Blue Koi Closed – This Sushi Bar was good when it was open however it has been closed since October 2008
Terrible food and service – We had a reservation on Valentines Day and arrived a few minutes early. When we arrived, there were several couples ahead of us, but no one at the hostess stand. We waited for 10 minutes before anyone came to the front of the restaurant, although there were quite a few people working there that saw the crowd. No one waiting was greeted or given any sort of attention. We were finally seated, however the service continued to tank from there. Service was extremely slow. When our server came to take our order, there were no "hello, welcome", etc., just "what can I get you". We had to ask the bus boy for refills on our drinks, since we never saw our server again. Just as we were deciding to leave, the soup came out - maybe 20-25 minutes after we were seated. Then another agonizing wait for the appetizer. Again as we were ready to bail, the sushi finally arrived. The nigiri had a terrible taste, almost plastic like. Two hours later, another server came over and asked how our meal was; we told him it was terrible! He said the sushi wasn't bad, you can tell if it's sticky that it's old. Old wasn't the issue, it was the taste. He said it was mild, well, that wasn't the issue either. He said sorry for the service, they were just busy since it was Valentine's Day. This of all days, they should be trying to impress people and giving great service. We saw quite a few frustrated people in the restaurant. The couple next to us said they'd been there 2 1/2 hrs and they were still waiting for their check as we were leaving. (The only reason we got ours is because my husband went to the front and asked for the check and to pay right then). This place came highly recommended by a friend, but I can honestly say we will not go back again.
Blue Koi Rocks – We decided to check Blue Koi out last Sunday, based mostly on the fact that we had a $25 gift certificate, but also partially on the reviews we've seen. They lived up to our expectations for food, but service was a little lacking. We had several rolls, and tried some nigiri, as well. All was very good; I'd have to put it up near Sushi Den, actually! Our favorite was the Aurora roll; basically an Alaska roll deep fried. Very tasty! The seaweed salad was tasty, as well, with a nice toasted sesame flavor and a good portion for the price.
Like I mentioned, the service was lacking. They were not busy that night (about 5:30 on a Sunday night), and we ended up waiting about 45 minutes between ordering our sushi and actually eating it. I recommend ordering your sushi in two waves, so that you get some sooner AND later. With two young kids, it was extremely difficult, to say the least. On the positive side, though, they were very accommodating, and brought our 3 year old some miso soup with rice in it, which she absolutely loved! They even gave her a flower-shaped lollipop when we left. I'd have to say that they are fairly kid-friendly, but they lack a changing station in the restrooms - very inconvenient for both mother and 11 month-old child.
I thought we paid a reasonable price (maybe a little high for Aurora?) for an excellent dinner. Overall, it was excellent food, with attentive, albeit slow service. Definitely recommended for families, and those on a sort-of budget. I also recommed going to Resaurant-dot-com to get a gift certificate for $25, and paying only $6 or less for it - makes it even better. :-) Nice ambience, with that cool industiral look made popular by Chipotle, fish tanks, and for some reason, TVs in the dining area. There is also a hibachi room for parties (I'm sure by reservation).
Absolutely the best Sushi and Customer Service! – Blue Koi is one of the best sushi places I've ever eaten at, and I've eaten ate many (I'm from L.A., which seems to be "Sushi Heaven."). Not only is the food, including the menu items, terrific, the people here are SO nice and customer-service oriented. Grace, Jessica and everyone else there are the sweetest people.
I have been eating at Blue Koi for two years now. Not only do we dine in to enjoy wonderful food and atmosphere, they are kind enough to deliver to us (which we order in anywhere from 2-4 times a week), even in the worse of snow storms. The sushi chefs there always accommodate my son, who likes his sushi a specific way, and myself when I want a little "extra of this," or "less of that." The staff here always go out of their way to make our dinner perfect.
Blue Koi has now opened their Hibachi cooking tables this last weekend, which we attended, and I have to say -- "WHAT A TREAT!" The chef was the best I've ever seen, and did tricks like I've never seen before. And, the food...SUPERB!!
We are business owners too (a law firm downtown), and we believe in networking and only referring good quality people and businesses to others. I stand behind this review 100% and I would not jeopardize my own reputation with a false statement (or just because we eat there all the time). We have the money to eat anywhere we want, but we always choose Blue Koi!
Good sushi – Servers are always pleasent, happy to make changes if we ask. I'd rather they didn't surcharge the take-out.
Great Sushi – They have a large variety of sushi choices and non-sushi choices. I would recomend their specialty of the Blue Koi roll...it is very delicious.
Most wonderful sushi!! – My husband and I get delivery service from this place on a weekly basis -- sometimes, we'll order several times a week. If we're out and about doing errands, we always decide to go here for lunch. We absolutely LOVE, not only the food, but the wonderful people who work here. Even in below zero weather, they have delivered food to me -- they take really good care of their customers!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place!!
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors – Sashimi, handrolls, teriyaki, tempura, udon and more served at individual tables or at the sushi bar.
Great Sushi & ambiance! – I enjoyed the dining experience. Great sushi, nice decor, and friendly staff. Would definitely go back again!
