Really good food, HORRIBLE customer service – We have been going to and ordering from Mai over the last year or so and have always been really satisfied with the quality of food. We, however, have had pretty bad experiences with their customer service. When dining in, we have waited as long as 50 minutes from when we order to when we are served our food. It's been rare that they bring our food out in a timely manner. We understand that things happen, especially when they're busy, but they don't even offer an explanation, or come to let us know that the food will be out soon. There is just no sense of keeping the customer informed.

Our most recent terrible experience with their customer service was when we called for delivery. About 45 minutes had passed and still no sign of the food. Then, the delivery man called us, frantic, apparently at the wrong building. Because he was unfamiliar with the area, he was unable to even tell me where he was in order for me to guide him to our building. Because of the added fact that there was a language barrier, he hung up on me. Then when I called the restaurant to explain the situation, the hostess/server could only tell me, "Oh.. he new. I call him." When 15 more minutes passed and still no delivery guy, I called the restaurant back. Again, the hostess could only offer me, "Ohhh...he new." That was all she could say. No apology, no status update on what he said when she called him, nothing.

I understand that things happen, people get lost, food gets swapped, kitchen events occur, etc. My point is, the woman I spoke with had no clue about how to handle or ameliorate the situation. While I love the food there, there are plenty of other Pan-Asian cuisine restaurants in the area that I won't miss it.

Wonderful food, warm service, lovely ambiance – I took a friend of mine here for a delectable meal of grilled fish, noodles, and shrimp pancakes. While there aren't many Vietnamese offerings in the immediate area, Mai would go head-to-head with some of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the city. I won't go into menu recommendations, as this is a wonderful place for your own exploration, though I do have to make one exception: get the shrimp pancakes appetizer. Absolutely delicious. If I'm sent to hell for not eating Kosher, I'll at least have the wonderful memory of the taste of this dish!

While I went with a friend, I must say it's a great place for a date. The staff are pleasant and attentive, and unlike those at the majority of New York City restaurants, seem to have very real affection for their jobs. Don't hesitate to ask questions - they're there to ensure that you have a delightful experience.

Five stars for Mai. I'll most definitely be back!

Best Vietnamese cuisine that I ever tasted in Brooklyn – What I know is that after I tasted the "PHO" and "CABAM" Oh! yes the Grill Calamari stuffed with glass noodle ,shrimp with a bit sour taste of turmeric dipping sauce,. It tasted so good, fresh and very reasonable price. . Another reason why I like to dine in "MAI" is that the environment is so well coming. When you eat inside the dining room you feel like in Vietnam and when you eat outside garden you feel like you are on vacation in "Bali". So far I see mostly customer are New Yorker . Of course I will recommend my friends and family to eat in Mai. Good food, good service, good environment. The garden is the best place for parties.

Greatest authentic Asian food, comfort and romantic atmosphere, great customer service – One Wednesday evening my friend and I just wanted to taste food that is authentic. We just came home visiting Vietnam. We wanted to compare the different Asian food in America and in Asia. So we decided to drop by Mai Restaurant at Atlantic Ave. So we went and we tried the crispy shrimp pancake, pho and bolulac. My god fantastic! The shrimp pancake taste as authentic as in Vietnam but I like this one better because the shrimp shell is off from the shrimp and the sauce is so yummy. The pho's soup is so pure and is so fragrance with fresh herbs. The bolulac according to one of the customer who sat next to our table said, he ordered the bolulac every time he comes. He also said the best bolulac he ever tasted in New York. Another great dish was the dessert flan. When you put the flan into your mouth, your lips smile. I will definitely come and bring my friends again to enjoy this great food, romantic, comfortable and well coming customer service. I just felt like in heaven!

Very Average Food – Very surprised at the raves about food. This is yet another very average, if not bad, Pan-Asian themed restaurant. Most of them are not great but edible, everything we have tried in Mai was pretty bad. Overfried, not salted enough or just plain bland. We had a group of 4 so I tried half the menu and nothing stood out as worthwhile. Don't waste your time.

Wonderful experience – The girls and I went to dinner Saturday night at 7pm. We were given ample time to look at the menu and talk before someone came over to take our order. We were asked if we were on a time schedule for BAM or any other type of activity. When we replied no, they were very considerate and did not rush us. We brought our own bottle of wine, unaware they had a small wine list, which they charged a $10 corkage fee for (reasonable). When we were ready to order the waitress was very helpful in making suggestions regarding entrees and the best rice to have with them. The food was delicious, flavorful, cooked perfectly and perfect portion size. We did not leave feeling hungry. My only small complaint was that we had ordered a side of Bok Choy and we had to ask for it 2 times after our food came. The coffee is fabulous, made with condensed milk. As we were leaving, we were asked if we had seen the garden. When we replied no, we were shown immediately to the back of the reastaurant where we saw the garden eating area available during the warmer months. I want to thank all the servers at the restaurant for a wonderful dining experience. I will definitely be going back.

Best Mee Goreng and Small Plates Special (Happy Hour) – Simply Delicious!!! We live in Carroll Gardens which is known to have some great restaurants so you would think I don't need to travel out of the area for good Southeast Asian Cooking. But "Mai" is so yummy that we travel the distance just to eat their food. The Small Plates specials from 4 to 7pm is fabulous. For just $15 you get two glasses of wine (I picked Chadonnay) and three appetizers. When I'm here with my family for dinner I love the Mee Goreng. It's simply the best Mee Goreng I ever had. My husband loves the Duck in Ginger Wine Sauce. We are trying to work our way through the menu, but you know how difficult that can be when you love a specific dish on the menu. My kids are crazy about Pho. The beef broth is really delicous and satisfying.

Great food and pleasant atmosphere – With all of the new places opening up along Atlantic Avenue, Mai has been a blessing. The atmosphere is simple and pleasing. The food is simply fantastic. Now this is not your typical Asian restaurant. The food is very cleanly cooked with no evidence of grease or msg. They are also quite vegetarian and vegan friendly.

It's tough to know where to start when reviewing the food, as I've tried nearly everything on the menu. The only exception are items with glass noodles. They're simply not my thing.

The appetizers are light and flavorful. I love the scallop dumplngs as well as the fried tofu with peanut sauce. For a real treat, try the calamari stuffed with shrimp or the diced monkfish. The monkfish is simply out of this world. By the way, the hot and sour soup is possibly the best in the city. That definitely takes the chill off of a cold winters day.

The noodles have always satisfied me quite well. If you've ever tried mee goreng, you will quickly realize that you've never really had it after eating it here. Nicely spiced and fantastic. Other recommendations in the noodle sectioin are the two types of hutieu.

The entrees are widely varied in terms of taste. Ranging from spicy chicken or shrimp with lemongrass to an exquisite sea bass wrapped in banana leaf to a beautiful roasted duck. There is something for everybodies taste buds.....spicy, aromatic, mild, or succulent.

You may have to wait a little bit longer for certain items, but it's well worth it. I spoke to the owner about it and he explained that everything is made fresh. You will understand it from your first bite.

For drinks, there is a small but nice selection of beers, wines, and sakes.

Take my word for it. Since Mai has opened up down the street from me, they have been a welcome and much needed addition to the neighborhood. I eat there a few times a week and am never disappointed.

Bon Appetit!!!

Bad Food, Annoying Attitude – Everything went wrong in this restaurant. The tap water, besides not being filtered, echoed of something stagnant. A glass of Riesling wasn't chilled, it was frozen. The green tea was bitter and tasteless. But despite my misgivings my friend and I ordered appetizers and dinner anyway (we were starving). The appetizer scallop dumplings were almost inedible. The dough was tough and undercooked while the scallop inside was tough and overcooked. Hot and sour soup was ok but on the bland side. The worst was my Malasyan seafood noodles in spicy coconut milk. I eat Thai/Vietnamese/Malasyan food all the time so I know what it should taste like- savory, a bit sweet/sour and spicy. But this was extremely sour and more bitter then hot. I very politely told the waiter about the problem and send the soup back (without any scenes or asking for my money back and told him it's not a big problem) Yet while I tried to enjoy the other part of my meal the manager came up to us 4 times to inquire again and again why did I think that it was sour when, according to the chef, it wasn't. And of course we were charged for it. Leaving no tip I felt a bit vindicated but am still very surprised that places like this still continue to survive.

Experience authentic Southeast Asian dining with a creative twist – It's a great find. This beautifully decorated red and yellow restaurant has a backyard garden that transport you to Bali or some exotic tropical paradise and makes you feel like you're on vacation. The ambience in the main dining room is equally warm and relaxing. The dishes are unique, mostly light but tasty. The seafood dishes are refreshing and noodle soups and dumplings are divine. The duck is succulent. Prices are reasonable and small plates (happy hour) from 4:30-7:30 is a bargain: $15 for 2 drinks and 3 appertizers, a la carte prices are just as good. This restaurant is definitely worth a try.
