Best burger in Brooklyn – I love Dumont Burger. Let me say it again. I love Dumont Burger. It is a cozy, simple space that serves consistently good bar food. The beef burger is thick and juicy, placed on toasted ciabatta buns, and comes with a pile of fries or green salad. The vegetarian burger kind of reminds me of a falafel and is also delicious. I tend to have the beef burger when I go, but it's very hard to resist their mac and cheese which is fantastic.
A tiny bar with good burgers.... – Dumont serves good burgers and cooks them precisely to your specifications (a well-done burger leans on the burnt side) but lacks in just about everything else. Though the burger is good, the fries are not thick cut and are a bit oily.
My biggest gripe is the space and seating arrangements, which is practically non-existent. If you?re seeking a relaxed, comfortable setting to be with friends, this is definitely not the place. Seating includes uncomfortable stools along the bar and/or the benches in the main space, which is so tiny. It?s a bit unorthodox watching a waitress walk around taking orders in a place so small with no tables.
Dumont Burger is not a restaurant but a small bar with a kitchen. There are many more places that can offer just as good a burger that are more comfortable with nicer decor.
Over it. – I've been to Dumont Burger on several occasions, and have always been a big fan of the food and the decor, but after a number of really bad delivery experiences I think I have to call it quits. The other night the order we placed took well over an hour (okay, we had been warned that it could take an hour, but still...why an hour for a couple of burgers?) and by the time the food arrived it was ICY cold. Which is not how I like my french fries. I think you know what I mean. When I called to complain, the response I got was "Well, what do you expect? It's cold outside." Seriously? How about not sending the poor delivery guy out walking with eight (count 'em, e-i-g-h-t) uninsulated orders on a night when it's 15 degrees outside. And the reply from the guy on the phone (or lack thereof) was lousy. Not a credit, not an offer to re-deliver...nothing. I can't believe that the chef or the owner would want to offer their normally delicious product under such crappy conditions. I can't patronize a place that doesn't value its customers.
the wait is too long, the location is too cool, and the burgers are too expensive! – burgers are overpriced but great, HOWEVER, the wait is SO long that it is just NOT WORTH IT. i have been there 3 times, and have had to wait for a burger for an average of over 30 minutes - for a burger! and this is their specialty! last time, i was there, i was ready to jump into the kitchen and give the cook a hand flipping those burgers. there were only 5 other people at the restaurant when i walked in and i still had to wait (about 45 minutes this last time!). again, their burgers are great - superb, i would say - but definitely NOT worth the excruciating wait. $10 and 45 minutes later, and you somehow feel like you've been robbed. the place seems to be riding the coattails of bedford avenue cool. i, for one, will never go in there again.
Totally Solid – Great burger - particularly like the mini; delicious mac and cheese (too big a portion); good Boston Bibb salad and a very solid apple crumble. Bottom line: the menu is simple, the place is tiny (maybe seats 40 on stools?), the folks are friendly and the owners know what they are doing. Enjoy this spot.
Just Du It – this is the best burger around....my friends and i love this place....i have been several times and it never disapoints. i've also ordered take-out and its just as good at home. the mac n cheese is amazing too (how could it be bad, theres bacon in it). good beers on tap too.
One of Williamsburg's star restaurants spins off a burger bar on Bedford Avenue. – The Scene
This late-night offshoot of the busy DuMont pares down the menu and leaves behind the booths, as well as the sketchy service, to offer the restaurant's greatest comfort-food hits in a casual, slate-floored barroom. Friends from the neighborhood fill the seats along the wooden counters and around a single table for eight, all warmly lit by pendant spheres and amber candle holders.
The burger is righteously juicy with a subtle, caramelized char, its sweetness enhanced by a brioche bun, and balanced by sharp, smooth blue cheese (among other choices) and crisp fries. Some of the other dishes are less successful, such as mac and cheese that's more creamy than cheesy, and a dry mound of falafel molded into a veggie burger. Greens work best in the salad of supple bibb lettuce tossed with blue cheese and bacon lardons, as well as among the seasonal ingredients that appear in the rotating sandwich specials.
dumont and dumont burger have the best burgers ever. honestly the best ive had in the city
