Great customer service and quality food. – Great place for a quiet business lunch. The service was very attentive and efficient. The salad selection was good. The entress range from chicken to pork to seafood. Very distinctive menu selection. Great mango ice tea but can bring your own bottle if appropriate to the occasion. Lovely decorated old home off lovers. Very creative chef.

Great dining. – Having been to Eden numerous times, we have always been impressed with the food and service. Eden is not Jack in the Box; the food is elegant: lovely to behold in presentation and taste. The service is always good and unobtrusive. The latency between arrival at Eden, ordering and arrival of the food is mitigated by the variety of excellent baked goods served up as an appetizer. Sufficient time is allowed to savor these delights. (If you want more butter, ask for it; the purpose of fine dining is to please, not to founder.)

Chef's soups are often not what the average diner might expect, they are delightful. Where else in this price range can you be surprised and delighted by chilled soups when it is hot outside and hot soups when the weather turns nippy. My favorite however is the composed salad; my recommendation is go to Eden if for no other reason than to behold the salad; it is a work of art and the house dressing is scrumptious.

A side note: in the editorial review the reviewer mentioned the chef's propensity for creating dishes, especially baked goods, as the mood strikes her. My advice: go with the chef's mood for a treat.

Another real plus of Eden is the menu variety. Granted there is a printed menu with great choices like the sage burger which has had rave reviews in D magazine and the daily quiches. (Kahn's quiches have a mouth feel that is smoother and creamer than any I have had elsewhere. Real men do eat quiche and the clever, Eden's quiche.) If you are an adventuresome diner, ask about what sorts of off menu dishes the chef might have hiding in the kitchen; there usually are a couple. And, if meat and potatoes is as far afield as you go, Eden has you covered as well. If the kids are along and are picky eaters, there is even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the menu.

On every visit to Eden, the food will be a little different; revel in it. It is always prepared fresh by skilled staff under the chef's supervision and often, by the chef.

Gourmet food in a relaxed atmosphere – As a long time customer of Eden, it is about itme I took the opportunity to sing it's praises. Nestled in a period home from the 50's, Eden has been providing it's customers with wonderful food and service for several years.. Chef Karen Kahn is a gifted chef with passion for food and taking care of her customers. Every meal we have enjoyed in her restaurant has been wonderful. Some of our favorites are her arranged salads which are works of art with the house artichoke dressing, mmmmm...good enough to eat with a spoon (which I have done on occasion). My husband's favorite is her Frenh dip sandwich with rare roast beef cooked to perfection. When he wants comfort food, meatloaf is always his choice since she has raised that common entree to new heights of flavor with her burgandy mushroom sauce. Since my tastes range wildly, Chef Karen always comes up with the right suggestion for my mood. During our last meal there, I enjoyed her wonderful tomatos. layered with fresh mozzarella and dressed with basalmic vinegar and basil with a bowl of her delightful potato salad. As always, I finished my meal with the most perfect chocolate mousse I have ever eaten.

We have found Eden to be the perfect place for celebrations where we can entertain family and friends in a homelike atmosphere. In all our visits we have tried many of the items on her menu and found nothing that was not excellent, both in presentation and taste. Cost is very reasonable for the unique touches which always please and surprise us.

Could be a good find with improved food and service! – Delightful decor and atmosphere, but do you not go for the food and service as well? My first experience tonight will be my last --

first course -- spoiled,

second course -- mediocre and not hot,

service -- the worst!!!!

Be advised that butter is rationed to a fingernail sized portion. You cannot get enough butter to spread on a whole piece of bread. $5.00 to open your wine. Is this not a restaurant with California pretensions, except you often get what you pay for in California?!

Great Food – This is my first time to submit a review. I decided to check this place out after finding it here on citysearch. Me and my girlfriend made it a double date night with another couple. After we went to a movie we stopped into Eden?s. It was on off night, Monday, so there wasn?t very many people there. It is classy enough to take your date to but relaxed enough to have a good time. First up was the bread. Incredible, multiple different kinds, banana nut bread, bit sized carrot bread muffins, zucchini bread, bite sized blue berry muffins, and more. On the second basked of bread that they brought to us there was no zucchini bread in there and we didn?t say anything, we just started eating the other kinds that they had. A few minutes late the waiter (Owner) came to our table with a whole loaf of zucchini bread and explained that they had no more thawed out so he gave us a whole loaf for free to take home. That was way beyond what was expected. Then the salads, and soups were great also. I had a regular old hamburger with cheese, however, It was the BEST hamburger I have ever eaten. I had it gone in to time. My girlfriend had a meatloaf sandwich, absolutely perfect. Our friend had a hamburger with cheese as well and he also said it was the best burger he had ever eaten. I don?t remember what his wife had but she said it was great. For desert we had chocolate cheesecake. It was amazing as well, not to rich, just right. When the check came out it had with it four dark chocolate dipped strawberries. It was a great ending to an amazing dining experience. There is also a screened in dining patio with water fountain, it is big enough for a wedding reception or birthday party. I read other people reviews that said there was no corking fee, however as of when I went 3-17-08 there was a $5.00 corking fee. This is a must try.

mpm45's review is just sour grapes! – Eden has the best homemade food on lovers lane. Also look them up on the Health Inspections web site : they have always made in the mid 90's on their inspections. I believe that mpm45 is from Tart Bakery ; trying to cause trouble for the folks at Eden, their competition. (Really no competition really : Eden is much better, hands down.) mpm45 rates 6 places in one day on citysearch and only dissed the best one. Why? Sounds like a personal problem mpm45 has. Notice how they do not say what was actually wrong? Try Eden for yourself. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!

BEST FIND, BEST FOOD!!!! – I found this place on CitySearch and decided to stop in after reading the reviews. I discovered that everything everyone wrote couldn't be more true!!!!!! The baked brie melts in your mouth, the Mexican corn chowder was so tasty - both sweet and spicy at the same time and the the sage burger is by far the best burger I have EVER had! The flavors are so unique and distinct, and to make things even better, I was able to bring my favorite wine, with no corking fee! The prices are beyond reasonable. Eating at Eden is a unique culinary experience.

Small restaurant tucked inside a converted house Lovers Lane delights with freshly baked goodies and well-prepared gourmet dishes. – The Scene
The small white house features colorful art and Mexican ceramics on the white walls. The hardwood floors look and sound original, adding to the ambience's charm. Several rooms house the tables with white table clothes. Patrons vary from young couples enjoying a date to older groups in conversation. Service is spotty, but well intended.

The Food
Among the highlights at Eden are the baked goods brought to each table in a basket: bited-sized muffins and slices of fresh bread (full loafs of banana nut bread, zuccini bread and more are available for carry out). The Texas Bullets appetizer of cheese stuffed jalepenos wrapped in bacon pack a punch. Quiches come in daily varieties and are light and fluffy. There are also daily seasonal soups. The prime rib proves baked goods are not the single success, as it was juicy and tender.

Hits: Apparently, Chef Karen Kahn bakes different things based on her mood--and it works.

Misses: Service is mostly amateur and requires a little patience.

Rare Find – Four of us dined at Eden Cafe on Saturday evening, June 9. Eden Cafe is a rare find in restaurants - good selection (not 500 choices to which no kitchen can do justice), very good service, a chef (Karen Kahn) who obviously cares greatly about her fare, wonderful desserts after the wonderful main courses, yet unassuming.

The restaurant is set in a converted home on Lovers Lane. One could easily pass it. "Cute" is not a great descriptor, but it works, possibly in conjunction with homey. In any case the seating is quite comfortable.

We had Shrimp en croute, Shrimp Creole, Beef Lasagne, and Meat Loaf. With dishes such as Beef Lasagne and Meat Loaf, one would not expect much excitement; but Chef Kahn exhibited a great touch with these relatively mundane dishes. The Shrimp en croute was simply wonderful, full of shrimp done perfectly with a surrounding delicates crust. The Shrimp Creole did not overpower, allowing the delicious taste of the shrimp to dominate rather than an overly piquant sauce.

Eden Cafe is a BYOB reataurant, which is perfect for us. The prices of wines in restaurants have gone off the charts, and it's great to bring your own wine(s) suited for the meal.

Hat's off to Chef Kahn and her staff!
