Hip little Clinton corner bistro that always makes me think of fried cheese curds, probably because that's the last thing I ate there. They're delicious, and a deal during the twice-nightly happy hour (4-6pm and 10pm-close). Daily drink specials are fun, go on Thursday for the Whiskey Washout--$2 off all top shelf whiskey, bourbon & Scotch.

Fried cheese curds and a fine tasting old fashioned. Dimly lit, retro-comfortable atmosphere & attentive staff. A great place to start off or wind down your night. Quiet enough to carry on a conversation.

This dimly-lit, cozy bistro specializes in hearty Midwestern fare and decadent original cocktails.

I always like it here – I always have a good meal here and have visited no less than 15 times in the past two years. I like the menu and I love the Clinton cocktail. I always take guests here when they visit --- to rave reviews.

Never going back – Portland isn't known for service, but the service here was laughable. Even if there was a good reason to seat a table with the same number in the party ahead of us (and right in front of our face), they had the chance to make up for it by at least taking our order quickly. Oh now, we finally had to flag someone down after waiting 10 minutes. Once ordered, it came pretty fast, I'll grant them that. But all told it was a an hour 45 minute experience for us - I couldn't wait to leave. Food was way overvalued.

Eat the cheese curds – I used to go here all the time. The cheese curds, mac and cheese and rotating sides of cooked veggies are usually divine. Not that long ago, my husband and I went to Savoy on a Friday for dinner. I had the roast chicken, and when it came to the plate, I cut into it twice, and it was RAW on the inside to such an extent that it was about half pink. This all after our food took about 45 minutes to even come out, and my husband's burger was stone cold. They took the chicken off the bill, but were not very apologetic. In fact, the man who was acting as the host, was quite rude when I brought it to his attention. I will probaby go back, but probably just for cheese curds and cocktails. The bartenders here have always been fantastic. The atmosphere here is great, and the service is usually good (overall).

Cooked Just Right – We've eaten at Savoy probably six times and never been disappointed. The menu doesn't seem to vary a lot, but there are specials and most of the items we have ordered have been cooked "just right". I miss the way they used to prepare their roasted chicken (crispy, no sauce), but it is still succulent. I also love the fact that I can order whatever sides I want with my meal. The menu is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is comfortable and homey, but still hip.

I actually dealt with that guy above. – On the "used to be my favorite" review:

I got drinks for that guy while he was waiting (and twitching, it seems.)

Just clearing things up: that guy above...who said everything was horrible...is crazy. A loon. His friends actually came in to apologize for him afterward. He yelled at me, and everyone else in the restaurant, and we did actually tell him it was going to be thirty minutes, and the flip-out came at about 20 minutes.

There are many other errors in the review, but he was a good customer, and so was his girlfriend/wife. So I won't be rough. I don't know what happened, but a screw got loose. Just wanted to clarify.

We do our best to be very clear about everything, and actually love our customers. Come in. You'll enjoy it.

OK – They have good food but rather small portions, my side of asparagus had five pieces. Not family friendly .

Used to be a favorite...never going back! – For over the past year Savoy has been a favorite of mine as well as many of my friends. Great food with what used to be awesome service. That has now changed. Three visits there in the last few months have provided some of my worst experiences ever when dining out. A few tips - If you are unusually busy let your customers know. We usually don't mind if you are up front about a potentially lengthy wait time. Don't say the wait for a table is 10-20 minutes when you are holding reserved tables for people that aren't showing up and the wait is really 45min-1hr. Oh yeah, maybe check in on the customers while they are waiting and apologize for the delay. Don't come around after we have been waiting for our meal for over an hour to then let us know you are breaking in a new chef. Try doing this at the beginning of the evening and let us decide if we are willing to wait. Gee, maybe try offering a complimentary appetizer to hold us over. And above all...when the customer is making suggestions as to how better keep them advised of potential service delays don't let the last three words you say to them before leaving be "don't come back"(I thought that was a nice touch by the bartender). Because I can assure you that we and many others that I know will not. Hopefully Peter and his staff will read this and realize that Portland offers too many great eating establishments to let the service side of the business slide. Maybe it was a blessing. We ended up at Dot's where they serve a better burger anyway. Best of luck Savoy!

Good Food, Ok Service – When we first arrived there was no one greeting us and we didn't know if we should just sit down or wait. We ended up waiting almost a half an hour to get seated on a Wednesday night. My friends and I were able to order a bottle of wine while we waited. Once we were seated we ordered the Fried Cheese Curds which were amazing with a side of Marinara sauce for dipping. Overall the food was really good, but they lacked speed of service.

Just Right! – Everything was great last night at the Savoy. The service was pleasant and we sat in the lounge which had better lighting than the restaurant itself. The food was the best part. We started with some of the best garlic bread I've had. It was warm and filled with butter! Plus the flavor was divine! The salad had great blue cheese dressing and had nice little touches like grape halves and light yet super crunchy croutons. The mac 'n' cheese was great as usual there. Buttered crumbs on top and a spicy kick to the noodles and cheese. We both ordered the sirloin which was cooked to our preferences and had a horsradish sauce that brought out the meats flavor. The portions were just right. We left full but not busting at the seams and because we don't do cocktails we spent a mere $33 dollars for everything. Not too shabby for quality food done so darn well. We will be going back again soon!

Bad end to a great night. – I really like this restaurant. The food is great; it's got good atmosphere and I've had a really good time every time I've been there, regardless of the long wait. Tonight I went with a big group (having made a reservation weeks ago), and we honestly had an outstanding time; our server was fun, prompt, and eager to please. UNFORTUNATELY, at the end, things fell apart. After being there for 1 1/2 hour and spending over $300, one of the bussers asked us if we wanted anything else, because they "didn't want to keep other groups waiting" for a table. We were simply finishing our desserts and dessert wines, not just taking up space. We had every intention to leave once we finished our (expensive - but worth it) meal. Why not just let us finish up and go, without leaving that bitter taste in our mouths?
