Great Neighborhood Spot!. Great casual environment with a great wine list. A little on the loud side. Good place to meet friends.
disappointing. i was excited to check this place out since it is basically in my neighborhood but was disappointed by the experience. while i liked the space (despite being small) and the decor, the food was really nothing to write home about. wines were phenomenal, staff wasn't exactly as attentive as i am used to but was very quick when waiting for us to pay...dessert was probably the only item i consumed aside from wine that i felt was worth what i paid...overall not impressed on food but worth a trip for the wine
came here with a couple coworkers after a long long day.
expensive prices for small pieces of food that just wasn't worth it i thought.
wine, sure. i'm whining, maybe. i just don't understand ... maybe rent isn't cheap
Was not impressed with this closet of a space with cheap metal tables. I knew things weren't going to go well when the "host" asked us to cram into a two top literally 4 inches from another table. I asked them to not put anyone next to us as it was crowded as is and everyone would have to get up to let them in. The host was very rude and arrogant at that point. The food was presented well, but was lousy and was not of a professional quality. The wines, however, were great. Our server was intelligent yet aloof and slow. However she picked some great wines.
Go for the wine, sit at the bar. Eat somewhere else.
good food, bad service.
The first time we ate at CAV, the food was delicious (the ahi/ wild mushroom / steak tartar plate was wonderful; the cheese plate was devine) BUT the service was terrible! There was a noticable lack of communication between waitstaff . We had to repeatedly ask for things (3, 4 times) before they would appear. If we had a waiter assigned to us, I have no idea who he/she was-- various people (whoever we could flag down) would periodically arrive with things for the table. Halfway through our meal, I mistook the busboy for our waiter. He was the only helpful, receptive one in the bunch. Twenty minutes after we ordered a second bottle of wine, the busboy had to finally retreive it for us. The owner did come over as bring us some complimentary desserts-- which were scrumptous-- and, due to that hostpitality, we made the (TBD'd BAD )choice of returning.
Last weekend, we walked in and asked if they had a table for two. The hostess, after an upturned nose,a long pause, and a "do you have a reservation", said, "Yes, we have a table." We followed her to the back, where there was a two-top with one seat. When we asked if there was another chair, she said, "No, another table is using it". Kicking myself that I somehow forgot to ask if having a table meant having two seats, we left and went next door to Zuni. Stupid me. From now on, if I'm in the area and need a fantastic cheese plate and a glass of wine, I'll head to Hotel Biron, and for food, Zuni, of course.
great wine-great food. YUM ! Had a great time at CAV. The place was bustling, the staff friendly and knowledgable. Enjoyed to menu...and loved the pork belly. I have found a new "home".
Great Wines....Good Food. This is a good place for a date. I have been here 3 times so far and I would continue to go back. The small bar area is a nice place to hang and have a drink. The food (or small bites) is good, however don't get the porkbelly, it's gross!!! Not sure why anyone would put that on a menu, who wants to eat fat???
Cheese selection is to die for!. Went on a Friday night with reservations and was seated immediately by friendly staff. The restaurant was somewhat loud...I recommend requesting a table towards the back which is where we sat. Had some of the best food ever offered in a wine bar and the cheese plate was to die for! Wine selections were limited in some areas, especially reds by the glass. I would have liked to see more local varietals. Our server was attentive, prompt and efficient. Prices were very reasonable for portion size and wine pour. I would definitely return, but allow extra time as parking is extremely limited!!
Amazing wine list!. This is the perfect wine bar....lively, the menu changes with the season and the interior is chic. The one thing this place is not is quiet. If you are looking for a quiet intimate dinner for two, i wouldn't recommend it. Otherwise, a great meeting place for friends who enjoy trying great wines, and not just California wines!
Stlyish setting, great service- even when crowded, unique food. We had a great dining experience on a busy Thursday night at Cav. Plus were the fact that you can get half portions- of any food or wine- and they only charge you exactly half of a full portion/pour (a rarity these days) . We tasted 7 different wines (ranging from $3.5-$7) and shared 3 "small" food portions (ranging in price from $5-$11), plus an awesome antipasto plater with 3 great cheeses, a sampler of salumi, marianted and grilled onions, plus 2 mini-toasts with different spreads for $16. The only minus was the warm peach cobbler-like dessert with its overbearing cherry and nut flavor.
