike the other entrees which were plentiful). I also need to point out that I never would have gone to this restaurant had I known that my $74 filet minon would be prepared by master chef me. They have you boil all of your food in a choice of broths (some of the spices cost an extra $5) right there at the table. They bring you raw food and give you some recommended cooking times. All of this was a very different experience and 1 that I hope saves some other folks some money and busted expectations. It simply was not worth the price. The staff was very courteous and impressive with how she memorized the orders all around. And my last piece of info, there is a mandatory gratuity of 18% for a party of only 5 people. Avoid the place unless your are hard up for fondue and there is no other place open.
worst experienced, bad service, owner looks and acts like a child – I never will go back after my last experience, the owner was stocking wine in the main lobby in front of the host stand so when we walked in it seemed like we were there off hours, nobody said hi to us, and our server did not explain what we were doing and she gave us cook times for our food that were different from the 2 other servers at other tables. this is a classless experience, especially for the price. don't go.
At the Melting Pot we always strive to exceed the expectations of our guests and appreciate people taking the time to comment on our establishment. If you took the time to read over this review we would like to offer you the ability to come dine with us and formulate your own opinion. Print off a copy of this review and your chocolate fondue will be on us the night that you dine. We appreciate feedback from our guests and hope that this offer gives current and future guests the ability to enjoy our best course on us. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about or restaurant and we hope that you take this as an opportunity to "dip into something different." We hope to see you in our restaurant soon!
The Pittsburgh Melting Pot
It's hip to dip at this cozy fondue-lover's paradise. – In Short
Booths equipped with tabletop fondue pots are clustered together inside the intimate dining room. Start with a cheese fondue, including an assortment of breads, veggies and fruits for dipping. Entrees include lobster, center-cut filet, fish, chicken and vegetarian selections served with a variety of dipping sauces. For dessert, try the flaming turtle, a mix of chocolate and caramel flambéed tableside, served with nut-covered marshmallows, fresh fruit, pound cake, brownies and cheesecake.
Perfect for a special occasion – My boyfriend just took me here for our anniversary and it was absolutely wonderful. When he called in for the reservation they asked if it was a special occasion and he told them that it was. We were seated in a quiet back booth that was very private and hidden behind a wall and there was a beautiful white rose waiting on the table. Our waitress and the entire staff was very friendly and came back to check often. the bill did come to a little over $100 but for a four course meal for two including lobster and filet mignon we didn't think it was too bad. You get to cook the food yourself so it's fun, and you get a large variety. Perfect place for special occasions.
A "Fun" Place to Eat – This is a great place to take a date or spouse. The atmosphere is casual and "playing with your food" makes conversations more fun and relaxed. We got the four-course meal, which is a little pricey (the bill came to over $100 for 2 people), but we will still go back again. If you plan to go in the summer, bring a sweater because they have the air conditioner on high and I was freezing the whole time I was there. Other than that, definitely a good choice for a restaurant.
Definately Different – I wasn't sure what to expect when my wife wanted me to take her out for fondue for her birthday. I was really suprised by the experience and amount of food we had with the Big Night Out dinner for two. Alot of fun, the presentation of the food was great, and they had a ton of wines to pick from. She loves the Conundrum which they serve for much less than any other place I've seen in town. Staff was very polite and attentive. The atmosphere was cozy and the facilities well kept. I highly recommend based on the fact that it is so different. Great food, great service, and great atmosphere make for a great place. It takes a while to dine but I believe that's part of the allure. Make sure you save room for the chocolate because it is amazing. They even served us a champagne toast at the end of our meal to celebrate my wife's birthday. A really nice touch!
Too much grease – I understand that the concept of fondue is to dip your food in hot oil, so my comments are not necessarily about the restaurant itself. The wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was a great place to catch up with old friends we hadn't seen in awhile, however, none of us felt that good the next day. Perhaps it was from eating the oil-soaked food or perhaps it was the food itself - who knows. I just thought it was too pricey and the food was not delicious by any means. So there you have it, food not so good. Environment good.
Wonderful restaurant, great food, nice ambience – What a wonderful restaurant. The food is top-notch and the fondue is very fitting especially on a cold Winter night. The ambience is great - romantic or fun with friends. The desserts are amazing. It is a restaurant where you should plan to spend several hours conversing and enjoying the food. I cannot say enough good about this restaurant.
loved, loved, loved the fondue – the cheese fondue appetizer was so delicious and the chocolate fondue desserts were wonderful! not a huge fan of cooking my own food, but was an entertaining night out. great service and fabulous atmosphere.
