Clean, Friendly Korean Restaurant – I have been going to Shilla since last year. The staff is very freindly especially John -who is my favorite server. The place is very clean with a decor (which is very rare for a korean restaurant). The service is fast, prompt. The food is good - better than any other K. Reastaurants in K. Town.
Taste awful!!! Rude staffs!!! – I took my co-workers there and was the only Korean. Wanted to introduce Korean foods to them.
We ordered Kalbi, Shrimp barbeque, Japchae (Clear noodle), Spicy squid, Mandoo (dumpling), etc.
The quality of Kalbi was not good, Clear noodle was not tasty and too sticky because cooked a while ago.
Spicy squid was only spicy and too saulty. Ban-chan (side dishes) was disappointing.
When we were done, they brought us check and came to our table every two seconds to see if we paid yet.
Especially the guy with suits and earpiece on the 3rd floor was soooooo rude. He basically kicked us out.
I was so embarassed in front of my co-workers. He said there were people lining up downstairs waiting to be seated. But there were no people when we went downstairs. Cannot forget the look he shot at us.
I will never go back there. I heard their business is down hill. Now I understand why.
MMMmmm...can't wait to go back! – I was lucky enough to find myself here for a rehearsal dinner last month. There was a lot of food brought out and I could identify at least two types of bbq meat that was grilled, plus a wide assortment of other dishes that unfortunately I can't name. The bbq was the main attraction and to that, I can speak volumes about how good it was! Korean bbq meat has a sweetness to it that makes it pretty unique I think. It's the kind of meat that's so good you would never be able to give it up to become a vegetarian. At least for me, that would be the line I would draw. The atmosphere here also lends itself to higher-end dining. Like sparkling granite tables (trust me, it's more tasteful than it sounds) and dark mood lighting. It was packed on a Saturday night so I'm sure other people have found this place to their liking as well. I am waiting for an opportunity to go back when I can.
Good Kalbi. – The quality of the meat of their Kalbi is good. The waiter/tresses are attentive enough to pay attention to the meat and have it cooked perfectly. The ban-chan is good enough and numerous. Overall a good experience. Although you don't get the value as you would get if you went somplace in NJ, esp on pallisade avenue.
Unbelivable, terrible Service! – I took my mother and grandparents who are from korea here and we were very disapointed because the employes were SO rude to us. They did not pay attention and forgot things then one waitress and the girl in charge were fighting in front of the customers. The food was ok but not too special. When they first open it was good price for the amounts of food but now they are getting more cheaper every time. I was embarass to bring my special families there and now I can not go back even for drinking with friends because there service is to terrible here
Amazing! – Best korean bbq on 32nd, by far. The portions are large and the marinade is perfect. What also sets them apart from all the other places is the number of side dishes! The decor is very clean and modern, so it's the perfect place for gatherings of all types. We've taken a number of friends there and it's unanimous, they all agree its the best bbq. The other restaurants around there don't compare.
Palate Pleaser!! – Bite my tongue, Shilla's dishes are as good as Mama's cooking! A discerning taste critic will enjoy their dishes. Shilla produces authentic dishes with clean precision to the palate. Their dishes are not inundated with confusing flavors. The BBQ has a very clean taste, without the "beefy" taste under the marinade. The appetizers (bahnchans) are varied and plenty. All the ingrediants used are ultra fresh, especially the vegetables. Their Silver Cod dish is notably delicious, sweet & spicy. Shilla also makes a terrific, true Dwenjangjjigae, a staple Korean stew, and Nengmyun.
My friends, and even my parents and in-laws, are Shilla fans. It's also a great meeting place for a large group, and don't need to worry about making reservations, since they have three floors of seating.
Major let-down – I've been to every restaurant in K town multiple times, so when Shilla opened I was excited to try a new restaurant. What a mistake! I expected so much but got so little, literally. The proportions are small, and the prices are expensive for what you get. The food taste okay, but it is ruined by the service. The side dishes are nothing special either. Save your money and try another restaurant.
Best Korean BBQ on 32nd – Not sure why it took so long for us to try Shilla. We went there recently with family for Korean BBQ. Having tried BBQ at all of the restaurants on 32nd, this is by far the best. Family visiting from Los Angeles also admitted it was one of the best they had. The quantity of meat is almost double that of other restaurants, and quality and marinade is the best. They also have excellent ventilation, so you don't smell as smokey as the other places when you leave.
They seem to have revamped the side dishes as well...we counted 10 items plus individual salads. The decor is very modern and clean and makes all of the other BBQ places seem anitquated. No need to go anywhere else for Korean BBQ - this is simply the best in Manhattan.
Korean BBQ – Definately the best new restaurant on 32nd Street! Great interior, delicious food, great service! 3 floors of seating and inviting lighting! the afterhours menu is very cheap!! must visit again!
