I wouldn't shop there! – I'm sorry that the last reviewer has not had the experience that I have had at Diane T. We are not troubled people. Perhaps you should take a step back from her beautiful clothes to see how judgmental the staff at Diane T really is. I was told that I wouldn't find anything that fits me when I entered the store. Yes, I am overweight, but I was there buying a gift for a friend, and I didn't need to be insulted like that. I would never set foot in that store again.
great store that gets bad reviews by troubled people – I have read some of these reviews and I had to come on here and write something in defense of my favorite store.
This site is a disaster, because of people who abuse it by writing nonsense.
I read one of the reviews and it said how rude the staff was one day, and then she says she came back the next day to get more stuff. Ok how rude could they be if you came back the very next day to buy more?
And as for the person who wrote "If you like discrimination and would have been a segregationalist fifty years ago, this shop is for you." all I have to say is that is a DISGUSTING thing to write, and it should be removed. The people who write this kind of stuff just do not sound rational.
Do yourself a favor and don't listen to any of this stuff. I've shopped there since it opened 9 years ago and I love the store.
For the record I am a young customer who can't afford to shop much, and I am always treated well by everyone there. So to answer the question, "what do you have to do to pass the screen test?" I'd say it's to be nice (and sane).
Beware rude owner and staff – I've shopped here a few times because I really like the merchandise. However, I won't go anymore due to overall rudeness and shameful behavior from the owner and staff. During a recent experience, I selected some clothes with the help of a salesperson. It was more than I could afford, so I asked her to help me edit it down. She almost walked away in disgust. When I came back the next day because I'd decided to purchase more of my selection, no one would talk to me and I heard them saying things behind my back. I left immediately, but still wonder - how in the heck do you have any customers at all, especially with so many place to shop??
SHAMEFUL SERVICE, SNOTTY OWNER/STAFF – If you like discrimination and would have been a segregationalist fifty years ago, this shop is for you. The staff and owner STRAIN and STRUGGLE to be civil to women who don't pass their "screen test" - based on what, I'm not sure. It's like stepping into that scene in Pretty Women with the horribly hypocritical shopkeepers, and I've shopped all around the world in lots of discriminating places. If I could give them a zero star, I would. (and they are not having bad days; I've been here tons of times, and yes, bought stuff - but no more!)
Diane T, best clothing store in Brooklyn – I just have to say how un-true these comments are! My whole entire wardrobe is from Diane T and I only have ever had great service. The clothes are beautiful and they have everything from the basic splendid tee shirt to a beautiful golden goose boots. everyone There is always super helpful and sweet. Check them out!
level of customer service is dependent on one's get-up – as a brooklyn resident, i gave this store the benefit of the doubt in spite of having read negative reviews about it from reliable sources. i've been there twice and was ignored both times. could it be my old navy hoodie?? puhleeeease...
as much as i love to support local business, i cannot stand snotty, pretentious attitude.
Ridiculous – No, its not your imagination- I recently experiences the wrath of Diane T, and I will never shop there again. I refuse to buy anything from anyone who doesnt appreciate the business. Our neighborhood in Cobble Hill is small, so its confusing why the owner thinks that people will continue to go back to her shop, when there are plenty of great shops in our neighborhood that certainly better. My suggestion? go to Dear Fieldbinder on Smith, and you will find what you need.
Ugh. – I'm in agreement with the others, here--the collection is consistently appealing and well-presented, but I'll avoid shopping there anymore. I don't have strong feelings about the sales staff, but the owner herself is *awful*--I've somehow managed to fly under her nasty radar and browse in peace, but I've watched her being unspeakably rude to two different customers, who were themselves behaving perfectly properly. Maybe she could get away with this kind of thing when she first opened and neighborhood competition wasn't as stiff, but now that people can stroll just a few blocks in any direction to other, more pleasant boutiques, she'd best shape up.
Attention badly needed? – Every salesgirl in the store was on the phone and giving you attitude and ignoring you at the same time? Tough to believe, sounds made up or just a personal issue, I bought nothing when I went in and was still helped out of the store with my groceries even though I just browsed. I agree with the other comment, some people must just need extra attention. I love not being hounded about "what I'm looking for" and "if I need help" every 2 min. This is one place you can browse without feeling followed.
Come on now – Ohhh please. I just came on here to search for some new brooklyn stores to sell my line to, and I am in shock that anyone has anything negative to say about it. Girls don't do yourself dirty by being caddy. The clothes are HOT, and the service is real. They will not try to play you and say things look good when they don't. Obviously some of you need some extra attention, but don't hate. This store offers one of the best selection's of better womens clothing out there... not just in brooklyn, i mean in NYC!
